The few times we've seen Kamigawa in more recent years (chapters in Agents of Artifice) suggest its largely unchanged.
WHich in addition to being dreadfully boring, make it harder for a return since they can't explain away unpopular bits with "changes occurring over a millenia of progress"
Awaken is a flavour homerun. Interesting that the text doesn't say "If you cast this for its Awaken cost" nd instead just names the cost.
I suspect there will be super wordy rares that will remove the reminder text. TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT TEXT Awaken 6: 5G
If they spelled that out on every card, it limits their ability to stuff like that, and they tend to be more willing to remove reminder text on rares.
Ingest is one of these keywords, where I'm not quite sure if we really needed a keyword for that,
Same for what I said above.
Awaken, Devoid and Ingest are all super straight forward. Keywording them makes it easy for a player to memorize what they do, and then just shorthand it every other time they see it.
just like landfall was and is.
Landfall is not and never was a keyword ability. It's. They have to spell it out each time because each card is completely different.
Anyone else bothered that they are dialing back protection, just to have the ghostfire mechanic....which kinda goes around protection anyway...I'm guessing it was too confusing.
They interact with any number of "colorless matters" things in standard right now.
It's overwhelmingly the most popular/famous setting in Magic. Not even close.
The mindspace each of the guilds occupy is ENORMOUS. And it's not like their aren't pre-existing characters in those guilds that sorely need exposure. (Feather, Paruns dead at time of CoG)
I'd prefer enemy colors from other settings. It's less obvious and helps flesh out colors in directions other than guilds.
I just don't think that based on evidence presented thus far, Kiora is embracing her blackness to save the world.
Perhaps IF zen gets saved, Kiora can encounter some other storyline that pushes her in this direction.
Hell, we dont even know if creative decided this was canon or not. Wouldn't be the first time. They were heading Nissa in this direction originally and pulled a 180.
Kicker was entirely too broad first time they used it.
It was all but necessary to restrict/retire to so they can continue to make mechanics without them being dismissed as being lesser/derivative of Kicker.
Writing was decent, but nothing too exciting as far as story progress. Random vampire comes around with some seeds, and then Nissa just stumbles upon leylines which I thought we basically already saw her feeling in her origin story. Also, Ashaya needs like a Groundswell and a Wild Instincts to beat any colorless Eldrazi, but I guess they could have been beating up on Emrakul's Hatchers or something. Maybe we will see more Eldrazi on the smaller end in the next block.
They did say that Nissa's original design in Origins was that her front face would make a 'baby' Ashaya.
I bet Ashaya will become bigger and stronger as Nissa becomes more comfortable with her relationship with it/Zendikar.
Again, what were people expecting from a panel that came out before Origins had even been released.
We got a cast of characters.
We got a bunch of plotlines being crossed.
We got a bunch of new art.
And they straight up told us that there's hints in the art.

And what Jay said.
When (not if) we go to Kaladesh, they can bring him back if they want to take Chandra's story in that direction.

Flavor win.
Ugin was unwilling to destroy the Eldrazi in case they were an unknown important part of the multiversal ecosystem.
It gives you reason to sit on unpopped fetches.
Do I fetch now to thin my deck, or fetch later to enable landfall.
Because not every color is supposed to have 2 mana 3/2s.

She's not going to be Sultai (yet) because she's not embracing her selfishness, she's trying to save her homeworld.
Tribal is a ridiculously popular thing for Wizards, that's why they keep coming back to it.

*laughtrack*
I doubt that's changed. Art featuring her and Sorin traveling was featured during the SDCC panel.
Even the vampires were in the SDCC art cooperating with everyone else.
Probably WUBRG v Jund because all of the colored Eldrazi spells are in those colors, unless they too branch into WUBGR in BFZ
Not at all.
The titans are all incredibly swingy cards.
If the Eldrazi deck has gotten to the point where the Titans are being successfully hard cast, the game is already over.
Games where your opponent scoops because there's obviously nothing they can do to win are boring and unfun.

There's a billion examples of angels being kind motherly caretakers. The instant Avacyn becomes one of those, she's boring and forgetable.
Anyone who actually expected them to infodump a bunch of new cards for Battle before Origins had even launched is delusional.
Get over yourselves.
