Instead of complaining about losing pod, what could we make out of the cards that we still have available? Granted Pod was a huge engine for us, but we still have a huge amount of powerful cards in the junk color combination. There has to be a competitive deck still sitting in there.
I'm pissed. Pod was one of my favorite cards in the format (and deck) and it takes a long time to learn and get used to it. It wasn't even overpowered really - it was strong, but not format dominating. You can go look at plenty of 4-0 lists or other tournament lists and sometimes isn't even in the top 8. Granted, its a tier 1 deck, but cmon. Every deck has their engine or combo piece to make it very powerful. I just sold all my standard stuff to start just only playing modern because I considered it a much better format - at this point I'm not even sure I can agree with that anymore.
Avacyn seems okay at best - the casting cost is one the of things that worry me the most. Her abilitys are also expensive too. I think if you are going to play her, you may want to try something like Ob Nixilis Unshackled instead - Flying, Trample, easier to cast, and has some decent abilitys. With that said though its still an expensive card and we have things like Wingmate Roc which are very good flying wise (also, easier to cast compared to Avacyn). I also agree on the Herald of Torment - not sure exactly why people are playing him. He's decent card, at best a 5cmc enchantment that beefs up and gives flying... but not sure if I'd want to play it compared to something like Brimaz.
I opened two boxes, pulled 4 from the first (2 wooded foothills, windswpeth heath and a Bloodstain mire) 2nd box had 3 (flooded strand, mire, and windswepth) They aren't super common but its also a big set.
Super informative post immapwner, the list looks great. I just tested the deck today but want to get into a tourney and get some real results soon. The synergy and overall solidness of the deck is amazing. After testing quite a few decks so far (namely bug) it felt so good coming to this with something much more consistent.
A quick question: Whats everyone's thoughts on using Ajani, Mentor of Heros in the deck? Both of his +1 abilitys are great, digging for threats or adding up counters on creatures already out on the field, like Siege Rhino that has trample. Obviously Sorin is amazing here too, but Ajani seems great as well.
Congrats Andrew/JadeTiger, you are my hero. I was planning on going to SCG Baltimore and running G/W Aggro, based on a similar list you had posted a while back with a few m15 changes (not much) after having alot of luck with the deck. Last minute plans failed though, and wasn't able to go. When I saw the decklists on SCG website I was so happy to see GW aggro near the top.
One question would be why the changes on Advent and Brimaz? Metacall?
I agree with LinkChmofsky. While Preeminent Captain is good, I don't think hes great. Hes a really interesting card, but not enough good soliders to support it. I've been playing alot of Selesyna Aggro and have found times where if I had dropped him on t3 I probably wouldn't much to trigger off from him next except maybe Brimaz or Loxodon Smiter, and thats provided I'd have it hand too. The synergy with Brimaz is also pretty bad.
I think I said this before but I don't understand why you'd play a Mystic in an aggro shell. All this does is keep you from consistently getting in early damage without good one drops. My highest costing card is Advent of the Wurm. Especially cutting 2 soldiers for the Mystic, I mean, why? And especially playing Ajani MoH, I'd rather play Caller of the Pride as he costs 2 less and has two great ability's to help build up a dude or simply get straight through to the opponent. Surprised to see neither of those cards in the decklist or even Brimaz. Call of the Conclave is interesting though, especially with Rootborn Defenses main boarded. Weird to see Mutavault too. Surprised to see this decklist in the top 8, congrats to him.
