Still haven't received decklists from everyone...please PM me with them tomorrow so we can get started!
Edit: also as of now there are only 5 people participating this month...I hate to extend signups anymore, but I am probably going to have to bump it another couple of days to see if anyone else will sign up.
Everyone, make sure you get your decklists in by Sunday!! Send to LanternIQTeam and post here with: "mtgsal username - cockatrice username - deck code"!
The bracket has been finalised, so please check the post and send in your decklists for verification if your name is in black, and let us know if we've missed you. Apologies for the lateness, we've had some issues with the staffing + the website change has muddled the inbox among other things. The due date for round 1 has been extended to the 15th.
Review:
Tinfoil Hat returns this month to take it down with his 'goyf-less Eternal Ruse brew. With two-for-ones to last the trip from here to valuetown and back, he defeated leh in the finals running Jund 2-0. An interesting thing to note is leh's inclusion of 2 Desecration Demon, a new innovation to ye olde classic Jund. 4thDimensionalBubble makes his second showing in the top 4, while TheTanStar makes a comeback to the IQs playing a signature Bant list.
The meta this month was fairly diverse, with an increase of not only control, but also aggro, with two people playing Zoo in our small IQ. Combo also made an appearance, but the most common archetype is still midrange, which seems to be the definition of Modern right now. It seems like people are starting to either go over or under these value-based midrange strategies - play for the lategame, or finish fast before the card advantage matters.
The graveyard reliance of the top two decks (Ruse and Jund) show us that grave-centric strategies are more than possible. Could we see Unburial Gifts soon? Goryo reanimator? Dredgevine? This month saw a couple of lockdown decks - a RW Leyline of Sanctity and Blood Moon brew to prey on a greedy tricolour heavy meta, while Tinfoil Hat showed us why blue is the best colour (only kidding) with constant countermagic and backed by solid utility creatures.
The Lantern IQs continue to demonstrate the broadness of Modern and its brewing capabilities. With Born of the Gods legal for the February IQ, it doesn't look like the meta is going to be set in stone any time soon!

The reigning champion of the first BPB returns to take down this IQ with his planeswalker A-team on UWR control!A lot more aggro and fast beats this time with a curious lack of BG rock, although the top 4 had two midrange decks. Will this last? Could combo decks make a comeback in an unsuspecting meta, or will the threat of midrange and disruption stifle this? Maybe, but with the abundance of relevant colourless sideboard hate cards it couldn’t hurt to be prepared.
I would plan for the long game or at least have a backup plan with control and midrange in mind. Graveyard hate looks solid all round to ruin synergies in many matchups and make unfair cards fair again. Tinfoil Hat rode a Leyline of Sanctity to victory in the finals, an underrated card which could potentially blank many of your opponent’s cards and create bad topdecks for your opponent. I would be wary of these cards in particular coming out from the board.
A remarkable meta this month, with twenty-one (21!) different decks - not a single double up. The diversity of the meta is hints at the open-endedness of Modern and the potential for brews or tweaks to tip the scissors-paper-rock balance of the format. There are a lot of dark depths waiting to be explored, especially with a new set on the horizon (canopy)!

I'm gonna call that the end of sign-ups and on with the tournament. Sorry to u-579 and Martin McFly but we're already cutting into tournament time by keeping the sign-ups open for these extra 2 days and you both didn't send in deck details or codes. Hopefully see you both next month.
For everyone else, the bracket is active, please contact your opponents with times and dates available to play and good luck.
I'll join, not sure on the deck, will post later tonight hopefully
Hey man, can you get list and code sent to us and post code and Cockatrice user here as soon as you can, you have a day to get it to us pal.
In the interest of getting more players involved, I am extending the deadline for one more day. I will post when brackets are finalized, until then hold tight as brackets will be shuffled with each new applicant.
Edit: also as of now there are only 5 people participating this month...I hate to extend signups anymore, but I am probably going to have to bump it another couple of days to see if anyone else will sign up.
Sorry for the inconvenience
Thanks!
Edit: We will be allowing Journey into Nyx and will post the Cockatrice patch as soon as the set is fully spoiled.
EDIT: note that the B&R changes will be in effect for the March IQ (that is, Deathrite Shaman is banned; Wild Nacatl and Bitterblossom are unbanned).
Which link are you talking about? the meta/wrapup link? cuz that one is working fine.
January marks the first double-double in Lantern IQ history! Let’s go over the month.
