Here's a thought: Charge us an annual fee. It seems that most here would rather stay on MTGSalvation, and if it means we need to pay a few dollars to keep it alive it seems like a better option than the forums dying.
Reminds me of when IMDB closed its boards. We need somewhere to go but there won't be an option that is good enough.
I say let sore losers be sore losers. They don't know how to lose and still have fun, so forget about them. Maybe they'll sleeve more basics next time.
But I know what you mean. It's not limited to EDH though. When I started playing standard I played a lot of budget decks... and when I beat tier 1 decks, those players got really pissed off.
Those players you played against were embarrassed about beating a deck they thought they could easily handle. To 'save face', they complained you didn't play fairly.
As for rules about 'don't play land destruction'... I call BS. You use whatever strategy is best for you. But... maybe you should check with players before playing to see if they don't want to play with certain things.
Death's Presence
Vastwood Hydra?
Increasing Savagery?
Definitely play Biomancer. +1/+1 counters are so good in this kind of deck, with tons of proliferating.
Champion of Lambholt is impressive at making dudes unblockable. I guess you have to have a limit to the number of non-infect dudes, but I'm just letting you know what I run in my Mimeoplasm (no infect). You can run Corpsejack Menace and Prime Speaker Zegana along with Bioshift for some explosive wins.
Putrefax is obviously good. Infect for 5 by casting him, then he dies and you Mimeoplasm him for the win.
I personally have just brought in hate for the decks I hate playing the most. The great thing about magic is that there are answers to everything.
I have to agree with this. M15 will be a Architect or Memory Adpet, and M16 will be a new Jace.
A few years later, and I find myself spending lots of money I shouldn't really be spending (as a student). But, I really enjoy this game. Like all hobbies, you have to moderate them. Diversify. I still play sports, go out, see friends... but once a week, I'm in a store playing magic. A few times a year, I spend a weekend at a tournament or pre-release. Once in a while I play on a weekday.
What worries me more is not how much I play magic, but how much I spend reading about Magic and building decks. It is a problem, since I am a hardcore Johnny who always wants to build something new. I think I enjoy building more than I enjoy playing (especially against jerks, as you say). For FNM, I have played 6 different decks since the start of Theros block. I spend a lot of money and a lot of time on this game.
But it will never be my only hobby. Most weeks nowadays, I only play at FNM. Most weeks, I don't even do any deckbuilding. But, when I have some free time, I do it.
If this game is more than a hobby, it is important you put constraints. I refuse to buy any card over 20$. I play two sports. I see friends and family every week. As long as I put constraints on my time investment with magic, I am fine. I do the same with other hobbies.
Do what you have to do. If you need to cut it completely, do it. But, one day, when your kids grow up, and you consider playing again - put constraints on your play. Only play once a week. Don't spend more than X dollars a month.
You can think of it as an addiction too. Any program designed to help with computer addiction or gambling addiction should apply.
That sounds more in line with Pharika, as regeneration is primarily in green and black. Also, Pharika seems to be a healer (Pharika's Cure, Pharika's Mender)
On Sunday, there is the St-Patrick's Day Parade. I think it is more geared towards kids, but I dunno.... there might be a lot of alcohol involved.
The nightclubs and bars are always great.
The Montreal Canadiens are in town Saturday night... though if you are participating in the GP, you won't be able to make it. In any case, if you like hockey, there is no better city in the world to watch it. Even in a bar.
Montreal has lots of concerts, plays, comedians and festivals. Depending on your interests, there should be no lack of things to do. Definitely walk around the Old Port (very close to the GP venue).
But, with Yeva, I think it becomes pretty good in mono-green. Just make sure you have enough card draw to benefit from it.
It would also be good with Nylea, God of the Hunt. You can pump twice as much, or pump and cast something.
I am just curious as to what other Karador players prefer in their decks. Maybe some of you want all three. Maybe some of you have reasons to cut one or another. It occurs to me that against Voltron, I would prefer Grave Pact to Martyr's Bond, since Martyr's Bond allows them to sac artifacts instead of creatures if a Solemn Simulacrum dies.
Thoughts?
I really like the inclusion of Darien, King of Kjeldor.
Nightshade Peddler combos well with it (as well as with Polukranos, World Eater and Ulvenwald Tracker).
