This isn't fair. Unlike some of his other designs the deus ex abilities usually work. Just not the way Reap thinks or wants them to. They're also usually massivly overpowered as add on effect and would nessecitate being their own 3 mana spell.Quote from WizardMN »It is important to note that none of Reap's Deus Ex Machina abilities actually work within the rules and should just be ignored.

Highroller posted a message on Coronavirus (COVID-19): Will Social Distancing Be Permanent?Card Slinger J: I’m going to try to explain this so you get it.Posted in: Talk and Entertainment
We have a pandemic. A LITERAL PLAGUE is going on. It’s killed millions of people and continues to rage on.
So sensible people have seen this and realized that we can’t just live out our lives the way we used to when there’s a highly infectious, deadly disease running rampant, because that would be irresponsible and kill a ton of people. What we need to do is take necessary precautions to combat the spread of Covid-19. Thus, we have public health and safety measures.
Now, let’s be very clear: no one particularly likes these safety measures. But the prudent among us understand that these measures are necessary to get the virus under control, and if we do that, we can then safely go back to our regular lives. These people recognize that public safety measures are the solution to the problem. Adhering to them is the path to getting to a point in which we no longer have to.
We have seen it demonstrated across multiple countries that adherence to safety protocols such as social distancing, testing, masking, and vaccination help to get the virus under control and facilitate a return to relative normalcy. The coronavirus is a problem, but it’s a problem with a known solution.
The issue has been the significant percentage of people who refuse to adhere to safety protocols, either out of ignorance of the facts surrounding the threat of the coronavirus and the efficacy of public safety measures, or out of not caring whether or not people die as long as a person is not inconvenienced by them. These people have actively undermined attempts to control the virus in many countries - including the United States, in which hundreds of thousands of otherwise preventable deaths have occurred.
And this is what makes the Covid-19 situation such a uniquely infuriating one: there is absolutely no reason for the problem to have ever gotten this bad, and wouldn’t have had people acted sensibly by adhering to public safety precautions. Yet many consistently did not, which has subverted the responsible majority at every turn.
-
We originally attempted a lockdown to try to get the virus under control. This would have worked, as evidenced by countries who did so successfully, but while it did get the numbers down, it failed to do enough because not enough people locked down.
We eventually opened the country back up, and then prescribed a regimen of social distancing and rigorous testing for the virus. This would have worked, as evidenced by countries who did so successfully, but while it did get the numbers down, it failed to do enough because not enough people got tested nor adhered to social distancing protocols, nor quarantined when they got it.
Amazingly, we ended up getting a vaccine for Covid that was over 90% effective against the major strain in record time, and the US accumulated enough of the vaccine to be able to vaccinate every American. The plan was to get enough people vaccinated to get the numbers for Covid down. This would have worked, as evidenced by countries who did so successfully, but while it did get the numbers down, it failed to do enough because not enough people got vaccinated.
Once again, public health measures would have not only combated the coronavirus’ spread, thus saving hundreds of thousands of lives, but would have also reduced the numbers to the point that we would have been able to relax said public health measures, thereby allowing us to live more freely.
Yet, at every turn, America seen vociferous opposition to health measures that would have protected lives and allowed us a return to relative normalcy. And a major contributing factor to this has been the sheer volume of speakers on the internet spreading misinformation and maligning both scientists and healthcare workers, and the safety measures they have recommended. We’re in the mess we’re in because of these people.
So that’s why it’s so maddening to see you post something like this:
Quote from Card Slinger J »I'm innocent.
No, you’re not. You’re actively spreading misinformation about Covid-19, and you’re also calling for an end to masking for children - a safety measure that has saved countless lives, and the removal of which would kill countless numbers of children and leave still more immunocompromised for the rest of their lives - for ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD REASON AT ALL.
You’re part of the problem!
That’s why it’s so maddening to see you post something like this:
I'd much prefer If we all work together as one
Great, SO GET ON BOARD THEN! Go do your part! You're the one who isn't doing what he's supposed to be doing! It’s people like you who are the holdouts that are subverting the work that the responsible people are doing.
The good news is you don’t have to be an obstacle. You can change.
Are you tired of this pandemic? Do you want to get back to regular life and not have to wear masks? Cool. SO DO WE. The difference is we understand that it’s not safe to do so right this moment and it will take some work to get there.
You want to help? First of all, get vaccinated. Second, socially distance, and wear a mask when unable to remain 6 feet apart from someone in a public setting. Third, keep an eye on your health, and get tested if you feel symptoms of Covid-19. If the test is positive, adhere to proper quarantining protocols until you are no longer infectious.
And fourth, encourage this behavior in others. Encourage people to get vaccinated, to wear masks, and to get tested. Rather than copy/pasting articles from anti-science radicals, or making posts about promoting measures that would cause countless children to die, instead do the opposite:
Share articles from experts in the field of virology and from reputable medical professionals.
Actively promote public health measures and share data about their demonstrated efficacy.
Try to promote plans that don’t involve countless children dying horrible deaths for no good reason.
These small actions can produce a lot of positive change, and can encourage others to take proactive steps to do so as well.

Would you rather the children die?Quote from Card Slinger J »There's something among psychology nowadays known as COVID Anxiety Syndrome (CAS) where more children than ever have anxiety, depression, with suicide rates going up because of this global pandemic. What are we doing to the mental health of our children? There's now children drawing self-portraits of themselves with their face masks on because they've associated themselves with how they look 24/7 with face masks on. Sad part is that these children don't really know what it's really like to see their actual faces. Because of this we as a society are creating HUGE mental disorders down the line which is already happening right now and it's up to parents to protect the mental health of their children.
Children have become too afraid to play with each other or be brave enough to speak without worrying about infecting other people without a face mask on. As an end result these children are losing their social skills as they're not communicating and they're not learning how to communicate in-person because of the fear around us and we got to remind ourselves that fear is the greatest thief of our joy, happiness, and serenity. We have to learn to choose love over everything even though that might sound a little bit cliche but it's the truth. We're learning the harsh lesson of taking our freedoms for granted because this is all we have. A lot of people mock the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution but there's a reason why it's number one.
Because that is what we're wearing the masks for. Because otherwise children will die. Because, and again, I have no idea how you continue to not understand this: WE HAVE A PLAGUE GOING ON.
We're not making children wear masks for *****s and giggles, we're doing it because there's a plague going on. One which has killed over 5 million people in less than 2 years.
So I ask again, would you rather the children die?
Because if you were to say to me, "Yes, I would rather millions more die from a virus than to have to go through the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask," then at least you would be demonstrating self-awareness and honesty.
But you do not, DO NOT ever, ever, EVER get to post anti-science, anti-vaxxer, anti-medicine nonsense on the internet and then close it by saying you're choosing love.
You are perpetuating a problem that millions have died from, that people have given their lives to combat, that people are risking their lives now to stop, that people are laboring tirelessly to treat, that people are working around the clock to try to educate people that we can get this problem under control. How dare you say that you're choosing love by actively trying to undermine their efforts and their sacrifices? How dare you say you are choosing love by openly advocating for the death of innocent children? You might as well have just pissed on five million graves. -

Because doing a year of remote learning is not going to be anywhere near as debilitating as being immuno-compromised, to say nothing of dying from covid.

Dying from covid is a bigger issue than suffering mental health difficulties. And if you want to address mental health how about increasing the minimum wage, providing universal healthcare (including, you know, support for mental health services), extending child tax credits. That sort of thing. That will help mental health. Should decrease crime as well. And, you know, lift millions out of poverty too, if you go for that sort of thing. -

No, here's your problem: you didn't "cite info." There was absolutely no information in that entire post. It was baseless opinion, statements that were obviously counter-factual at the time. There was no information, no data, nothing.Quote from Card Slinger J »I'm not defending my position on this when I was being manipulated by the YouTuber whose info I cited.
And here you are doing the same thing. You may have moved on from that person, but you've clearly gone from one anti-science social media person to another, because the statements you are making are still anti-science, still counter-factual, and still devoid of data.
Yes. Vaccines, masking, and social distancing. They work. The data proves it. When they're actually implemented, they work. What matters now is that we have more data on how to get this pandemic under control
There clearly was. Social distancing saved lives.as opposed to 1 1/2 years ago when there was no need to completely paralyze the foundations of our society in the name of safety.
It's not in a state of prolonged gridlock. We closed nonessential businesses because it was a necessary measure to get the virus under control. We did remote distance learning because it was a necessary measure to keep children safe. Both schools and businesses have since reopened.Travel bans I can get behind but the global economy and public education in a state of prolonged gridlock?
Again, how are you still maintaining this stance after 1 1/2 years? We've seen what happens when the virus numbers drop: things reopen. We close them as a matter of public safety. We reopen them when the virus numbers drop below a certain point. The answer is no, we're not in perpetual lockdown, as demonstrated by us not being in lockdown anymore.
What are you talking about? Virtually no one is quitting their job over the vaccine mandates. The number is estimated at 1% of all workers in the US. 1%.How are we supposed to keep up with millions of people quitting their jobs over vaccine / mask mandates?
Who do you think is traumatizing the children more: the people who are adhering to public safety advice to benefit society in the face of a widespread global pandemic, or the people who refuse to listen to science and reason and pursue courses of action that would directly lead to the pandemic continuing and, in turn, causing greater threat and harm to said children? What are we doing to the mental health of our children and their children as they get older? What kind of example are we setting for them?
Because doing a year of remote learning is not going to be anywhere near as debilitating as being immuno-compromised, to say nothing of dying from covid.
Really does feel like you are, dude, especially since those measures that you're railing against saved countless lives, and because you're spreading the very misinformation that no doubt cost many people their lives. No I'm not trying to undermine how many people have died from this virus
Once again, not actually happening, it's close to like 1% if that.especially since most of the healthcare workers and researchers who should be providing as much info about the virus to the public as possible are ALL unemployed either because either they chose not to abide by the government mandates
Which was preventable, and would have been prevented had people distanced, adhered to mask policy, and gotten vaccinated.or that they couldn't keep up with hospitals exceeding their max capacity of COVID-19 patients on a daily basis.
Wait, "thankfully?" Why are you spreading anti-vaccination nonsense like eating fruits and vegetables to combat covid if you're pro-vaccine?Thankfully it's not as bad now that over 70% of all American citizens are fully vaccinated with only 30% that didn't get vaccinated
Second, we are definitely not at 70% vaccination. Where are you getting your data? We're at about 60%. The goal is over 80%. And one of the biggest problems towards getting there has been rampant misinformation about healthcare measures such as the vaccine against Covid. Which you are participating in. If you want more people to get vaccinated, you should aspire to do your part by seeking to listen to the very experts you are deriding and actually propagating things grounded in fact, rather than misinformation.
Ok, Dr. Oz is a media personality, sure. Dr. Fauci, on the other hand, is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President. There is absolutely no comparison between the two. What I was referring to in regards to "the experts" are medical professionals within Mainstream Media like Dr. Fauci, Dr. Oz, etc.
And here we are with the conspiracy theories.who are bought and paid for by Big Pharma to keep people in fear and anxiety instead of telling them the truth about how to handle COVID-19 in a way that's kind, compassionate, and caring
Again, specifics. What, SPECIFICALLY, about what Fauci has said do you take objection to?
Is it that he advised people to socially distance, wear masks, and get vaccinated - the measures that have been proven to work to combat covid?
What do you actually have about Fauci that's actually objectionable?
Which is really astounding coming from someone who admits himself he propagated conspiracy theories, and also is STILL DOING SO.What this is teaching us is for us to do our own research instead of relying on those who don't know the answers and are just there to keep the fearmongering
... How, exactly? By making a vaccine to the pandemic? The one you admit is a good thing?going which is exactly what Big Pharma is doing to extract as much money as possible by prolonging the pandemic as long as possible.
Except you're still propagating anti-science nonsense. You've just switched from one source of misinformation to another.I've already said that I was being manipulated by a YouTuber at the time in which I cited the info from not realizing the full context of who the individual was in regards to the bad reputation he had but lesson learned. Nobody is perfect we all make mistakes from time to time even myself. Move on.
Are you agreeing with me that the sources of misinformation are the ones who are really the ones spreading anxiety and fear, or are you agreeing with the post that has been explicitly proven to be nonsense, I'm confused.I guess that's one way to put it bluntly.
I'm sorry to hear that.My friends' husband who recently died from COVID-19
Well, it's not a booster for Omicron. It's a booster. There's still research ongoing as to whether the vaccine/booster are effective against Omicron.was fully vaccinated with the first two doses of Moderna but didn't receive a booster for Omicron,
May I ask you something?however what I think happened was that he had an underlying condition that was triggered from when he got the virus that made it hard for the vaccine to control. Like I said earlier, there's not enough data and research studies on how COVID-19 triggers underlying and pre-existing conditions that manages to take someone's life with the most common case among COVID-19 patients being Myocarditis which is an inflammation of the heart muscle that can also affect your respiratory system.
My friend and her daughter also managed to get COVID-19 while fully vaccinated with the first two doses of Pfizer except the cases were only mild where my friend and her daughter were recently released from quarantine with no signs of being able to infect other people. She told me that she temporarily lost her sense of taste and smell which is a common symptom among COVID-19 patients and thankfully she got her senses back. I have another friend at work whose husband got Myocarditis from getting vaccinated so hopefully he's doing better now. First time I got vaccinated I had muscle aches and body fatigue but that was really it.
What is your actual argument, here, exactly?
Like, I'm genuinely trying to figure this out. What is even your stance at this point?
You accuse doctors and politicians who are advocating things like masks and vaccines as being wrong and bad and fearmongering, which shows you are clearly listening to anti-science, anti-vaccination people on the internet, and yet, you say that vaccines are good and not only do you concede that covid is not a hoax, but you personally know people who have gotten it.
So I don't understand your position at all. -

ThyLordQ posted a message on Product Fatigue by the NumbersSo, around this time last year, an argument occurred in the Rumor Mill discussing product fatigue, and the growth in product amounts over the last few years. I was curious, and had some free time, so I made an extensive list of the products that had been released since 2015. Any time a product had it's own individual name, or was the only way to get a certain card, I added it to the list.Posted in: Magic General
Well, I got curious what things were like this year, especially since we know most if not all the products coming out till January, and decided to do some updating.
Here is a product list, separated by year and individual component. Booster Pack Boxes are listed separate from booster packs when a promotional card or pack was attached to its purchase (barring Unstable and Iconic Masters, due to the Treasure Chest packs being primarily Ixalan, with the offer eventually extended to those two later.)
Also excluded: Promotional cards from tournaments (including pre-releases), and the Big Box Repackage promotional cards.

So in total: 2015 had 54 products, 2016 had 52 products, 2017 had 42 products, 2018 had 65 products, 2019 had 87 products, 2020 had 95 products, 2021 had 137 products.
If you coalesce anything that could be coalesced (combine sample decks, combine theme boosters, Secret Lair bundles, etc.) the numbers become: 50 (2015), 48 (2016), 38 (2017), 53 (2018), 61 (2019), 70 (2020), 79 (2021).
And with what we know of 2022, it doesn't look like things are slowing down.
Assuming that the patterns hold, we're looking at
1-2. Innistrad Double Feature Product (Packs and Box for promotion)
3. Commander Collection Black
4-16. Kamigawa Neon Dynasty product (assuming 1 welcome deck, 5 theme boosters, 2 Commander decks)
17-20. Challenger Decks 2022
21-36. Streets of New Capenna product (assuming 1 welcome deck, 5 theme boosters, 5 Commander decks)
37-38. Unfinity product
39-46. Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate product (assuming set booster, collector booster, bundle, and 2 Commander decks)
47-59. Dominaria United product (assuming 1 welcome deck, 5 theme boosters, 2 Commander decks)
60-61. Double Masters 2022 (assuming just packs and box for promotion)
62-74. The Brothers War product (assuming 1 welcome deck, 5 theme boosters, 2 Commander decks)
75. Jumpstart 2022
76-79. Warhammer 40k Commander Decks
And there are so many fiddly little products and Secret Lairs that will no doubt go in there, too. Plus, these are using the lowball numbers! It's possible that Unfinity, Jumpstart 2022, and Double Masters 2022 will have more than the listed product.
I personally found that putting all this to words and numbers helped make sense of why it feels like Kaldheim is an ancient set despite coming out this year (beyond the fact that 2021 dragged on forever), as well as put into terms why my product fatigue is getting so bad. If it happens that all of these products are up your alley, great! But for me, MtG is getting to be too much.
Still, I enjoyed putting this together, so maybe this time next year, I'll update it again with 2022's full product list.
So, what do y'all think of the amount and kinds of product WotC has been releasing lately?

Rosy Dumplings posted a message on Trinity PhalanxPosted in: Custom Card CreationQuote from 5colors »Quote from ReapThaWhirlwind »It's well understood by me that the Wizards team isn't building a product with the company in mind, or the consumer in mind, but their own private interests and business concerns. I well long proved this back on the official Wizards forums.
And yet they have better designed cards than you.
This.
What people think is fun/exciting is fun/exciting. You thinking that a couple of “objective” measures that you cannot fully articulate in mathematical terms for other people to accurately judge, which you started taking in the Pokémon TCG (EX: domain influence) are the be-all end-all measures of “fun” for a card game, superior to the vast market research and testing that goes into MTG.
Do you hear how deluded that sounds?
You: “I have a mechanic that makes the game better and more fun.”
Poster 1: “I don’t think that is fun”
Poster 2: “I don’t think that is fun”
Posters 3-7: “I don’t think that is fun!”
You: “All of you are incorrect. I can prove mathematically that this is superior so all of you are having fun. You are wrong about not having fun.”
Other Posters: “what about people who like the game how it is?”
You: “The people who play the game right now are wrong. The people who design the game are wrong. I am objectively right. If you are not having fun with my mechanics, you (the people currently playing MTG) are not the right people to be playing MTG”.

MrMoustacheMM posted a message on MTG Pre-Release Kit Purchase Required QR Code Scan?Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from Card Slinger J »So now If you're wanting to enter an Officially Sanctioned Paper Magic Tournament like a Pre-Release, Grand Prix (which is apparently coming back according to the Magic Historian on YouTube), or Standard Tournament then a smartphone device is mandatory to use the Companion mobile app.
No it isn't mandatory. From here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-companion-updates/companion-launch-2020-07-15
Note: Companion is an awesome way to make accessing tournaments faster, easier, and more accessible. However, if mobile apps aren't your thing, that's okay! You never have to use Companion to play Magic at your favorite store or event; it's simply a value-added experience that works on top of the organized play experience you're already familiar with.
Get your facts straight before you make unfounded claims and please stop spreading these silly conspiracy theories. -

Xcric posted a message on MTG Pre-Release Kit Purchase Required QR Code Scan?Posted in: Magic GeneralQuote from Card Slinger J »I've actually talked to one of the managers at my LGS In-Person and she told me that the store isn't following any directive that would be discriminatory toward the players and customers within our local community. She understands that not everyone owns a smartphone for downloading free mobile apps regardless of whether or not If they're Paper Magic players. Besides, Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro couldn't really force this on any LGS regardless of how big they are as a corporate conglomerate but it's times like these that makes me feel grateful for sticking to the Casual side of Paper Magic more than Competitive with everything that's been happening in the last 18+ months up to this point. The company is so out of touch with the Competitive side of Paper Magic that all they're really doing is pushing more power creep to sell more new cards to EDH / Commander players.
Haven't been keeping up too much with Arena and Standard bans as of late especially Modern but it's not as bad as it was in previous years. At least this situation I've been through will make me think twice before purchasing another Pre-Release Kit without having to attend an event If this is the way Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro wants this to be. Since the Companion mobile app isn't what's keeping Paper Magic players at my LGS from playing in Standard events then it's most likely due to other factors with players having to work more hours due to staff shortages with more Americans quitting their jobs as of late. We did have a turnout of over 30 players in our last In-Person Pre-Release Event for Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. Other than that, Organized Play isn't really what it once was Pre-COVID as you can already tell. Were not quite at the finish line just yet but we're getting really close.
huh? i think this is making an issue where none exists for the sake of making an issue.
i walked in, bought a kit by paying with money, and that was it. transaction done. i got my kit, the store got its money. everyone else did the same. no scanning of anything required by anyone.
like, what qr code are you even talking about? are you sure you aren't mistakenly thinking of the key to unlock the 6 free boosters on arena? your story also doesn't seem to add up since even the clerks seem to have been confused by what you were asking and didn't issue you a refund.
there is no required qr code scanning for purchase. you get a prerelease kit of boosters in exchange for money. no extra steps. same as always.

FunkyDragon posted a message on Commander Banned and unbanned announcemntPosted in: The Rumor Mill
Careful, your bias is showing. How would you even attempt to backup a statement like this? How do you measure how much one group cares over how much another does?Quote from Cranky »The folks at WotC really do care, much more than the RC does at least, they just don't always hit the mark.
The answer is "you can't" - this is simply a partisan statement dismissing the party you dislike and favoring the party you do. I mean, you're even willing to openly excuse WOTC with "they just don't always hit the mark," yet in the same breath you extend no such mercy toward the RC.
Personally, I think there are people on both sides who care, but if I had to ask which one cares more, who does the evidence support? There are two choices:
- The RC, who runs the format for no pay or financial incentive, who subjects themselves to online abuse from every keyboard warrior willing to make derogatory statements they would be too scared to say in person, and who is constantly second-guessed and insulted despite managing to run the format from an unknown entity all the way to the most popular format in the game?
- WOTC, who despite the best of intentions, has to answer to a corporation who has repeatedly placed short-term profit over the interest of the game and the players, who constantly makes mistakes and bad judgements leading to record number of bans for cards being played in the format they were designed for, and who only jumped fully on the Commander train after the popularity of the first precons caught them off guard and showed them could literally print more money by tapping into something built up by others.
These are intentionally biased representations, by the way, to make a point. Everything I just said has an element of truth, but it is slanted to make one side look better and the other look worse. And yet you can't honestly say the misrepresentations are factually false.
So, taking the partisan blinders off, who cares more? Nobody can answer that.
The real question is "who would manage it better?" - and that is still a matter of opinion. I look at the track record for the past 12+ years I've been playing EDH/Commander, and I have to side with the RC, as they have made less mistakes than WOTC in that time. I look at failed formats like Brawl, which was merely an attempt to repackage Commander but sell more cards by forcing rotation, and again, I have to side with the RC. I look at the number of broken promises from each side, and again, I have to side with the RC. And finally, I have to ask "If WOTC would be better, then why is Commander healthier than any format they manage?" - and I have to side with the RC. Of course, that's just me and my bias. But I'm not the only one who feels that way.
I think the bigger fear is backlash from a very large and vocal majority. Commander is their cash cow right now. Not only are they pumping out record number of products directly marketed for it, but they have had to rethink how they design normal sets and legendaries in particular. Not a single black-border product gets released without consideration for Commander these days. If they took over, it might be fine. Or it might blow up in their face. The fable of the goose that lays the golden eggs comes to mind - in the owner's haste to access more than a steady stream of golden eggs, they cut the bird open to find ...nothing at all. They sacrificed a reliable long-term revenue stream in a short-sighted greedy maneuver that lost them everything. And that should terrify WOTC. Any move to take over, which I don't doubt will eventually happen, needs to be handled delicately. Yes, there will be backlash no matter what, but if they handle it wrong, and especially if they screw up shortly after taking control, it won't just be a small minority.Quote from Cranky »They dearly want to take over the format, but they're petrified that there will be an enormous backlash from a small but vocal section of the playerbase.
Yep, happens in Standard all the time. if it isn't record number of banning of cards they just bought, it also happens on rotation, when they find that their deck no longer functions. In fact, those who don't quit sometimes migrate to an eternal format like Commander because they want their cards to remain viable after they bought them. And considering commander band less than a quarter of a percent of the cards available for it, it is rare when a banning makes a deck nonviable. Even banning Golos won't invalidate that many decks. All of the mono-color Golos decks that just wanted ramp in the command zone can pick a commander in their color that actually fits their theme. All of the goodstuff Golos decks can pick a different goodstuff commander, like Kenrith, Jodah, or Esika; it may require a few other cards to balance things out, but it's not the end of the world. And all of the decks truly built around Golos, well, it sucks, but they do have 99 still viable cards and can either rebuild or build something new. Decks changing and rotating isn't exclusive to Commander, and if anything, Commander is the most stable format with the least amount of decks being knocked out, all the while with the largest influx of new cards and new deck strategies.Quote from TheOnlyOne652089 »If you value the financial commitment of people that low (or not at all) you would be surprised how many people get such a hit that they quit the game.
Hard disagree. For a casual format, that's basically every card that runs the risk of appearing to be casual but creating games that aren't. The problem is that the "goal to have fun" is nebulous and cannot be defined. What you find fun, other may hate. One person may think it's hilarious to lock out his opponents from playing spells while he himself lacks a wincon. But his three opponents may think it's fun to be able to play their decks. Another person may think it's fun to include over 20 tutors and always tutor the same three cards, while his opponents may think the fun of 100 card singleton is to play different games each time.Quote from TheOnlyOne652089 »Banning cards should be for MISTAKES that never should exist in a format and for a CASUAL format thats basically never the case, as the people in question have the goal to have fun, not necessarily win a game.
Of course, a tiny banlist that bans less than a quarter of a percent of the available cards isn't going to police everyone's fun. No banlist can, nor should it attempt to. But mistakes happen, even in casual, that can skew how the game is played.
Again, some people don't care how their opponents feel. They aren't looking for the same gameplay and will prioritize winning over delivering a game in which everyone can have fun. And a salty card list evaluating 20,000+ cards is a lot harder to keep up on and reference than a clear banlist that you can lookup and see what cannot be played, regardless of your feeling for the card.Quote from TheOnlyOne652089 »That said, replace the banned list with a salt-score for a bunch of cards and people can browse that list if they want to check their deck against what other people might consider un-fun cards ... then they choose to replace them, or not, its up to them....If a card has a massive salt score chances are that its even unfun if people try to not abuse it in a combo or just accidentally play them, as the effect is oppressive for a game and does so regularly....So it comes down to not having a committee for the banned list, and instead use a properly named "Salty-Card list" that people can still use, but might think about before or after they are aware of it.
Yes, the chaos of mob rule and every man for himself sounds so much better than a clear and succinct list of what cannot be run in your deck. It's especially good when you show up to a new LGS and don't know anyone or their preferred playstyle or what may or may not be acceptable in their meta. Granted, this last point is a problem either way, but at least a banlist that can be read in a couple minutes starts everyone off with some small measure of common ground, while the salty list has no starting standard at all.Quote from TheOnlyOne652089 »You can collect these datas with sites like edhrec , which is much much better than a selected few that make the decision for everyone else. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

That's not to say they won't do what you suggest. But this isn't really evidence in support of that as the explanation is a bit simpler.

This forum requires card tags. [c]Yarok, the Desecrated[/c] = Yarok, the Desecrated. And "Transform" cards are ones that Transform. IE, say the word Transform on them. Like Huntmaster of the Fells. It sounds like you are not asking about Transform cards. You are just asking about cards that copy things.
In regards to Clone and Mirrormade: they do not have inherent triggers so they do not, by themselves, interact with Yarok. They have replacement effects that apply as they enter the battlefield. That being said, if they copy anything with an Enter the Battlefield trigger, it will be just like a "normal" one of those permanents enter and you will get double the triggers. Say your Clone copies a Wall of Omens. You will get two Wall triggers because it enters as a Wall and Yarok makes it trigger an extra time.

Maybe your LGS *is* mandating that but the experience thus far says that they are the outlier and not following any sort of directive from Wizards to do that.

Worth noting, it doesn't work with Gravecrawler though. Since Gravecrawler is cast, it never enters from the graveyard; it enters from the stack. Taking away that one card obviously means nothing since it combos with about a billion other things. Even without hexproof, it just looks broken.

In any case, my comment was simply that the previous poster's request has already been granted. And if they think that adding in someone like Josh is going to eliminate these bans, that is obviously a poor expectation. No one person is ever going to drive decisions which means that adding specific people isn't going to prevent changes like this either (which is obviously proven if Josh couldn't stop this ban). 15 people working together means some one is going to be on the losing side of an argument. It sounds like it was at least Josh this time around.

Ignoring the fact that plenty of people already think the Wizards' banlists are a mess, even with their data, this comment has already happened. They *did* expand things and have somewhere around 11 other people on their Commander Advisory Group. With Josh from the Command Zone already being one of them. And they expanded it once after creating it initially. And that group helped achieve the Flash ban and likely weighed in on these two changes as well.
Also, 25% of the current RC (the 4 people you mentioned) does work for Wizards and another is the main Policy "guy" for whenever the IPG is updated. Maybe not as many as you would like, but they already have a Wizards employee on their roster. I don't think adding more people changes their philosophy.

Otherwise, the rest of your comment is correct.

The only ways for this to do anything is to target something of yours with Hexproof with Volrath or turn Volrath into an illegal target by making him a different color or permanent type (if you copy an animated land for example to turn him into a noncreature land). But just changing what he looks like doesn't do enough to "fizzle" anything. So, in your first scenario, Chaos Warp shuffles him in even if he looks like a Triskelion meaning the Path to Exile isn't necessary. And the second scenario will still have Warp shuffle him in.
I am also not sure what your comment about Scion was meant to convey but either there is a misunderstanding with that ability as well or something different is happening.

Your entire post is just a rant with basically no cohesion. Your point is Amazon is ruining LGS's (which isn't totally untrue) but you spent 5 paragraphs just repeating that over and over. You offered nothing beyond that though and even contradicted yourself. First, Rudy's (from somewhere) business model is no longer viable in the first paragraph and then all of a sudden in the second he will be just fine. If you are going to type this ***** out, at least be consistent with your fearmongering.
This isn't new (and I am positive, because of your penchant and overall desire to be chicken little, that you have brought this up before) so what is the purpose of this post? The cynic in me says that you don't give two *****s about any of this. You are just trying to stir up drama because instead of continuing your existing thread, you made a new one. And this one has far less content than your previous one. Though, to be fair, your previous one had literally 0 content from you as it was just a video (and the one before that was too) and that was still better than the drivel you have come up with here.
I don't really get your end game? Is this simply going to be a monthly post by Card Slinger J where nothing of value is offered and instead it just acts as a (very) thinly veiled advertisement for Rudy's Channel and Patreon? At least the previous threads were a bit more subtle with it where you simply linked to a video but here you not only said "Rudy from Alpha Investments" 4 times (seriously, you could have just said Rudy after that) indicating you wanted to hammer home that he has a business, but you also linked to his Patreon just in case. And, of course, your signature includes a meaningless quote from him (along with some other BS). You seem to be dead set on doing whatever you can to grow Rudy's viewer base for some reason and I am guessing your previous attempts weren't all that successful so you had to be a bit more brazen about it now. I noticed that you never mention any other Youtubers trying to make a living off this game. Only Rudy gets your attention.....
I will admit that there are a lot of things wrong with what is going on with Magic from LGS's being overlooked in certain cases (they do get special Secret Lairs so while not enough for long term, Wizards is trying to engage with them), to the way Arena functions in terms of Wildcards and Arena Only cards, especially with sets like Historic Jumpstart making keeping up nearly impossible, to their apparent disinterest in a Pro Tour, to their overwhelming desire to control the secondary market without admitting there is one with Secret Lairs and "strategic" reprints. Hasbro/Wizards is not infallible but to see someone who focuses entirely on the bad about what is going on in the Magic community is tiresome. Sure, things deserve to be discussed, but basically every thread you have ever created is about how the world is falling apart with Magic. Not simply that something is wrong; that the very existence of Magic is at stake. Which is asinine.
