It's cool to see this deck having a little success and some activity in this thread. I haven't tried the banishing knack version but it looks like a great idea. One small thing I feel strongly about with this deck that I almost never see is playing assault // battery in the sideboard. It's so nice against a number of problem creatures in the format. I think fiery justice, at two more mana, is much worse and would always play the split card over it in the old (gitaxian probe) version of this deck.
Is siding out Eidolon vs affinity a correct line of play? I feel it wins me the game if I can cast it on turn 2. Seeing as they don't have that much removal. It happened to me yesterday.
[assuming the version w/o Nacatl/AK]
I've been keeping 2-4 in on the play and all out on the draw. I think out on the draw is definitely correct, but in on the play is debatable. I bring in 6 cards (3 path, 3 artifact hate/searing blood), the more sb cards you have, the more Eidolon looks worse than replacement level. The other cut in this matchup is Boros Charm imo, as I want to be low to the ground, sometimes white mana is tough, and the other two mana cards are great (you could convince me that Skullcrack is worse, but I like having additional action against Vault Skirge).

What do you side in and out against Eldrazi Tron and Grixis DS?
Against E Tron: Side out 4x Eidelon and 4x Searing Blaze, bring in 3x Path + 2x Deflecting Palm + 3x Destructive Revelry
Against Grixis DS I don't have much experience as I've never played against it, but I would imagine you cut 4x Skullcrack and bring in 2xPath + 2x Deflecting Palm. Probably cut Eidelon on the draw and bring in Destructive rev.
Searing Blaze seems okay against Eldrazi Tron, as it at least kills Matter Reshapers and sometimes their X-creatures. I find myself wanting to cut Swiftspear or Guide, because they get blanked by all creatures and Chalice, but that can't be right. This matchup is tough.
Also should we be bringing in graveyard hate against Grixis Death's Shadow? Does it depend on whether it's Relic or RiP?
We used all of the low-hanging fruit: pretty much every set that has been printed in the last four years. Besides those, we had foil Shards block packs, Odyssey, Judgment, Prophecy, 6th Edition, Fallen Empires (2 packs = 1 normal pack), 9th Edition, Dissension, Champions of Kamigawa, Innistrad, Legions, and a couple of others that I'm forgetting.
Some of these packs I had saved, but a lot I ordered from channelfireball.com. The shipping cost was kind of high but the price of the packs themselves wasn't terrible, so I ordered a bunch at once. If there's a GP or large tournament near you, dealer booths might be a good way to get packs without paying for shipping. I do imagine that the U.S. is the easiest place to do this though...
Last weekend me and some of my friends rounded up some old packs for a Chaos draft. A chaos draft is just like a normal draft, but the packs are from as many different sets as possible. I figured that this forum might be interested in seeing the resulting decks.
We had two pods, one of 8 and one of 7. So that's why you'll see some decks with cards from sets that don't appear in other decks.
Sorry the photo quality on some of these is not great.
4x Samut, Voice of Dissent, 4x Drogskol Reaver, 4x Rhonas the Indomitable, and 4x Sylvan Caryatid = 16 card for total of 8x Doublestrike, 4x Haste, 4x Vigilance, 4x Flying, 4x Lifelink, 4x Deathrouch, 4x Indestructible, and 4x Hexproof
3x Samut, Voice of Dissent, 4x Drogskol Reaver, 1x Akroma, Angel of Wrath, 1x Oketra the True, 3x Rhonas the Indomitable, and 4x Sylvan Caryatid = 16 card for total of 8x Doublestrike, 4x Haste, 4x Vigilance, 5x Flying, 4x Lifelink, 3x Deathtouch, 4x Indestructible, 4x Hexproof, 1x Trample, and 1x Firststrike
4x Samut, Voice of Dissent, 4x Lightning Runner, 4x Drogskol Reaver, 4x Sylvan Caryatid = 16 card for total of 12x Doublestrike, 8x Haste, 4x Vigilance, 4x Flying, 4x Lifelink, and 4x Hexproof. With help of Ghor-Clan Rampager or Tainted Strike, this list might have potential.
These are cool shells, good analysis. Of course this deck immediately sprung to mind when I saw Samut and the new gods. Rhonas does seem like the best card on rate, and deathtouch is better than usual with 8x doublestrike. Hazoret the Fervent might not be terrible either. Samut and Oketra seem leagues better than stuff like Prophetic Flamespeaker, and so much more castable than the Reaver. Of course the jury's still out, but one of these has to be a good addition.
I'm not sure that Shadow of the Grave would be better than Ideas Unbound in most situations. But it's a weird card and worth testing. I might try 1-2 next time I play.
I like your build, I haven't seen anyone post 5 color land base for a while. I have a few question though. How is Avalanche Riders? Do you get to cast them often or is it just in there for haste? Blood Moon seems solid, but does it ever hurt you?
- Yeah I'm not convinced that the land base is any better than what you've posted. It's cheapish and what I own, though. I do like having the Gemstone Mines available to cast Mirran Crusader. How do you like Cavern of Souls in the deck?
- Avalanche Riders is pretty fun. I chose it because I thought that haste was important and I couldn't find a different haste creature that I liked. I do cast it often. I think it's a decent hedge against tron and slower decks playing creature-lands. Against the attrition decks its nice to have a synergy card that is also a natural 2-for-1.
- Blood moon is definitely a risk. It would be much better if I owned Verdant Catacombs. Usually, though, between the fetch lands and 9 mana creatures I can manage better than my opponent. Faithless Looting and Avalanche Riders are both good under blood moon as well, making it a fine sb choice against three color attrition strategies.
I just found a list that top 4d a Face to face Sunday Showdown on Feb. 5.
The manabase seems dicey when you're using only fatestitcher to combo, but maybe it's good enough otherwise to make it worth it. I like the nagging thoughts idea, it's funny but it might work.
Here's another good looking deck that did well in a MODO league recently. h/t user 122pablo.
I like the look of this list a lot. Manamorphose makes a lot of sense as the card to replace probe, as its a free cantrip when you're digging or mid-combo. Going up on noxious revivals for explosiveness makes sense, and the 1 and 2-ofs seem like fine choices (I'd go -1 bolt, 1-swan song, +2 path though). Izzet Boilerworks is cute, I haven't seen it before. If I pick up this deck again, I'll probably start with a list like this.
Back when I was playing this deck I played a couple of Avalanche Riders in the main deck, which is nice against tron and other slow matchups and doesn't dilute the deck too much.
As a 1x-of Rishkar, Peema Renegade might also be an option as he can make two creature into mana dorks (and also reset Kitchen Finks in fringe situations).
It also lets your Finks tap for mana if it's got a -1/-1 counter on it.
Serra Avenger is a powerful card, I liked it a lot when I was playing another ghost quarter and creatures deck in modern death and taxes. It's a great source of pressure. Another decent two mana 3/3 flier is Smuggler's Copter.
If you're playing four Ralliers, would you consider Thraben Inspector or Mortarpods?
RIP this deck for now :(. I wouldn't fault someone for trying with Peek, or maxing out on Visions from Beyond and Thought Scours, and I could see this deck being a good choice to attack certain metas (where BGx has been pushed out by tron, for example). But losing probe will hurt its advantage of having a quick goldfish against fast combo and aggro, the information against disruptive decks, among many other things. The card was very strong, and they were right to ban it imo.
This deck list looks sweet, D90Dennis14. I would think that the interaction between Ghost Quarter and Renegade Rallier is so good that you would want the fourth GQ, maybe in place of a fetchland or the third Emeria. I'm curious to hear how the Oath of Nissas work out. Did you consider keeping a blue splash for counterspells and going three colors?
My favorite novel is Don Quixote, and I was thinking of making a bad theme deck out based on the book. For commanders, I was going to bend the rules and make Sir Shandlar of Eberyn (Don Quixote) and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder (Sancho Panza) partner commanders.

3-0 deck from pod 2, a blurry but very strong RW aggro deck. He said that he drew Boros Reckoner in 7 of 10 games.
My deck, UR spells. I went 2-1. Dwarven Catapult is a house.
Esper. I can't imagine that the Dripping Dead was worth it.
Jund. Featuring the most valuable pull of the draft, foil Damnation.
Deck built around Emissary's Ploy. I don't think he did very well but that's not the point.
Grixis. He brought three of the all-foil Shards block packs to the draft, so three-color was inevitable.
The event as a whole was really fun, if you want to blow some money on old packs I highly recommend it!

I want to include cards like:
bronze calendar (his helmet)
pariah
book burning (burning his fantasy collection)
barl's cage (he gets trapped in a cage by 'magicians')
thespian's stage (the puppet show)
monk realist (the priest)
horrible hordes (it has a windmill on it)
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I would want to have a card for Rocinante, Sancho's donkey, and a giant that looks like a windmill, at very least.
