Well, through much effort I managed to come up with an entry of my own this week. I apologize if it isn't very elegant. I really only have very basic skills with this and paint.net to work with.

Created with Dawn Charm + Midnight Charm plus this yin and yang img. I like playing on the concept of grayscale with the idea of yin and yang. I took a fire and water version of it to tie it into the colors of magic a bit better and then grayscaled the images. Technically, I should have put the midnight charm on the water side and the dawn charm on the fire side for a little more consistency with it but I didn't notice it until I was wrapping up and didn't feel like backtracking.

As for size.... whatever lol. I got something created at least.

That's actually really cool, I was considering doing something yin yang related.

    Awesome entry. Thumbs Up

I did some digging on how to convert to black and white and got this guide which is designed for photoshop which I don't have but I feel like his first method might be available in other image editors. I haven't played with it myself but it seems worth possibly sharing. If anyone has a better tutorial I would gladly watch it though.

Thanks for sharing that, hopefully it'll help garner some more interest in the contest and get us at least another participant or two this week.

On a similar note, for those who use GIMP, all you have to do to convert an image from colour to black and white is go to the Colors section, click Desaturate, then choose what mode of desaturation you'd like to use. Simple as that.

Where would philosophy get one in life?

It tends to be a major you acquire useful skills you can apply in a wide variety of fields through more than a major you actually make a career out of.

A lot of places, particularly grad schools, love to see that you can construct a valid, logical argument to persuade a person or multiple people, break down thought processes, think creatively, get an answer through thinking rather than just memorising, etc.; you gain myriad invaluable skills many other people simply don't have, giving you a pretty good leg up as far as employment and grad school entrances go.

I think you should have just CC'd straight up. There's no gain to not doing so, really.

How is there nothing to gain?

I mean, in most cases, sure, there's nothing to gain, but in this situation, I would've lived through the night if Ari wasn't scum and could've protected Jey, resulting in us winning in the hypothetical tomorrow.

Is it standard to just always CC?

I don't mean to come off as brash at all so apologies if I do, actually genuinely wondering these things, still really new to the whole Mafia world.

@Ghosting: Your elaborate schemes and ruses to determine alignments are cool, but you leave the bait in the water too long to be useful.

Makes sense, I definitely saw my scheme start to lack use as much as the day progressed, I just figured it'd be awesome at night to protect Jey and have an auto win tomorrow if Ari ended up town.

What should I have done instead? Just counter claimed ER?

I was mostly mad because I've seen poorly planned and executed gambits sink towns several times and I saw that starting to happen here.

Fair enough, I can see what you mean by that.

Also, if anyone thought be letting Karn die N1 was intentional, it wasn't. I tried to take advantage of it later on by saying that's why we couldn't have a doctor and why ER was lying, but the actuality of it was I was ridiculously busy and by the time I checked the game, night was already over. Slant

Meg bashed you a lot in the spec chat.

    Don't take it personally.

You did a nice job being obvtown, from what I saw.

I don't take it personally at all, I'm still super new to Mafia and have a lot to learn.

With that said though, what did I do wrong this game? I thought I did an okay job. Frown

Anyone have any tips for me? This is the second game I've completeled and I'm significantly happier with how it went in comparison to my first game, but I know I still have a lot of room for improvement.

I'm currently double majoring in English and Philosophy (I want to go to law school), and from what the professor's explained so far, it seems the reasoning behind Philosophy majors scoring as highly as they do on most graduate school entrance exams is that you're taught how to think critically, perform in depth analyses on various subject matter, and you're required to write, argue, etc. logically; you must question everything and do so in a matter that can be broken down and checked for accuracy, credibility, and satisfactory reasoning.

Not only that, but the actual subject matter discussed in class (at least in the class I'm in) is much more thought invoking than, say, an English discussion on a Shakespearean piece, an equation in math, or a series of steps in a Chemistry experiment. In Philosophy, there is no formula or textbook answer there for you, you must make the conclusions, and you must provide valid reasoning to support your conclusions and arguments as a whole.

As an aside, I heard Philosophy majors actually have one of (might've been the highest, actually) entrance rates into med school, too, which came as a surprise.
