I'm not convinced because WotC in these cases specifically avoid to put a mana cost on those tokens exactly because they could be easily mistaken for actual cards (see Embalm that makes copies of tokens but without mana cost).

It's true that any token that is a copy of a permanent copy also the mana cost but is also true that WotC never made tokens that shows this mana costs before. That's why I'm so suspicious of the fact that these tokens are actually castable in the Garth way.

True! But this also isn't an official WotC product. That's what makes me hesitant on the Garth idea.

Maybe something similar but it's not very evocative of cutesy animals though. Creatures dying is more nefarious, more zombie making in nature. Maybe it's like a storm variant like whenever you cast a creature spell you may copy this creature. I really like the idea of the Garth ability though. I think it's a way that they may be able to get some reserved list cards playable without actually going against the reserved list.\

And yeah, a death trigger probably isn't right for the setting, it was mostly just the first thought that came to mind.

It might just be a byproduct of the design of the token that it has the mana cost line at the bottom. It could just be something as simple as "Offspring: When this creature dies, create a copy of it, except that creature has base power and toughness 1/1." Not necessarily something you cast.

No, thats something very different. This token has a mana cost. The only reason you could want a token to have a mana cost is because there is a way to cast this token. Llanowar Mentor just create a token, doesn't cast it. This is something only Garth One-Eye was able to do in non-alchemy, non-acorn games. This is probably a whole new mechanic around Garth ability.

That's on me, it's been so long since I saw Llanowar Mentor, I thought it worked like some other cards. Any token that's a copy of a Spell (say from Squad or from something like Cackling Counterpart or for a more transformative version, God-Pharaoh's Gift) has a mana cost despite not being cast. It might be that this token is a copy generated by an ability like that.

For those who might have trouble reading the text on the one "card" in this (or who need alt text for the image):

    Warren Warleader
    Token Creature - Rabbit Knight
    Whenever you attack, choose one:
Create a 1/1 white Rabbit creature token that's tapped and attacking.
Attacking creatures you control get +1/+1 until end of turn.
(This token's mana cost is 2W)
    1/1

The others are a Food token, and a 1/1 Rabbit token.

The other items are a metal life counter that goes to 40, 1 d20, 2 d10's, and 3 d6's based on the set, 7 aluminum token cards (at least three of which are the above), 3 1/1 fish tokens, and 5 +1 metal counters.

The Warren Warleader is interesting. I thought it was just a fancy aluminum version of the card at first, but with it being explicitly a "Token Creature," it must be from something more like Llanowar Mentor. By itself it would be a pretty low powered card, but if you're making multiples of these, that's an effect that can get out of hand quickly. I wonder if it ties into the "Family" mechanic that's mentioned in the Jeskai commander deck.

It does allow you to not lose if someone Delay's your Phage the Untouchable

I'm sure there's some other corner cases like that, plus bringing it in line with the other "You may cast from Exile" effects that are more common these days.

I really dig the wording on Delney not being the same as something like Beloved Princess. If you want the benefits, you can't just grow your creatures willy-nilly.

These printings, yes. They have the "M" label on the bottom left corner to indicate rarity.

The emphasis is on it being a little bit easier to use as a one-off. There's still all the problems you've mentioned.

The reason Kindred isn't a supertype is because you can't subtype a supertype, and subtypes are really specific to what they go on. For an recent example, see the confusion about the Go-Shintai and whether Shrine is a Creature type.

In grammar, it's acting as an adjective, which makes it confusing, but it's better to think of a Kindred card as saying "Creature Enchantment" or whatever sort of card it is.

MaRo's been mentioning that the name change makes it a little bit easier to do as one-offs, in sets like Modern Horizons.

It's explicitly mentioned in this article, and MaRo has talked about it on Twitter and his Tumblr.

They also don't use Tribe in VtM. They use Clan. Even then, I'd be iffy about using VtM as an example. The newer books are much much better, but the original is from 1991, and it's horrifying how much bigotry is in that book that was old even for the time. I love VtM, but it's far from flawless.

Here's an article from the SPLC from 2001 talking about the trouble with Tribe.

EDIT: And I want to stress, this isn't a "You're racist for using tribe!" type situation. It's a "This language isn't as useful as it could be." type situation.

Is Latinx just a way of saying "Latino or Latina or Latin-other?" To include all three in the same group. Traditionally you'd say Latinos to refer to everyone in the group, and that works, but some might reasonably accuse it of being sexist. Shrug

It's not so much "That's sexist" as "It's language that doesn't do a great job of including people across the whole spectrum of gender, especially non-binary folks." Latinx was an invention of...well, from my admittedly limited understanding, folks primarily in the US. A more recent switch has been to Latine, as it conjugates way better and is easier to pronounce. There's a lot of debate on this, and it largely comes down to personal preference. Sort of like the use of the Singular They in English going out of and then coming back into usage.

It's just one of those complicated facets of language as an ever-changing beast as our understanding of the world gets that little bit clearer.
