Shriekhorn bins more cards than neonate does on average. Neonate was better when GGT was legal because of the explosive draws. I would still play shriekhorns because it can save your mediocre openers.

Explain why you think neonate is better.

Just noting Wand of Vertebrae caught my attention but is still much worse than shriekhorn unfortunately.

I do like the list by Sodeq too. I’m going to start there as well. I don’t know if I like 19 lands in dredge though. I’ve had bad starting hands even at 20.

Sodeq, leave us some thoughts on how Creeping chill went.

Its a one shot drain for 3, does that do enough though? Its dead in hand if you draw it and does nothing if discarded. Might be ok if you are replacing tormenting voice with it. Although I like the draw spell more. Chill could definitely help close games faster and prevent losing to hyper aggro.

Test it out and tell us what you think n0bunga.

In the lists using Tormenting Voice, why not use Neonate? I've been playing the Kuisma list for a few weeks and missed Neonate as another Thug target and 1 CMC instant draw. I'm currently experimenting with this list:

Would Scourge Devil benefit this deck at all as a 1 of? Pitches to Lootings and the Unearth boost would work great with tokens and surprise attack.

I agree, just need to innovate or switch up your sideboard for the change. Adding lingering souls, pyromancers, or maybe bone picker(questionable though) might be a good idea right now just to help with the aggro heavy decks. If only baleful strix was in modern, oooh boy.

I’ve not had the best of luck as of late since my shop consists of tier 1, tier 3 and home brews. All of which are too hard to account for. The spread is so wide you can beat some known matches and lose to a lot of the random unknown ones. Only reason I still play GDS is because its my best deck vs Tron currently and that is the primary deck being played.

My next best deck is fish but there are a few affinity players and well that one is miserable.

Affinity is a big problem for this deck. They have so much evasion and little creatures it is an uphill battle most the time. For awhile, I've wanted to add Forked Bolt or Abrade just for my local meta but Bolt seems pretty lackluster in a bunch of other matchups. Abrade might be a fine addition and should be easier to cast vs. KCommand. Also, you could try the Lingering Souls in SB plan. I heard that card is stellar.

Edit: my current list is below in the sig.

Just a guess, an Eldrazi Aggro deck using Serum Powder and Gemstone Caverns placed 1st at the SCG Modern Classic.

Not dead, just not popular right now while everyone is fanatically testing out BBE/Jace decks. It also doesn't seem to be a good idea running delve threats with Jace floating around not that it would stop you from countering/discarding him to begin with. Some are experimenting with faster builds including Bauble but it feels even more fragile IMO. It might also be worth sticking to the same build or experimenting with more threats? Not sure, just waiting for the meta to cool down some.

I’m in the same boat as you, I sometimes play control and have 0 Jaces...Not sure this shell will be a fit for him though as some have said. Pretty sure someone will configure it to be able to. I guess if you can’t play him, just have ways of dealing with him or expect to see him now. Only time will tell what happens.

Does this kill Grixis Death Shadow now? I can't see it doing well vs any Jace/Ux Control deck ever now.

It will make GDS weaker but will it kill it? We have to wait and see. I assume though that Traverse Shadow will be better option of the two from now on because it's faster and this is what you need against control if you play a Death's Shadow deck. You need to kill them fast (actually this was already the case now and it will be so much more important with Jace being part of Modern) because you can't win long game against them. Traverse Shadow does it better than GDS.

Well that sucks, GDS is my best deck and I don't own any Jace to try in either shadow or control... Guess I'll have to run some Dreadbores or something.

I'm actually running a 1 of Forked Bolt main just to help deal with X/1's. Has helped clear Lingering Souls better. Also an early 2 for 1 vs Affinity since that matchup has been really bad for me.

You can try to hate it out all you want, they still prevent you from drawing or dealing with their lock. Welding jars, Grafdiggers cage, Witchbane orb, Pithing needle, Academy Ruins say you can’t stop them. All mainboardable and findable with either stirrings or whir.

I would like to see what Grixis Control lists are floating around. That surprised me a lot as a choice.
