With Liliana you can -2 her, then play a new one and activate her loyalty ability again
Whereas with creatures 90% of the time there is no benefit to casting another copy.
Agreed, your talking about a Planeswalker and a Creature here. Planeswalker have abilities where it is beneficial playing a minus ability killing it off and recasting a new onw, unlike a creature where it may not be smart to cast another copy.
Notta. Its not usually what the deck whats to do. Its pretty mana efficent that it doesnt have to use vial to cheat or over extend. The deck is mostly burn spells aways.
A new domain zoo that has been doing pretty welll is out (got 2nd in todays primer) and the list and article is here!
I did notice though, the one thing I disliked about all the burn is they are all instants and it doesn't feed goyf that well. Maybe 2 Searing and 2 Pillar or something might be nice or 2 searing and 2 tarfire
What do you guys think about this? Obviously it is a goyfless and fetchless list. On the side, I'm not sure about the shaman and Arc trail should probably be Forked bolt (Although it feels great to kill Deathrite + Dork/Confidant).
Also, the 2 maulers feel great. As a budget list I love the speed they grant in some games.
There are a few budget decks in the previous posts earlier that you may want to look at. Cards that I would consider including that could be very helpful for a budget deck are:
2x Stormblood Berserker (Try interchanging it with Lightning Mauler)
Also, 3x Dismember is suicide as I have found when I ran 3x Dismember just recently... I would drop it down to 2, maybe take a Rancor out and put in some burn like Fork or Pillar (Depending on the Meta). Also I would ATLEAST consider 2 Pillars in the sideboard against Token/GW. It is the only real option since you are not running a White splash against Voice and Token production decks.
Also, do you guys think the new searing blood is better or worse than searing blaze?
Well considering it is the same cast and does better damage, I would consider it a better option. The only major difference is one garuntees you 1 damage to the controller, but avoiding that Searing Blood is just a better card.
@Lantern - The deck looks pretty sweet, although not a big fan of the whole white splash I can see its advantages (especially with Combo decks and Paths). Nice job and keep it up!
Posting this guy across the Zoo threads as he fits zoo's ideals. 3/4 body means hes above curve, he makes more bodies on block and attack. Doesnt die to bolt. Repopulates after removal. Attacks for 4 damage, and only adds up for more if the token survives. Blocks to soak up 5 damage, even the turn it enters.
More speific notes:
Evolves e1 to up to 4/4
For Midrange, 3 cmc is the sweet spot, can be crowed, but can also be t2ed into.
Double white, is a little harder with zoo nowadaus, as zoo prefers to be green and red.
Is a Zoo Animal, which is important for flavor nuts like me.
I could see this make a minor appearance in Naya versions/White Splashes, but I agree the cmc is too demanding for really anything.
Seal is alright. Honestly Id probably rate them this in order:
Pillar of flame
forked bolt
tarfire
Seal of fire.
Pillar is a little annoying that it doesnt put creatures in the yard (for goyf), but has too big of an upside against graveyard stuff. Finks being probably the card I'm scare of the most.
Forked, I'd perfer to use, as its the most value. 2 delvers dead with one card, means the other bolt can go to clique or the face. And feeds goyfs.
Tar is instant speed, with goyf feed, so its worth as a 1 of if you need it. Same deal with seal, just depends if you like to use mana when you want, and not having to keep it up, or if you like surprise burns.
Id still take forked or pillar before seal.
That is the reason I have Tarfire in is because it adds an extra Goyf boost. Pillar is definitely going to see play, I'm just debating on whether or not I should drop 1 Tarfire to the Sideboard with Seal being eliminated for 2 Main-decked Pillars or move it to the sideboard and play a Fork.
I do not understand why you are running 5 green fetches, 5 mountains and 1 forest. Shouldn't the fetches lean more towards red? I would run 4 Arid Mesa+4 Verdant Catacombs, no more, no less. I like Dismember in Gruul Zoo but isn't 3 maindeck too suicidal? I run 2 main,1 sb. Maybe If I were you I would cut 1 dismember for 1 Seal of Fire/Tarfire/Pillar or Forked Bolt. I also see that you run vines maindeck, is your meta that BGx and UR heavy?
I like that idea of Arid Mesa and Verdant. As for Dismember that is what I was considering doing for. How good is Seal?!
Well right now it looks like Monoblack is going to be the top deck of the format and Mono Blue will fall after. G/W will probobly be around the same as it was before, so if you are looking to go for gold at tournaments MB seems like the viable choice.
This is what I am running right now; however, I feel like Rancor and Dismember may be a bit overkill and that Vines should be a sideboard card and not main-decked. What are your thoughts on this? Specifically what can i do to make my Instants/Sorceries better?
What are you talking about? Do you know how pack rat works?
Well what I was saying is that normally you wanna get pack rat out early against Mono-Blue, but also Mono Blue wants to swarm early. The infest did push Mono-Black up but I feel not as much as people are expecting it will.
Mono blue will suffer with a -2/-2 sorcery out there for 1BB.
Esper and Mono Black will likely main or board these which is over half the field. Along with the selesnya aggro deck maining sometimes maining a playset of skylashers and mistcutters mono blue may not be relevant post BNG.
I can see that in Esper, just for Mono Black it also takes away one of their win-cons in pack rat. I still see Mono-Blue being as strong as they were before, but the -2/-2 sorcery does scare me a little bit.

Interesting build, especially when it runs without any of the high-dollar cards like Snapcaster and Geist.
Keep it coming guys! Love seeing zoo being back in the highlights!
