Splicers are one of of the best main deck affinity bashing options out there. I know stuff has really changed, but I think it has a place as a two off. Depends on the build I suppose.

Hand to top of library is a REALLY powerful effect. I don't know if we need that in modern to be honest.

There will always be a best deck, even if it is not by much. If Wizards would just bug off and quit banning players out of the format, I have no problem with BBE and DRS getting Unbanned and Jund being that to deck, both major decks I own thrash Jund Wink

Yes because jund dominance pleased EVERYONE.

@ltglitter I think you asked about eiganjo castle with flagstones/wall of resurgence. Didn't even realize how horizons that was but I do t think my mana base has room. I'll give it a shot though lol.

And when this top 8's the next GP I get all the credit >:3

So tomorrow was the deadline to let me know if you wanted to play in a fun D&T primer thread tourney, it looks like we only have 4 people as of right now. I'm going to give everyone else another week to let me know if they want to play, and then at that point it will just be a round robin with whoever is entered unless we get more interest.

As for modern thursdays, I lost to affinity in the final. Nothing worse than losing game 1 to 3 steel overseers + 2 spellskites, then having to mull to 5 game 2.
I kept a 1 lander with no white mana, top decked a plains to cast SS on turn 2, then played thalia turn 3. Took some beats in the air from a blinkmoth + Vault Skirge, then after a billion turns drew a second white mana to play my flickerwisp, I was at 9 ish life by this point. Flickerwisp traded with the skirge, and I ghost quartered his blinkmoth. A sideboarded whip flare took out thalia and I died to a 1/1 steel over seer over the next 8 turns while I proceed to draw nothing but lands :c

What's the tourney hosted over? PM details?

Double elimination bracket with a few main deck restrictions (I can edit this post with them in a bit). You and your opponent figure out when and how you are going to play the game, be it over skype, on magic online, cockatrice, by mail etc... You then report the results and we update the bracket.

Winner gets bragging rights as being the current reigning champ for the D&T thread!

Modern doesn't work as Legacy. Otherwise Modern would be... Legacy.

I think what you meant is "Modern doesn't work."

Look at how frequently cards need to be banned from Legacy, then look at Modern.
Look at how diverse the deck archetypes are in Legacy, then look at Modern.
Look at how many powerful card options each color has in Legacy, then look at Modern.
Look at the difference between Tier 1 - Tier 2 decks in Legacy, then look at Modern.

Do you think perhaps there's a reason people look to Legacy as an example of a well balanced, self regulating format and want to apply those principles to Modern?

    Well, looking at MTGGoldfish...

12.5% of the meta is Miracles
    8.55% is B/R Eldrazi
    5.92% is Shardless Sultai
a combined 8.57% are Delver variants between Grixis and BUG.

Nothing else hits 4% of the meta. So you have five decks, four of which run Brainstorm, Daze, and Force of Will. The other is almost a straight port of the Eldrazi menace from Modern. I would hardly call this meta healthy either. Healthier than Modern? Maybe. Healthy? No.

I usually look at http://mtgtop8.com/format?f=LE for a good representation of the meta. Some notes:

    * Eldrazi is a new deck in Legacy, something that doesn't happen often. It's natural that people will want to try it out.
    * Miracles has a high percentage as it is representing basically all of the blue based control decks. It makes sense that it's higher as all the viable blue control decks revolve around the same core engine (it's not split out into different decks like Delver), and it does a job similar to what Twin did in policing all the unfair decks. It's also one of the only formats where you can play a "real" control deck, and rewards tight play, so people tend to gravitate towards that.
    * At 4% here you also see Death & Taxes, Lands, Infect, Reanimator, and Show & Tell. At 3% you get to add Storm, Elves, Stoneblade, Burn, and Bant. That seems pretty damn diverse to me. In my personal experience, it's fairly infrequent to play the same deck twice and extremely rare to play it three times during an Open / GP level event.
    * The meta percentages aren't as meaningful to Legacy as they are to Modern, because the gap in power level between 3-4% decks and the 5+% decks aren't nearly as large.

You're kidding right? The gap in power is way larger in legacy vs modern. Saying the metashare percentages are account for just on playstyle preferences is a joke. I don't know how this crap came up for the hundreth time, but can we please CUT the legacy comparisons? Bottom line is many, many players play modern because they like it and not as a stepping stone to legacy. It doesn't need tools from legacy ported in, and legacy is not a successful model to build modern off of. This isn't even relevant to ban list so cut the crap.

Honestly I worry sword of the meek is too compact a combo that is resilient through A. Not ring creature dependent and B. Academy ruins can bring back sword. This would either end up in a deck with ensnaring bridge as mentioned earlier, or as a win con in a control tempo deck ala twin. I really like to think control doesn't need a combo to flourish, and don't really think decks with a combo back up plan are very safe in the meta.

How do we fair against burn? What do we bring in against them?

I don't even run kitchen finks. Nissas main and scooze side have been enough for me.

I wanna TRY it in my build as maybe a 2 off. It's awesome card advantage, a win con, and I certainly stuff enough lands in my grave running small pox, death cloud, liliana of the veil, and one off loam.

Stupid question; why IS chrome mox banned? I get that it's easy fast mana, I'm pretty sure it SHOULD be banned, but since it's never discussed I don't know what deck it slots in. I assume combo or affinity...?

All in red man, all in red. Turn 1/2 bloodmoons or ensnaring bridges everywhere. Mox gives ANY deck repeatable fast mana. Mox is VERY powerful in even legacy, it's beyond powerful in modern.

Thanks! Kinda funny to think of all in red being a worry haha. I may have to choose a different per card to push for an unban :(. Already shot myself in the foot for pushing for BBE or SFM Or Jace haha

Seriously. Twin can't be judge until eldrazi is gone. Can we PLEASE wait for that to happen? Cfusionpm, I know it's your beloved topic, but it's been the most rehashed argument on this thread. You've made your point literally hundreds of times. At this point it's not a discussion, it's simply trying to wear people down.

Blue does not warp legacy in a bad way, Blue is what makes legacy fun to 95%+ of legacy players =X

Blue actually keeps legacy together, and without it(And FoWs/counters), the format would not be functional. Please play a format before commenting on it

That is HUUUUUUUGELY subjective. As someone who cares about color diversity, of COURSE i don't like blue as it exists in legacy. I don't consider legacy a successful format and feel modern has far more potential. Don't go correcting people on OPINIONS.
