Rafiq of the Many was always one of my favorite commanders, but I was always sad that I couldn't include every creature with exalted since black was left out. With four colors now a thing though I want to try and make a four color exalted deck. However, I'm stuck on which commanders to use. I was initially thinking of using Sidar Kondo of Jamuraa but that forces me to use Silas Renn, Seeker Adept who seems less good in a exalted theme. Keeping to four colors then I'm stuck among the following:
I've read through a few of these pages and borrowed some of the ideas. I've thrown together a more chaotic themed deck than anything else. I'm not looking for it to be super competitive as my play group is fairly laid back. I'd rather just cause some mayhem with hand inconsistencies. How does my deck list seem for that?
My friends and I were playing with the newest commander decks, and a friend switched out Nekusar, the Mindrazer for Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge. Using just the prebuilt deck he won in maybe six or seven turns. I thought it would be fun to attempt to tweak the deck with a much more chaotic theme. The main idea I decided on was to force my opponents (and myself) to draw crazy numbers of cards, and to force my opponents to have to discard or change up their hands on a regular basis.
So any thoughts on how this deck stands up? Anything to add or take away? Thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
What's the consensus on RGB aggro becoming a thing after rotation? I know that without much from Theros it's hard to guess, but it seems to me like it's not that bad of an idea to splash right now. Would that make my deck to difficult to play though?
This is what I'm hoping the deck will like by the weekend. I just need two more Firefist Striker and three more Stomping Ground.
I'm also trying to look ahead towards Theros. What are some non-rotating cards that I should pick up? I'm open to splashing a third color as well. I'm thinking Black since that opens up Rakdos and Golgari both of which could add some faster and stronger drops. Some cards I'm toying with are Rakdos Shred-Freak, Exava, Blood Witch,Deathrite Shaman, Varolz, the Scar-Striped, Boros Reckoner, potentially Domri Rade although I feel he might actually slow down the deck if I can get fast enough drops, and potentially Burning Earth. What are thoughts on this?
I've seen the buzz words Aggro and Midrange used quite a bit around here. Aggro simply refers to giant creatures right? What does midrange refer to? I think I will wait until rotation to spend a lot of money although I pick up another Legion Loyalist for now, and I'll add in another Burning-Tree Emissary.
I just added a R/G Aggro deck based off the M14 Event deck. Sorry if it's somewhere in this topic already, but I didn't see it on the first entry (or at least I don't think I did)
This is my first foray into a standard build. I looked at the table of contents thread, and I may have missed something, but I didn't see a R/G deck on the list. I basically tweaked the M14 event deck with some other cards I had lying around. I'm looking on advice for what to add/remove. I am not interested in adding cards that will be rotating soon, but anything from RTR block or M14 I'm open to. Let me know what can make this better. I'm mostly looking to have fun with it at some local card shop standard nights.
This pretty much is a list of cards I have. I know that I need to pick up 3 more Stomping Ground, and I've thought about picking up Savageborn Hydra and possibly some Burning Earth. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Here's the deck set-up I have currently. I'm going to edit my post later down with how I think the deck should like along with a few other questions I have.
My friend is getting into standard, and I'm thinking of doing the same since a local card shop holds $6 game nights with at least a pack payout for everyone. However, I've been playing a lot of EDH lately with a little FNM on the side. Needless to say I'm not entirely sure how to go about building a standard deck.
With the RTR block I have a ton of Blue, White, and Black cards I'd like to play as well as a ton of Azorius and Orzhov and a few Dimir. After looking around online though I'm not sure how to go about this. I also have a lot of Simic as well so I could also potentially go UWG or UBG. So how do I decide what I want to run? Or where do I start? Thanks!
So I would like to build a Rafiq of the Many deck. However, I'm not entirely sure what direction to take it. I'm assuming the normal method for Rafiq is a Voltron style deck, but I don't want him to be my only wincon. I'd like to include "detain" as a normal method of shutting down my opponents. I'd also like to potential be able to literally Overrun or Overwhelming Stampede people into oblivion.
The cards I've included definitely go way over 100, so I'm looking for advice as to what to cut and what to keep or add. Any advice would be appreciated!
My friend and I got into an argument tonight during an EDH game. With a card like Sylvan Primordial or Wood Elves what types of lands can I search for? I know that I can obviously search for a basic land forest, but what other lands are included. We both agreed that shock lands were included, but we disagreed over gates and things like Simic Growth Chamber. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks. Actually it made me want more cards in this set than I thought I did, so I'm glad I wrote it up.
Hey there and thanks for posting. Are you new to the format? If so, congrats and welcome to the best format in all of Magic. I have a feeling that if you're running Bomber Corps and Searing Spear in a format where you are competing with dragons and insta-win combos and exaggerated life totals that you may not be sure what the playing field really looks like.
Have you read the card options section of the primer yet? You are playing a lot of really questionable cards. Bomber Corps? Sorry but in a 40-life format that just ain't getting the job done. In the card options section I go over most of the creatures one would want to consider playing. Thanks to all the community input, it's pretty exhaustive... there are very few resources like this so I encourage you to use it. The bolded cards in there are particularly good in most all Riku deck compositions. It should give you a good place to start. I would encourage you to read the whole thing, really.
If budget is a concern, check out the budget decklist in the decklist section. The whole thing can be built for probably around $50 or even less if you get more stingy. I don't want to discourage your creativity but you are playing so many questionable quality cards that it's difficult to know where to start without completely tearing down the deck and rebuilding from scratch.
Finally, since I'm guessing this is a new thing for you, let me link you to the Commander resources sticky in the main Commander forum. In there you will find blackjack's awesome Commander guide, the top 50 lists, and other great resources. After you've read some of that stuff (including this primer), come on back and we'll see what we can do for you. I hope you follow up!
And as a parting helping hand, let's talk about why some of your card choices are not good for the format and what alternatives exist (and I'm only talking about a few of them here as example cases):
Again, hope you check out those resources and give it another shot. As your deck stands now, it would get roflstomped by all but the most casual decks and we want to help you get better. Budget shouldn't be an issue here so all we can do is inform you the best we can. Good luck with it!
Thanks for the response! I've actually been playing EDH for almost a year now. My main deck has Krond the Dawn-Clad for a general. I really just wanted to make a Riku deck for fun and shenanigans. I'm already planning on removing the cards you mentioned. When I made the deck I had bought some cards and then just filled it with what I had. After play testing it, I realize there are a lot of crappy cards in it...
Anyway, I checked out your recommended cards (I don't know how I missed that section). It was a huge help! I'll try and swap in some cards that let me draw as well as some beefier monsters. I'll probably also add a few more lands. I'll repost when its complete. Thanks again for the advice!
I started my own topic, but it has gotten a response so the last thing I was asked about was wincons, and this is what I'm thinking of doing:
Wincons... I suppose I hadn't really thought about that which is why the deck struggles a bit. I suppose I'd like to use Riku's ability to clone creatures to overwhelm the board, and potentially clear up some space. I've found that Terastodon and Sylvian Primodrial work wonders for this, with the down side being they draw TONS of hate if I destroy mana.
Thinking about wincons, I've decided to focus more on creatures so I'd like to remove the following sorceries and instants:
I'm also going to cut Bomber Corps, and I'm thinking I'll cut Melek, Izzet Paragon since I plan on running fewer sorceries and instants.
Also, is Splinter Twin worth it? It's an enchantment so it can be slow, but I see it getting rather annoying on something like Sylvian Primodrial.
I've updated the decklist with some card's I've already tweaked. Mainly I removed Epic Experiment and replaced it with Doubling Season. I have also picked up a Blasphemous Act and I'll be adding that in place of something.
So what creatures are recommended to flesh out my deck a bit? Thanks!
1x Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix
1x Thrasios, Triton Hero
1x Ravos, Soultender
1x Tymna the Weaver
1x Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker
Black Green
1x Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper
1x Reyhan, Last of the Abzan
1x Atraxa, Praetors' Voice
So my questions are as follows:
1) Which combo of generals should I use? Atraxa, Praetors' Voice seems good, but I'd rather use partners. Any advice?
2) Which black cards should I add in to the mix? I know there's plenty of creatures with exalted, but what instants and sorceries etc help out?
Any help would be appreciated!
