1 mana vs 2 mana and the only thing negate gets that swan song dosn't is planeswalkers which we don't care about for the most part. As for losing to tomb scour, most of the lists here have ways to beat mill.

Dont forget about Syncopate. It hits all the annoying stuff that Maze's end decks dont like. Rakdos Return, the Red god, burning earth, and Sire of Insanity. fwiw, I run 2 syncopate and 2 negate main deck. But could go to 4 syncopate...

    $8.38

    [SB]

    4 omenspeaker .10
    4 Artisan's Sorrow .14
    4 down // dirty .10
    2 saruli gatekeeper .10
    1 crackling perimeter .14
    [/DECK]
    $1.78

this deck is made for the new standard format, and IMO is the most competitive deck you can build for the price.
Do you want a deck that will hand $500 decks their butt on a silver platter??
Well this is the deck right here. For the price of $10.08 you can walk this deck into any fnm and beat the crap out of almost every deck that is being played today. the only rare in the deck is Maze's end and it can be had for .50 online. other than that this deck is bad to the bone and is all commons and uncommons. If you wanted to suit this deck up and step your game to the next level I would add 4 Supreme Verdict to the main deck and take out 2 syncopate and 2 read the bones. Merciless Eviction can be had for less than a buck, but I would run the supreme verdicts if you could afford them. This deck is made for the new standard and takes advantage of all the new theros cards like

read the bones (amazing card draw)
    defend the hearth
    omenspeaker (for the SB)
Artisan's Sorrow (destroys artifacts or enchantments)

The great thing about this deck is that most decks right now have no way to interact with this deck. they just sit back and lose as you maze's end them out, or just crackling perimeter them out of the game. the only reason i would not run 4 crackling perimeter main, is because you are already running 4 read the bones main. Crackling perimeter is that good. Add those 4 supreme verdicts to the main deck, and go win a PTQ. *NOTE* this deck will maek you a better player since there are lots of decisions to be made when you play this deck. Also play quickly since if you are playing it right you will basically be digging in your deck every turn. let me know what you think!

Well this is the deck right here. Crackling perimeter is that good. [QUOTE=TalonXXX;/comments/12283293]I highly recommend 4 riot control. I am not personally a fan of Merciless eviction especially when you are already running four sweepers main I think you could free up two extra slots with that.

I think you can go 14 fogs 6 sweepers, or 16 fogs 4 sweepers. last season I ran 14 fog, 3 supreme verdict, 3 terminus. so this is just a meta-call but I agree

Eslpeth, Sun's Champion is an interesting choice, her +1 can be interesting especially with druids deliverance and I can see her -3 coming in handy as well. Her ult is not very good for us but then you can just go back and forth between her +1 and -3. I personally think that

I agree, she acts like a fog pretty much and a conditional wrath all built into one

Crackling perimeter should have all four copies in the side as I have never found it to be very useful game one when very few decks main deck ways to disrupt maze's end.

I ran 2 in my deck before and wish I was running 3, some players run as high as 4 in the main... 4 may be too much (but good setup for a budget build), they kill planeswalkers, and are basically a 2 mana spell that says I win when you get it down. and it gives you alternate win cons... (but this deck now has planeswalkers, so i went from 3 in testing down to 2. There are some games you will play where you just wont draw a maze's end at all, or you get Jace milled and lose a key gate. Also If you run into burning earth, Crackling perimeter gets around that

Saruli Gatekeepers feels very weak in the board to me as does Rakdos return.

I used to run 2 gatekeepers in the main and 2 may find their way back in. Against RDW, their deck is so fast this is all you have sometimes to keep alive. Rakdos return just comes in vs control decks, just always seemed good to me, there could be something better there (thoughtseize?)

I also prefer Jace, Architect of thought over Jace, Memory adept. Being able to mill them for 10 is cool and not bad in a turbo fog shell where you can protect him but he feels win more on top of Maze's end, Architect provides card advantage and can act as a semi-fog vs smaller creatures.

I like Memory Adept for the same reason you like the AOT. Memory Adept is simply a personal Howling mine. He provides card advantage, and since think twice is no longer around this is a big help... But in this deck i am like 51/49 leaning towards memory adept, but could go either way depending on the field.

this is the deck I am bringing into the new standard.... My last seasons maze's end deck record was 11-1. things I learned from playing the deck are..

    • Sphinx revalation is not that good in this deck, as compared to other control decks
    • Urban evolution is not that good in this deck
    • crackling perimeter is good enough to run 4 of between the deck and SB
    • having a plain and an island in your deck lets you consistently Supreme verdict turn 4 when you open with 3 gates, and a gatecreeper vine.
    • Having atleast 3-4 Non gates in your deck helps you play your 4, 5, and 6 casting cost spells... on turns 4, 5, and 6. when you need to.

The great thing about Mazes end is that it just flat out beats so many decks... and in a midrangey to controlley metagame.... it can just wreck the field. the counterspells in the deck may get changed to just 4 syncopate, still testing negate, swan song in not good.

I have been playtesting this deck over the last week in on modo and this is what I have came up with.

    4 cloudpost
    4 glimmerpost
    4 smoldering crater
    10 mountain
    3 expedition map

    4 firebolt
2 lit bolt (could be changed to flame slash maybe)
    4 martyr of ashes

    2 fissure
    1 Devastate
    4 earth rift
    4 molten rain
    2 stone rain
    2 icefall

    4 faithless looting
    2 ulamog crusaher
    2 rolling thunder
    2 stingmoggie

    Sideboard
    2 devastate
    2 electrickery
    2 shattering pulse
    1 exploration map
    4 fissure vent
    3 frostburn weird
    1 icefall

    sorry for the crappy layout

this deck is an absolute blast to play. completely wrecks quite a few decks in the field. Smashes mono red burn, Destroys and crushes affinity, beats down lots of the post strategies. I have been unimpressed with the stringmoggies and may change them out to faultgrinders. or just some kind of good red creature i havent found yet. in the modo tourney practice area, lots of times by turn 5-6 in the first game players just concede the whole match. Icefall has been impressive, martyr of ashes in the main is great. Fissure vent is the biggest beating ever. give this deck a try out. It is surprisingly strong for the current meta since so many pauper decks run little to no lands. or if they do run lands... they run posts and you can pinpoint those... maybe I will go to 4 icefalls in the deck after SBing vs R/U post..... 4 Pyroblast in the sb would really help the delver match since that is the hardest match to win
