I love that the goblin counts the number of artifacts all your opponents control, not just the player you're attacking. I can't wait to be one shot by this stupid card because some idiot decided they wanted to have a smothering tithe in play LOL
You know can put in your deck (gasp) interactive cards? Like enchantment removal or gut shot or...
Let's be frank, Yt channels are not charity. Same as wotc they are supposed to make money. If there will be more money in opening those pack they will open them, if there will be more money in being known to not open them they will not. The difference is that yt channels base on community support and have long term goals of cultivating this community (to make money from sponsors and ads) instead of quick cash grab that a lot of the product is at the moment.
It's terminal stage capitalism but that's the best we can have right now. :/
By the way, are there official information about card distribution in those packs? It cannot be the same since this is not a full set.
They've said each pack contains 1 rare, 3 uncommon, 7 common and 2 basics in the modern frame and 1 basic and 1 other card in the old frame, with the "other card" being rare 30% of the time. Dual lands appear twice as frequently as other rares in both slots. Sol Ring is at common and uncommon, but the common version has the art zoomed in. Source.
Yes, there are 3 basics in the proxy packs. Granted, there are also only about a dozen good commons and none are worth proxying anyway.
Just to add on to your information, the lads on reddit did the math and estimated that the packs had around a 50-52 percent chance to contents worth around $10 if valued same as the collector's edition from way back, which in reality they would be lower.
Honestly I hope this doesn't get released around the holidays, last thing anyone needs is a grand parent buying this crap thinking they got their loved one something special.
thanks. this was on the video that i refuse to watch i think. it might cost me if i punch my monitor in anger.
Oh good lord, just don't buy the things, don't take it out on players or your LGS. In a situation where proxies are accepted, why sweat about where they came from?
anyone who purchases this particular product in any way deserves ridicule, but proxies themselves do not. I do think the right take here is to laugh at anyone who plays these "official fake cards" while tapping your own very unofficial fake cards.
Depends on the price they paid I guess. I would like to have one (technically two, since two border printings) card from this set since I collect all its printings but I can give 5$ tops for it. I would not blame others for spending a few bucks on good looking proxies, but this will not be the case.
By the way, are there official information about card distribution in those packs? It cannot be the same since this is not a full set.
The only reason why there's a market for Gold Bordered Collector's Edition cards is because people actually play them in EDH / Commander. That's why getting a gold bordered Force of Will and Yawgmoth's Will was much cheaper to get a hold of compared to their original printings which are valued much higher. Yes they technically are used for display purposes but the reality is that these cards do actually see play in EDH / Commander and as far as I recall there was also a gold bordered Gaea's Cradle that saw play in the format as well. Do I condone using gold bordered cards in EDH / Commander decks? That entirely depends on your playgroup.
I don't question that people use them. The same I don't doubt that people use cheaper proxies when they want. My question was how can they ban something that isn't legal? Proxies of any kind are currently disallowed so how could they be more disallowed?
"How" is not a correct question. They are not legal and any "banning" cannot take place. The fact that comments referring to any "banning" appear is just overinterpretation of internet "personalities" statements by people who don't pause to think before throwing opinions into depths of internets due to emotional impact of this product.
As you said those are not legal in any format. This is the whole thing with RL - cards cannot be reprinted in form playable in any format. Everything else is just cardboard. Those are equally useful as any random card with sharpie scribbles on it issued by TO. I have yet to find a person who would disallow usage of proxies in nonsanctioned event. Some people (including me) have issues with readability of some proxies but this is always easily fixable. I see no problem if someone wants to use this product as proxies, but I would still clearly state my opinion of this product and try to convince that person to not use them. I do not want to gatekeep anyone from playing this game no matter how stupid/irresponsible their fiscal policy is.
PS
Cheapest printers can be bought by far less than 250$, you can buy corporate-level printers for less than 1000$... Just saying.
I think the RL "reprints" are ultimately good news - that WOTC is willing to experiment with reprinting RL cards in a minimally invasive manner to the collectors market and their past promise. In the short term, it seems like bad news - a transient cash grab for absurdly expensive proxies - but has impressive long term prospects and implications for introducing RL EDH legal cards in the future. No way I personally would pay that price for proxies I can't use, but here's to a future with black border Mox Diamond and new art duals for commander, if this proves a success. This is merely testing the waters.
Exactly. In the future they can say "nobody complained that we reprinted Black Lotus (not tournament legal). They only complained about the price of the packs."
And hey, would anybody actually mind if they reprinted pack like these at reasonable prices? If instead of $250 a pack, these were the price of a standard pack, would you be annoyed? I certainly wouldn't. I'd love it.
Yes, that is the proper price point - same as the original packs, adjusted for inflation. With print run similar to current sets. As it is I will have clear conscience printing my own "playtest cards".
By the way if those cards are not tournament legal can I pay for them with monopoly money, right? Same legality.
See, this kind of stuff is why I encourage people to buy proxies for everything other than tournament play. If you're buying singles anyway, why pay $15 or more for a card when you can pay 30 cents?
No, never buy proxies. Do not support people who directly profiteer from other peoples work. Buy a printer, make your own proxies. It's really easy, helps develop manual skills, helps develop image manipulation computer skills and the end result is unique and rewarding. Hell, even just printing and cutting out paper rectangles to put in sleeves with draft chaff is better.
Below is the list I'm currently running. I remember reading this primer when Mazirek was printed and it helped me a lot with initial list that later I tailored to my playstyle. My version is mostly control-attrition with a lot of recursion. Control elements (eg Voidwalker, Clique, Helm) serve the purpose to stop any shenanigans opponents might try or use to win and to use opponents cards against them while pressuring them with ever growing creatures. There is quite a lot of combo lines squeezed in with minimal amount of cards to offer some inevitability if the game goes long. It works great because most of the card can serve multiple purposes eg Yawgmoth can be combo piece, removal, overrun, free sac outlet, Hermit can be combo piece, free sacrifice and generates a lot of board presence to put counter on, etc. I intentionally have included minimal amount of tutors but a lot of recursion. I prefer to explore different play lines rather than always end up with the same result. This is also the reason that the whole reanimation suite can hit opponents graveyards. It creates even more unexpected play lines.
Currently I'm testing Defiler of Vigor and due to this I have also added Spike Weaver. I'm not sure how viable those will with only as many green permanents as I have but I can always slowly loop creatures with Stronghold or Witness/Deathmantle while growing my creatures. Defiler should also help with those green heavy creatures. Weaver is in due to increased number of aggro decks in my meta and people not running enough removal.
that's not really how probability works. if you had infinite resources to buy infinite boosters then yes, but neither is true so there is still possible a failstate where you lose money on that "investment". you even admit it by saying you need you open multiple boxes. if that was not the case there would be no reason for vendors to sell those packs instead of open them and sell singles. another example of the same principle is modo bots selling chests below ev.
sure the probability that you end up with less money that when you started goes down the more packs you open but it's never certain that you end up with profit. most people is fine with that as the amount you can lose is also a probabilistic function and you are not very likely to lose a lot but again lets not mislead people with saying you cannot lose because you still can lose.
no, your commander is "minsc & boo, timeless heroes". but i would say this design would be much more acceptable if it did. as it stands it's just a shoddy cash grab based on people nostalgia for memorable character without any real clever design put into it.
apart from not being legal in commander (unless there was some emergency unban announcement emrakul is banned) there are some issues:
- bolas's citadel in 5 color deck with avg cmc like in this deck seems very suspect,
- spell shrivel is just bad, you need sweeper protection and warping wail would be on theme and better at that,
- mythos will be very hard to cast for all three colors in this deck, there are better options for removal: despark, anguished unmaking, utter end to name a few,
- myriad landscape can fail to find in this deck too often and comes into play tapped making already slow deck even slower. same with other taplands, no, just no. don't put taplands in decks like this. basics will be faster and 2-3 cmc rampant growths are cheap and will fix colors at the same time. if anything use other evolving wilds variants in those slots,
- you are using almost exclusively eldrazi creatures, why not capitalize on this with anthem effects, top end would be coat of arms but you can go cheaper with shared animosity and 2 cmc lords like metallic mimic and adaptive automaton,
- more ramp, much more, you can use all the signets and all the talismans so put them in,
- there is almost no draw effects right now, since this deck is mostly creatures something creature based like shamanic revelation and hunter's insight effects should work,
- vampiric tutor is card disadvantage and diabolic tutor is painfuly inefficient. unless i'm missing something there is no reason why you would want those tutors, birthing pod maybe? it should be eldrazi adjacent enough for the theme,
- some ways to close up the game quickly would be nice, consider overrun effects, triumph of the hordes etc.
all in all as this deck looks right now it will probably get mushed by precon decks because they are more consistent. 6,5 is very generous rating.
that's because both are just a big body with prohibitive casting cost and very good ability. unfortunately they decided to nerf that ability by making cc unacceptable and tried to offset this by giving them a big body. this does not really work when compared to whatever else you can cast for 7.
if you can cheat it into play, preferably at instant speed, it's awesome. otherwise both will not do enough to justify spending that amount of mana. i have used primordial before in mill decks that needed some support in graveyard hate department (you don't want your opponents to cast commit//memory but you do not want to cast it yourself either) where i had multiple ways of reanimating it. you cannot use sphinx like this but i think it could be used in mimeoplasm where free mill at the start is useful. that interaction with volo is also very nice.
