Shelter spoiled. Hurray! I don't understand wizard's repring policy. Why this instead of moment's peace?! Same set even! Is aggro bad in Modern?

The noninclusion of fire//ice was also a big bummer for me. It's a very good card for control vs tron, which needs a lot of help.

There was a noninclusion of a number of cards that made a number of us very sad.
Considering the vast amount of potential reprints, even if the set consisted ONLY of reprints, a number of people would still be very sad. There is absolutely no way to please everyone ever. Imho, if the set goes well, there will be another Modern Horizons to both hype some people and depress others, but still include more cards in modern which, overall, I find a good thing.

Imho now that the set is spoiled let just the brew happen, people try decks, and the we can properly evaluate it in 6 months, rather than lingering in a misery of "they didn't reprint my pet card".

PS: Yey for me actually NOT ordering these Psychatog FNMs I was eyeing as potential reprints :p

Throes of chaos is a 1 of in the side if you want to grind, I think hilariously making this a spell everytime you draw a land in the slower matchups is hilarious. This demands a surgical or a spellbomb or RIP to get rid of in those fair matchups.
I can verify it would be SO annoying as a control player to have a Jund player spinning the wheel every flipping turn.

How fast can Dredge cast Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis?
I guess T2 if it goes T1 Faithless Looting into discard 2 Bloodghast and T2 land into Cathartic Reunion discarding Stinkweed Imp or any other 2 dredgers.

I'm absolutely glued to this spoiler season so I can say, "SEE, I TOLD YOU SO!" to absolutely ******* nobody; it's actually quite unhealthy. I'm not usually expecting much if anything from spoilers and sets, but WOTC and the community have hyped this set up so much as being a second coming...

...who exactly are you going to 'i told you so' to? Most of us that I saw trying to get some hype up for ourselves in this set did so because we see Modern as toxic, Wizards as hands off, and want a reset of the top decks.

In the scenario Horizon's does not accomplish this, you are going to 'told you so' to the same people who are disappointed that their own desires are not met?
He quite explicitly said "to absolutely ******* nobody" Tongue

I still don't see the negativity for the set in general. I can see why BGx players can be a bit frustrated, but at the same time, the set overall seems quite impactfull so let's drop the "if it sucks the join the club" camp for a bit. Heck, we've been discussing tricolored snow decks! So far things look promising.

In a dedicated Snow deck, you are looking at a Turn 3 value of at least (on curve) -5/-5 and that can be leaving your own creatures up and thats just using this sets cards.

Good enough? I dont know what Snow Payoff's we can get here, but thats not terrible.
I might be completely off on this, but I feel like the baseline for a snow sultai deck is there (yeah yeah, I am stretching I know). With the new fetch that fetches all basics you basically have 4 guaranteed color sources of any type, with the 1 mana artifact that draws a card and fixes your colors you have color fixing that doesn't let you a card down (and can be similar to mishra's bauble), you get to play a better Strix, and you get to play the best mass removal, that scales as the game progresses.

Now if we get a good payoff card, or if you pair these things with PWs like Jace and Vraska, and with good removals and maybe counters you have a decent shell.

God, based off these black cards revealed in the spoilers midrange was definitely not in mind when horizon was being created.

These horrible 4 drop black creatures are barely playable

    100% agree, it's disgusting;

You said Toxic Deluge wasnt enaugh, they just made a SO MUCH WORSE Toxic Deluge.. =(
Is it though? I can see a Rakdos Skred with this being good!

Nether Spirit reprint! This brings back memories of when I couldn't comprehend as a kid how you win with a stupid 2/2 creature and a bunch of spells! Now I only want Cabal Coffers!

Kess and Nicol Bolas Dragon God excite me for grixis. I feel that if grixis wants to get big again, it needs to take a different avenue than UW does instead of directly competing with UW. Kess and NBDG both fit in a more tap out discard shell that quickly wants to close the game once board control is established.

Kess passes the bolt test, but not the push and path test, so I'd want to run her together with some other creatures, like JVP and tasigur.
Kess and Tasigur work well together but in a very mana hunrgy way. They also fill relatively same roles, so I am not sure if you want them together.

Doesn't Kess hurt the Grixis decks? She allows your opponent to just play removal for her, no? Am I missing something here?

Not exactly sure what you mean. The effect is not symmetrical so that's no problem. And if you mean that, because you have a creature, it enables your opponent's removals, whereas otherwise they would be dead cards, that's only partially true. Considering that you can par her with discard, or you can have FoN up when you cast her.

You also don't necessarily have to cast her on curve (i.e. T4). Imho she actually works as a finisher snapcaster. She basically allows you to re-buy cards and, as a result, snapcasters (since you can reuse your K.Commands) much more efficiently than Tasigur which was often the finisher of choice.
In addition, she allows you to play your snapcasters more aggressively in the early game, because you will have a permanent effect later on.
Overall she seems great as a 2-of finisher!

I understand that many of you will disagree, but I have yet to see a single main deck playable level card spoiled from MH1, excluding the slivers and the canopy land cycle.
You mean that cards like Archmage's Charm Ranger-Captain of Eos, Force of Negation, Giver of runes, Fact or Fiction, Prohibit, Scale Up, Lava Dart, Wrenn and Six, Fallen Shinobi, Eladamri's Call, Ice-Fang Coatl, and Mox Tantalite, and that's just from the top of my head, are not maindeckable?

Yeah, Ouphie now makes people wanting to splash white for Stony more tolerable.
A good 1 or 2 of in the sideboard for certain metas and certain GBx decks.
Still waiting for something that helps the archetype out (HINT: It's not Toxic Deluge).
Artifact getting a lot of hate between Karn, Green Force and this. I'd be pissed as an affinity player.
Yeah affinity is paying for the sins of KCI/Whir/Lantern. Still a strong deck of course as it has been demonstrated at several points. Ouphe will also be GREAT in CoCo decks, but indeed also a good addition if you want to play straight up GB without the w.
