A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

Hello guys, I am a new poster to this forum but an old reader. I am also a dedicated Fae player since the day it was born. So far I have tried out UW, mono-U and UB. I do find the idea of UR fae tremendously appealing which provides a lot of versatility but I can’t comment based on my personal experience but only in theory. I feel like you don’t need the red as a possibility of closing the game for you. You should be able from 4 lands+ to close the game with your control of the board. It provides removal possibilities but is is not always the best, black removals or path to exile can give you more or less the same advantage.

I played mono-U fae on 2 fnms and my results were mixed, went 2-2 and 3-1. The thing is that if you manage to stall your opponent on the first 2 turns and especially against decks which run mana advantage then you are good to go. However if a threat goes on the board you are pretty much dead. You can rely on your vapor snags and counter combo but it is not the best solution. Most of my problems were against aggressive decks and against dredge/life from the loam (also in practice). I was a star though when it went to combo decks as I could usually out-tempo them.

I have only practiced with UW and it is not bad but it is not great either. You can always resto angel your stuff and have versatility on that part, you also have a good removal but other than that its not like it provides many more sideboard options while red or black do provide you with better solutions on your SB.

This week I am planning to play UB and my list is:

    4 Spellstutter Sprite
    4 Scion of Oona
    4 Mistbind Clique
    2 Vendilion Clique
    2 Snapcaster Mage

    2 Spell Snare
    4 Cryptic Command
    4 Mana Leak
    2 Dismember
    2 Go for the Throat
    4 Thoughtseize
    2 Inquisition of Kozilek

    4 Secluded Glen
    4 Darkslick Shores
    2 Creeping Tar Pit
    2 Sunken Ruins
    1 Faerie Conclave
    4 Mutavault
    2 Watery Grave
    1 Swamp
    3 Island
    1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

I feel like the threats I can remove with thoughtseize/Inquisition are way to many and they will allow me to survive the first turns but simply destroying the hand of my opponent. Also being able to dismember without pain and go for the throat and early threat is a great advantage. I know my post doesn’t go really in depth the the UB but I would really appreciate comments. Sorry for the long post got overenthusiastic XD
