Affinity is not a bad matchup. You should be heavily favored games 2 and 3 against them.

Would you agree that Affinity is a bad MU for our maindeck? What do you find are the key sideboard cards that change that?

It's really not unless they explode on you and you have a below-average hand. The entire matchup game 1 is knowing what threats you have to care about and how the matchup in general plays. Postboard you should utterly wreck them. You get to side out cards that while not amazing are a bit subpar for more Spell Snares, Ratchet Bomb/EE, Batterskull, Hurkyl's, Drown In Sorrow, etc.

Snare isn't in the deck for Pod. It's there for Storm and Affinity primarily. From testing with Threads and running it at the GP, I think it's a terrible card for us. Good in other decks, not Fae. As for Mistbind, not sure why people try to keep it in against decks running 4 paths. Should be one of the first things you grab to side out. Even against Zoo its near-useless. Just my 2 cents, take it how you may.

I don't want to be down on this deck, as it's something I really want to see succeed. Having said that, in all of my testing with various lists, it just feels like a worse version of other tempo and/or tempo-control decks already available in the format. Is there a major incentive to playing this list over, say, a UWR Flash, UWR Geist, or even the UR Delver/Pyromancer lists we've seen? The deck just feels like you're giving up so many tools for the sake of playing Bitterblossom.

cool. don't let the door hit you on the way out.

rather tired of you coming in every two pages saying "oh, i wish this would work. but it's just so terrible. " either actually contribute something useful or kindly click the back button if you enter the thread.

Way to pick a fight with the wrong guy. Check my post history. I haven't posted in this thread prior to today. I was asking a sincere question as to what sets this deck apart from others within this same strategy, particularly when U/W/R (U/R, specifically) has some better tempo options in terms of the removal suite and creature choices. In my naiveté, I thought this would be the place to ask that question. My apologies.

my sincere apologies. there are two people who consistently come in here who start crap, and on my phone your avatar is small enough i took it for one of theirs.

Guys stop saying Serum Visions helps us finding bitterblossom, it's a good card ideed but even Ponder wasn't good at it during Lorwyn block, why Serum would be Modern material for us... If you have only 2 in the deck you are thinking at it as late draw not as turn1... Now that a decklist did top16 everybody are good on SOFAF while I said always it's the best sword for us if you want to run any sword...
The manabase is good vs Blood Moon but quite hard to cast a turn 1 discard spell, that's why he's playing spell snare and even more from sideboard. This setup is exposed to affinity even in postboarded games... Spellskite is a target for the same spells coming in for bitterblossom, at least remember it...

    You....really make my brain hurt.

Finally home. Went 6-3 in the main event. Lost my first round to merfolk after he topdecked THREE straight paths to deal with my three tar pits swinging for lethal. Lost the second match to Rock having to mulligan to five both games. Lost my win and in for day two against esper mill. both games i thoughtseize, see he had nothing, then he draws and plays a mesmeric orb.

Deck played well overall. did two win a boxes on day two and dropped two games total. just got rather unlucky at some key moments. i know there were at least four other fae players on the bubble for day two, so good showings overall.

@billyofcourse: Only one of us looks quite goofy, and it's you. You should actually read my post before assuming I'm an idiot. I specifically said I was originally planning to only play Grafdigger's Cage because I thought Living End was fine. Meaning I didn't think I would need graveyard hate against Living End, and so I could afford to play graveyard hate that didn't affect Living End.

@Eyron: How are you hitting your first four land drops reliably against a deck that destroys your land on turn 3? I'm just not seeing it happen. I'd love to play all my creatures with enough mana for counter backup, but what happens is I'm scratching and clawing to have 2 or 3 lands. Then I pass the turn with 2 mana up to counter their spell, and at my EOT they cast Violent Outburst. Sure, I have counter mana now, and I can counter the living end, but then THEY untap and I don't, and they get a free shot that I can't stop.

In general, I don't like keeping a 2 lander against Living End. In most matchups a 2 lander that has BB in it is pretty ok to keep, but I would usually mulligan that against Living End.

The only time a Living End player SHOULD be popping a Fulminator Mage is a)if it is going to die, b) if their opponent is mana screwed, or c) is a land-dependent deck like Tron or Tribal Zoo. Otherwise, the better play for them USUALLY involves swinging with it for a few turns. Sounds like you play against a hyper-aggressive player. Also, statistically the odds of them being able to go t3 land destruction, t4 Outburst, t5 other cascade spell are NOT astronomically high. There are games they'll god draw, there are games you will. But in general, it sounds like you were playing against a very aggressive player with very good draws, and didn't have the hands to counter that. Happens.

Also, Spellskite is nice out of the board for a couple dead cards, as it saves you from Beast Within/ Ingot Chewer if you are siding in artifact GY hate.

the only time I've lost to living end is either due to screwing up or getting screwed on lands. as long as you hit your first four land drops you should be golden. keep an eye on their cascade pile and count how many cascade spells get bottomed, don't rush to slam bitterblossom, and always have counter mana up

Did you really need someone to tell you have to play aggressive with this deck?

considering nearly every other matchup we play very tempo control oriented, yes. stop being a smartass.

my issue with swords boiled down to this. more often than not they just didn't do enough to the on - board situation to warrant the maindeck slots. i still like them out of the board for specific m atchups though. devour flesh is actually very versatile in the deck. it lets us not worry about gost or etched champion, and can pull some neat tricks with our own things if needed.

i played gifts for the last year and half actually. from a fae perspective it's a strange matchup we actually need to play very aggressively to win. the longer it goes the worse it gets.

If you're siding in Grafdiggers vs. Living End, you prooooobably shouldn't be attempting to play fae, given that you need a decent intelligence to do so.

    Warning for flaming
