Feb 4, 2014Chilli_Axe posted a message on Launch Giveaway! My favourite card is definitely Manor Gargoyle. It's extremely flavourful, it's relevant in limited, it's actually a pretty great card and you can pull off some shenanigans with how its ability is worded. Everything about the card is just perfect.Posted in: Announcements

Sideboard is just a draft atm so you can safely ignore it. The mana is also kinda rough because of how high the coloured mana requirements are on elder deep-fiend, even though we have 2 fastlands and sunken hollow. So it might end up that RUG Emerge is better choice overall because of how much more useful Kozilek's Return becomes and how much easier the mana is. What do you think?
Also it's possible that playing some number of Scrapheap Scrounger is correct, but in my testing I've found that 2cmc means it's non-optimal for emerge and 4x haunted dead is consistent enough at reanimating prized amalgams that I feel running extras of that effect is unnecessary. Most of the time you're not going to have many expendable creatures in the graveyard so advanced stitchwing is probably a better choice in that slot (if it's necessary).
Looks like Shriekhorn in no longer necessary to shore up the number of enablers we need I guess, even though 1 mana is pretty important. Something like this might be a good starting point for the enablers we run going forward

I think a 1 mana discard outlet like Putrid Imp or Tireless Tribe would go a lot further towards making the deck broken. Being able to take full advantage of burning inquiry would be massive
Mostly because it's a free, instant speed discard outlet for when I have cards in my hand I need in my graveyard. It wasn't my first choice but after playing with it for a few weeks, I'm finding that it's worth the 1 slot - often I have a good hand with multiple enablers + lands but no way to discard many cards, so when it comes to turn 2 and I've dredged a bunch, but need to get some prized amalgams or bloodghasts out of my hand (more common than I expected) phantasmagorian steps in and makes the deck a bit faster, or it lets you discard your high power dredgers so your dredge engine doesn't slow down. Also it lets insolent neonate discard more cards in the corner case when you have phantasmagorian in your hand. It's kind of a non-bo with loam + conflag, but you don't always use phantasmagorian and when you do, it's only -2 cards so loam can pick up the slack easily. I sideboard it out for the 1-of haunted dead in matchups where I'm expecting to grind (jund, grixis) or need an instant speed untapped flying blocker (infect). Otherwise I'm very satisfied with phantasmagorian but I would never run more than 1

It's been working out great so far. Went 3-1 last night (lost to jund 1-2, won against RB control 2-1, won against affinity 2-1, won against jeskai nahiri 2-0) and I felt like the number of enablers is about right. Imo the deck almost always fails to win when it fails to dredge, so it's logical to max out on the number of enablers without compromising the core engine of the deck. Legacy dredge plays 4 study, 4 looting, 4 putrid imp, 4 breakthrough and 4 LED and that usually feels about right so I don't see why 15 enablers is too high. Going forward I might end up swapping 1 voice for the 2nd blood crypt though, as I had some difficulty casting my thoughtseizes in games 2 & 3 last night so another black source should alleviate that. Also a 3rd loam is probably a good inclusion too
