Helps you cast raven's crime multiple times in a turn (usually when you have life from the loam going) and fixes mana for casting liliana. It's better than swamp more often than not.
EDIT: And FWIW, I agree that loam is the real reason to play green. I would still play deathrite if you wanted to cut green, with maybe an overgrown tomb in the main or board. Just because deathrite has the potential to be better in a greener build, doesn't mean it isn't still an insane card with just the black parts.
does Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth effect lands in graveyards and/or not in play?
Im new to Modern, but i dont understand a couple things about it. First, i hate the fact that the lands you need to be competitive in modern are just so high, especially fetch lands. I dont understand why Wizards doesnt reprint them or something. Because of the land base alone, its very daunting and seems to limit people who would like to get into modern.
secondly, and this has probably been said before, i simply dont get the price of Tarmogoyf. Yeah, i get it, its an amazing card. but that card alone doesnt win you games, and to have a play set is around $550 minimum. thats just absurd.
I wouldn't use more then 1 of each shock. I assume you don't have fetch lands, so the changes I recommend would be 3-4 reflecting pools. 1-2 vivid lands. Another thing to be cautious of is the use of death rite shaman. If your meta is budget and no one really uses fetches, then deathrite may not be as effective. Birds of paradise would be a decent budget replacement if so.
thank you 2 for your input. yeah its pretty casual and so i feel that deathrite might not be that great even though i own 3 so getting them wont be an issue. that being said, can you guys give me a link to a good list that doesnt utilize death rite? thanks again!:)
also, is a play set of birds a must without death rite? and how good is lingering souls in the deck? i have a ton of them, but am hesitant to put them in
Hey so I'm new to this deck and for the time being I was going to just use the ravnica shock lands I have because im on a budget. right now im just playing casual with friends, but I am going to try and save up for the major pieces.
If i were to use only shock lands and the tap lands, how many of each should I have? should i run a play test of all the G/U, B/U, W/U shocks? ane what about lands like temple garden or godless shrines?
this might be a hard question to answer but thanks in advance anyways
So im a new modern player, mostly have the current standard legal cards. Im looking on using a deck that I have a lot of the shock lands I already have so that i dont have to spend a lot of money.
I would ideally like a B/G/W deck or a B/U/W deck based on the lands i already have. i dont expect to buy any fetch lands until i have my base main cards.
So my question is, based on those colors and lowest total price not including lands, which decks should I look into that are in those color schemes
Favorite Playstyle: Combo, Control
How Competitive: Highly competitive. Local Stores dont have Modern tournies, but id like to one day go to bigger tournies and friends at school all play modern. i straight up dont have fun with low tier decks.
Favorite Cards/Colors: in order for most liked color: B, U, G, W, R. I joined this standard and played Junk Rites for a long time but dont want to continue standard because of money. I want to get a deck I can build and play for a long time.
Budget: id say undefined. I want to buy cards for the deck over times slowly, so any deck that can have some cheaper place holders for the time being is great
Staples Owned: Snapcaster Mage, all staples in standard Junk Rites including all its lands. B/U shocks and tap lands. Deathrite shaman, abrupt decay, delver of secrets, possibly more, but mostly that legal in current standard
