Oh boy this announcement is big.

Bye Bye Grixis Delver / 4-color Leovold

Good, no changes. As it should be.

They only do one unban announcement per year, so I knew they wouldn't unban Stoneforge.

I think Alpine Moon will have a big impact on Tron decks. The difference between 2 mana and 1 mana hate is not insignificant

Also, I tend to sympathize with the Jund, Jeskai, and Mardu decks of the world since they represent the interactive decks in modern. Personally, these are the types of matchups I enjoy the most and I think a lot of players do as well. It's better than the "two ships passing in the night" phenomena we get with many modern decks

It's a very narrow sideboard card but yes finally something that hits BOTH big mana strategies, unlike Sphere which only hit Tron and Blood Sun which only hit Valakut

Can we at least talk about getting Ponder, Preordain, and Chrome Mox back if we are going to keep Mox Opal and Ancient Stirrings in the format?

Although there is a legitimate conversation to be had about Preordain and Stirrings, this does not justify arguments for unbanning BOTH p&p, not for an Opal/Chrome comparison. Both cantrips would surely be an overcorrection in the wrong direction, especially if other formats (Pauper and Legacy most notably) are any indication of how those cantrips get used. As for Chrome Mox, we have enough NBL examples at this point to strongly suggest it benefits unfair decks far more than fair ones. This might shift towards an argument for banning Mox Opal, but it's not an argument to unban another unfair card.

For Chrome Mox, the most common place for it in NBL Modern was in Dark Depths decks, which will never be legal in real modern. The other deck that played it at least in the top 16, storm, will likely never have Seething Song and Rite of Flame back. This makes me question whether it would actually be too strong in current modern combo decks. Ad Nauseam would surely play it to great success, but that is currently in the lower tiers. KCI plays too many artifacts for it to work, and I am unsure about it slotting into Gifts storm or any other combo deck for that matter.

But if we were to take the other approach and decide that Mox Opal is probably too powerful for modern, I am still very much in favor of swapping it with the 5 artifact lands. Those cards being banned while Opal is legal is quite honestly a joke. They are a relic from a much, much older age.

I wouldn't be upset with a Stirrings ban. It doesn't flat-out kill any decks, but it does weaken a lot of the decks that people consider are unfun to play against (KCI, Lantern, Tron). It seems like a fine ban that wouldn't upset people to see go

I don't think anything from humans needs a ban.

I would keep my eye on something from KCI because its a powerful combo deck which we know wizards doesn't really like to have in the format. Possible hits: Ironworks, Mox Opal, Ancient Stirrings, Chromatic Star

If we take the results of the NBLM event to determine what is ok to unban, we would have to admit that Skullclamp is perfectly fine which is of course ridiculous.

When Disallow is a 4-of in most of the control lists, I don't think counterspell needs to be printed in standard.

I wish nothing was banned in standard except for Aetherworks Marvel. I think then we would have a very interesting format where you can play Temur energy, 4 color energy, Saheeli Jeskai, 4 color Saheeli, BG constrictor, Sultai constrictor, mono red, red-black, mardu vehicles, UW control, UB control, BW Benalia and so forth

I wouldn't blame chainwhirler. The card will likely be fine once Amonkhet and Kaladesh rotate this fall.

Red/red-black just has a critical mass of great cards right now.

I do think the Ferocidon ban was a joke, however. I also wish Temur energy was still around to give players another deck option in this current field

Seal Away cleanly answers a Reality Smasher which is quite nice. I may consider it for the Jeskai control sideboard

Karn -2 making a non-lord Master of Etherium immediately and then again next turn is very scary. I do like Antiquities War though

    Oona, Faerie Wizard 1UB
    Legendary Planeswalker-Oona

+1: Choose a color. Target opponent exiles the top 4 cards of their library. For each card of the chosen color exiled this way, create a 1/1 blue and black Faerie Rogue creature token with flying.
-1: Whenever a Faerie deals damage to an opponent this turn: Draw a card and you may discard a card.
-4: You get an emblem with "At the beginning of your upkeep, create a 1/1 blue and black Faerie Rogue creature token with flying. Faerie creatures you control have haste"

    2 Loyalty

I definitely think the +1 and the -1 should be reversed.

Played against that Hollow One deck today and boy that deck is dumb.

Won 2-0 but only because I chose correctly on his Goblin Lore to take 2 Hollow Ones. He still had the 3rd Hollow One to play immediately afterwards. If I had not chosen correctly, I would probably have lost.

I am not too happy that the deck takes the already existing variance in Magic and magnifies it
