I'd like to know where these clues are coming from.

Also of note: Elspeth is not the only Champion on Theros. Several Flavor texts refer to a Champion from an Illiad/Odyssey like text called The Theriad. There could be a far flung place on Theros that has longer days/nights than others that this Champion visited. Figured I'd bring that up since, as has been stated, there's no evidence that Elspeth has been to Lorwyn/Shadowmoor.

So what you're sitting on is Rock Midrange. This is normal as B/G doesn't really do outright control well. My current standard deck is Rock Midrange as well but I lean towards the control side due to my nature.

Let's just put this right out there. Kalonian Hydra is a trap. Outside of a Jund Counters deck where you curve him out of Exava he will die before you untap. If you manage to get going with him that's great but I have a Doom Blade with his name on it.

I don't have my deck or my list on me at the moment but it goes something like this:

    2 Desecration Demon
    3 Reaper of the Wilds
    2 Lifebane Zombie
    2 Sylvan Caryatid
    2 Crypt Ghast
    4 Lotleth Troll
    4 Dreg Mangler

    3 Doom Blade
    3 Putrefy
    1 Hero's Downfall
    1 Deadbridge Chant
    3 Underworld Connections
    2 Erebos' Whip
    3 Abrupt Decay
    1 Vraska the Unseen

    4 Overgrown Tombs
20 swamps and forests, the mix of which I cannot remember but it's more swamp heavy.

This sets me exceptionally well against aggro decks as my threats are hard to remove and I am more than happy to play slowly to grind away the advantage. I'm working on a sideboard which will pretty much be entirely anti control. Golgari Charms and Thoughtseize (I'm still considering whether or not some number of those should be main deck.), Savage Summoning.

One could easily substitute Primeval Bounty in for the Deadbridge Chant but I will take card advantage over board advantage any day. I don't find Mutavaults very necessary unless you want to include a Pack Rat or two. I suggest dumping the Scooze for a Reaper or two, When Patrick Chapin and Brian Braun-Duin say it's the best midrange creature in the format I tend to be pleased that they agreed with my choice.

A couple tips for the other poster: Ordeals on turn 5 are pretty late. There are tons of other things I would rather be doing that would further my game. Also in two color decks dual lands are bonus. You don't actually need them to make your mana run smoothly, particularly if you get a Reaper down and scrying, thus Gatecreeper Vine is very unnecessary. There are very few permanents that I can imagine I would want to deal with that only Bramblecrush can deal with. Slot in some Naturalize in the sideboard and you're good. LD is not really a great plan and seems like it would detract from your overall goal. Remember that all cards come at a cost and that is a place in your 75. What else could you be playing in those slots that would better develop your game.

BTW feedback on my list is more than welcome.
