i'd go with mormor vig or edric (though for some reason it feels like edric would be banned in 1v1), just 'cuz they are huge when they land, and they up your card advantage like nothing else...
i think generally, choose a general with cmc4 or less, unless it's maelstrom wanderer (purely because it's the awesome, and you're in green so you can ramp).
1. i think you probably would want more lands (urborg, tomb of yawgmoth and cabal coffers is a thing)
2. even just a tiny bit of ramp
3. hatred (this wasn't mentioned, apparently)
i think what you've got is a really good starting point though. it reminds me a little bit of what i'd have done if i'd have tried to build an infect-proliferate edh deck. the difference i think here is that you actually have a good amount of spot-removal, something i dont see many new EDH players (or possibly even just magic players as a whole) use!
ps - welcome to EDH/commander!
how does it run though? have u tested it? does it feel kinda scary when night falls? can't wait to try sleeving it up!
but yea i'd also echo donufan's advice to stick to 2 or mono-colour builds, just to save on the manabase.
on a slight tangent though, do u guys have opinions on the black anthems (bad moon, mikaeus the unhallowed et al)? i run a few of them in my zombie horde, and at least bad moon is quite underwhelming. mikaeus on the other hand is quite brutal if left unchecked (the undying being the more brutal part though).
I suppose that kinda sums it up, eh?
when MLD is timed right, it is a wincon in that it stops other players from doing anything about it.. but when played badly it just grinds everything to a halt (in which case you'd probably get the win just 'cuz the others would scoop).
The thing is at least for me, i try to have all my decks lendable to other players who haven't tried EDH before. And i dont want to see a badly timed armageddon or having to wait for a half hour for them to go through the deck to tutor for something.
i dont think ive ever lost when playing a pheldagriff political deck actually. one can become the biggest threat to the table without ever having the most threatening board state.
unban Panoptic Mirror! sure it can be abusable, but its not an insta-win.. it still requires at least a couple of pieces. I imagine it was banned mostly to stop people from imprinting a time stretch.
it sounds like some people out there have such a fervent hate for U that im surprised that they havent discussed banning island!
...and the next time i play a game with the same player, id ask if hes still sporting the same combo. if he is, then im gonna pass on the game, but good luck to him. if he isn't, then shuffle 'em up!
edit: possibly can be combated with underworld dreams too
i mean "it was probably a lousy spell in the first place"!
not sure if the newer players met ertai, but that guy rocks
i think the question should be refined to 'players that don't understand the playgroup' or something along those lines.
If i were you though, i'd do as many here have already suggested and talk it through. edh should be a social format, so i really couldn't emphasise that enough.
i personally don't like MLD though just because its usually unnecessary. in a weird kinda way, id rather play against someone with a time walk isochron scepter lock.
