I think the 2 extra chieftains make sense in that build, since they cut reckless bushwhacker. The chiefs pretty much act as whack effects 7 & 8. I'm not sure how I feel about 3 grenades though, that card is just so, so good.

Thanks! It was a fun day. Yeah I definitely had more than a few moments where I wished I had destructive revelry instead of smash to smithereens, and once I get the budget I'm going to experiment with a light green splash, and, since chieftain was boarded out frequently, I may try a build with 2 in the board or a 1/1 split in the main and board.

other cards I want to give a shot are devastating summons and dragon fodder, but they'd be main. As for the sideboard, I may cut relic, or a cage, if the grindier decks really aren't as prevalent in the meta as I thought. Im not sure what I would replace with though

I agree on the chieftains, 2-3 seems like the best number. I've been running two in the main, 1 in the side (which i'd say is typical for 8 whack), but I've been considering dropping another to the sideboard for a devastating summons or hordeling outburst.

I recently came 29th in a 180 man event, if anyone wants to read the writeup on that I posted it over on the goblins Reddit:

(I forget the exact rules on external links at mtgs, if this isn't cool sorry guys)

Chung is the hero of this tournament on day 1. his matches are a breath of fresh air, compared to the rest. The novelty of an aggro v aggro match wears off fast. It's entertaining like.. once or twice in a day (on camera).

I like the optimism of your post Grin It's a shame to see twin go,even though i don't play it now, it was my first modern deck, built back when twin was still $4 (Canadian!). I hope none of you got burned too badly. I'm also curious where you guys take "the deck" from here (Ie, still try and play a kiki/resto combo? do as Cavalry wolf said?

they did it. This is going to throw the format on its head. Maybe well see a few more decks branch out from the ur shell now that they aren't just worse twin decks.

  • posted a message on [POLLS] What cards do you want banned or unbanned in the next announcement?
I'm hoping stoneforge and sword of the meek are unbanned, i feel like together they could make an esper stoneblade/thopter deck a real threat. As far as bans, either summer bloom or hive mind, not both. Cripple the really degenerate draws from amulet bloom but don't kill the deck.

One card i highly doubt will actually be banned, but wouldn't mind at all, is simian spirit guide. It exists only to do stupid things. It's not breaking the meta right now, but i feel if there's ever going to be a combo deck that really breaks modern (as in affinity/cawblade level breaks), it's going to play four of SSG.

Heads up by bob huang to ask the judge but that's a super, super bull**** way to lose.

They probably put company/goryo's on camera because the matchup won't be very fast, compared to the slugfest on the other side of the bracket (at least in theory). Don't worry, I'm sure we will see the majority of jund vs twin g3, at least.

And as for goryo's itself... This is the guy who took the deck to the next level, he's obviously pretty good with it. The deck really loses to itself pretty frequently.

Hmm.. Shame to see the B/w tokens fall. Cheering for abzan company now i suppose.

while watching him play is probably not the greatest viewing experience, i really like how patient Joshua cho has been when he's on camera. Always super collected, edging out small victories and worrying about winning, not winning big.

I really enjoy the fact that this guy on B/W tokens is doing so well. Also, watching that last game (Naya vs Twin g1) was pretty exciting. A bit of luck on the company players side, but he also maneuvered that really well.

The little green men performed well for me yesterday, managed to go 3-1 in a daily and win my warm up match. My list is in my sig.

Warm up Match: Grixis Twin (2-0) W
Game 1: I'm not sure what he is on for a while, but i get off to a good start, t1 dork into t2 heritage/nettle archdruid. He picks off my elves but i had a spellskite in my hand and it stuck after a few remands (turn 4 or 5). He drops a deciever to block, and eventually manages to kholagan's command skite but didn't have twin, and I kill him with a topdecked mirror entity.
Game 2: Pretty similar to the first, tbh, only this time, I chord for a spellskite. Just chipped away at him with the little guys.

To be fair, both games i managed to drop a big chunk of my hand t2 and didn't see the dreaded t2/3 red sweeper. took out 2 visionary, elvish champion, and brought in 2 dismembers + a scavenging ooze. Scavenging ooze probably could have been rec sage, but I like the value of hitting their yard.

    The Daily, Round 1: Grishoalbrand (2-0) W
Game 1: really wondering what the hell my opponent is on. I assumed it was dredgevine seeing grisly salvage+ faithless, and it's not till i'm about to kill him and he pitches borborygmos right before dying. I had a t4 kill, he managed to kill exactly 1 of my creatures with lightning axe.
Game 2: a bit more interesting, knowing his deck can kill early I'm a bit spooked. But I stick with my guns, keep a good 7 with a scavenging ooze. It dies to a lightning axe, but it meant i could land an archdruid afterwards and just run him over.

I considered if i had maybe waited on the scooze to save it for pumping right away, but i think it would have died regardless. Sideboarding option for this match we're really light, but i cut a visionary for scooze, another for a burrenton forgetender. It didn't come up, but if i play the deck again i'll try bringing in all my forgetenders (take out an elvish champion and maybe skite). After all, borborygmos is red.

    Round 2: Living End (2-1) W
Game 1: We both do our things. I turn out to be faster, and don't get comboed out.
Game 2: This was honestly a pretty loose keep from me. 4 lander, with 2 dorks and a lord. I drew two more lands, and got wiped by a t4 living end. Just couldn't recover.
Game 3: I have a 3 lander, with a dork, heritage, nettle and lord. Drew a scooze off the top, but I play a little bit more conservatively, and it pays off. He living ends while i have nettle, dork and archdruid in play, getting back two deadshot minotaur + shriekmaw + that *****ty esper one. I respond with another nettle, heritage + dwynen's elite. I take the first swing from him, but the next turn i drop a scavenging ooze and get it to a 4/4. He can't push enough damage through, and i keep him off getting another living end. Eventually I build a stable board and kill him.
I took out a visionary, chord + spellskite for a scooze + lead the stampede, didn't see lead but scooze was huge game 3. almost making a case for 2 in the board.
    Round 3: Naya Burn (2-0) W
Honestly, there's not much to say about either of these games. I don't know how my opponent got to 2-0, because this was quite literally the worst burn player I've ever faced. Like, fetch a tapped shock at the end of my turn so as to not hurt their life total turn 1 and 2. t3 goblin guide + boros charm is cute, but not when I'm threatening 20+ damage with ezuri. Maybe the keeps were loose on his part, but this was really, really strange.
Typical burn sideboard, out comes 2-3 visionaries, 3 chords for some combination of finks, scooze + forgetenders. This has been my go-to strategy against burn and i have no problem facing it. Thanks to newmodern for suggesting that a few pages back.

    Round 4: Suicide zoo (0-2) L
Game 1 was really close, but i made a bit of a mistake. I had a decent board by turn 4, 2 mana up, 4 elves + ezuri, with archdruid +nykthos in hand. My opponent is at 10. he has 2 steppe lynx, 2 deaths shadow, and a swiftspear. He comes in with the 3/3 shadows and the swiftspear, fetchland up. I block only one shadow and one swiftspear with dorks, so i can regenerate them with themselves and crackback next turn for the win. he fetches, shocks and uses mutagenic growth + temur battlerage on swiftspear. I was at 14. It was probably a mistake to not block the shadow and lose an elf.
Game 2: this really wasn't a game, i mulled to 5 and my 2 creatures just died. I died on turn 4 with 3 lands in play, chord, chord and collected company in hand.
I brought in kitchen finks + scooze for the visionaries. I'm disappointed i didn't get to see them, because i don't expect to play this match up often.

In all the deck performed well, I made some mistakes but i hope to learn from them. Scooze was an allstar, though it probably helped that i played against a bunch of graveyard decks. Considering a second in the board.
