I have recently gotten a linux machine, and installed mws. It worked fine (except for the die roll function), then I upgraded my wine, and it broke the play module. My side of the field is grey, and it extends to the life counter and mana counters. Cards show up in my hand, and I can move them to the battlefield, but they leave afterimages, wherever I move them to, there's an exact copy the card there afterwards. It's basically unusable. If someone could tell me how to fix this, and possibly also fix the die roll function (which still doesn't work) it would be much appreciated. I asked over on Wine HQ, and their only suggestions so far have been to downgrade wine back to what I had, which is unacceptable, because the upgrade was how I got a more important program to stop crashing, and to try reinstalling, which I did, but it didn't help. I'm running 0.94f, and tried upgrading to 0.97 from the mwsgames site. It didn't help.
EDIT:I went back to winehq, and they told me to run regression testing and file a bug report. The regression testing article is very confusing, but I'm trying to follow it. Any help from someone else who has encountered similar problems would be appreciated.
I definitely second Psychatog as a possible Wincon/grave manipulation. You will NEVER get it back from Tasigur, though. But, I think that's fine. If you draw it, it wins for you. If not, your opponents have less things they're willing to give you from activations. I don't see the downside in running more cards they don't want to give you. I would also consider Vraska. Her first ability is possible creature removal. Her second is awesome. And her final will let you take down more than one opponent which may be necessary
So, I don't know when the last time OP was updated was, but last I checked Deathrite shaman was banned in Modern. I'm looking to get into this deck. Should I just replace it with Birds?
So, I built this deck on MWS, and have playtested it 1v1 online and in goldfishes.
It does pretty well in both, but I'm concerned about getting it on paper because I feel it lacks the umph needed to get there in multiplayer EDH, which is what my friends and I primarily play. I'm happy with the overall function, and would be happy to explain any card choices. I'm just looking for minor tweaks to help this deck funtion in a multiplayer meta that sits on the borderline between competitive and casual, and errs on the side of casual when in doubt.
You just need to wrap it in deck tags, and give every card its own line with a number before it. This was also probably the wrong forum for this, but if you edit the title to include your commanders name and first post to include your deck, you should be good.
A decent creature that kind of synergizes with a lot of the multicolored spells you have would be Lobber Crew. I run a Lord of Riots, and if crew is in my opening hand, turn 4 usualy means a decent 2 damage to all my opponents
Which, in a four or five man game lets you drop any colorless creature below 7-9 mana for free. Specifically because of stuff like that I'd consider Wurmcoil Engine, Duplicant, Steel Hellkite, Ulamog's Crusher, hell I can even see reason to run Thopter Assembly. Honestly, I'm surprised I don't see more Eldrazi either. I'm working on a Lord of Riots deck myself, and saw no reason not to include all the colorless Eldrazi.
Being that I am working on Lord of Riots myself, I'd like to know how yours does. Do you have any consistency issues? What's your (rough) win rate? What's the earliest turn (with no interference) you can reasonably win on? What turn do games tend to end with this deck on board? Do you have a problem dealing with other peoples big threats?
Granted, all that is meaningless without one question being answered-How competitive is your meta?
All in all, though, I like the deck, and think you should flesh out the first post and apply for primer status. We need a good primer for a non-combo Rakdos(color scheme).
I feel like there are too many weak or non-synergistic choices in here to condone the [Competitive] tag.
-- Skirsdag High Priest - Contrivance just to get a 5/5 flyer isn't amazing in EDH.
-- Ob Nixilis, the Fallen - Not bad, not amazing, not really relevant to Shirei's game plan
-- Seizan, Perverter of Truth - Black has plenty of CA... not sure what the Howling Mine effect is really for.
-- I used to run Workhorse in my old Shirei deck but it got cut after a while, as the mana curve doesn't really demand much more mana once you're able to cast 6.
-- Death Cultist. Bit weak.
-- Overeager Apprentice. Shirei should have a nice curve... tossing cards to be in a rush doesn't seem worth it.
-- Chimney Imp. Expensive for what he does.
-- Ravenous Rats. Doesn't have its own sac outlet; one person tosses a card of their choice. Not really powerful in multiplayer.
-- Gnawing Zombie. Slow for what it does.
-- Gangrenous Zombies. Weak in most metas. Maybe not yours.
Based on these comments, I removed the competitive tag. Also, around this time I had a discussion with my playgroup about Contamination, because I was contemplating it here, and we decided to ban it, for the same reasons we banned Blood Moon, Back to Basics, and Ruination, being that it does the same thing as all of these, but in most cases will be stronger.
Also, in the interest of making the deck more functional and closer to [Competitive] made these changes
Attrition would be great in here. Gate to Phyrexia acts similarly if you have a problem with artifacts, which black decks tend to have. Sorin Markov to bring someone down to 10 is always good, since most of your critters are little and won't attack for much. Smokestack would be awesome, since you can sac multiple creatures per turn and get them back and others would be saccing other permanents. I'd give Shirei indestructible with Darksteel Plate so when someone wraths you don't lose all your creatures. Diabolic Intent serves as Demonic Tutor #2. Bottle Gnomes gains you 3 life each upkeep. Soldevi Adnate is great for mana, and can sac itself and just come right back. Bone Shredder is by far the best piece of tech that's missing here though.
Attrition: I like it. Might find it's way in.
Gate to Phyrexia: This is a must, will find space for it.
Sorin Markov: Feels too cheap.
Smokestack: This is a must, will find space for it. (I had it in my original list, before I cut down to 100, and don't even remember cutting it)
Darksteel Plate: Love this card, have since it came out. Couldn't find space for it though. Drops?? (Not a must, but I'd like it.)
Diabolic Intent: This is a must, will find space for it.
Bottle Gnomes: Already in deck.
Soldevi Adnate: Not my style. Decent card, though, if you like my list, and wanna run this, I'd cut Workhorse for it
Bone Shredder: This is a must, will find space for it.
What would you cut for the identified musts? EDIT: Found drops for everything.
Also, what if anything would you guys suggest I drop for Possessed Portal? I feel like I could easily play through it, and it absolutely wrecks people who aren't prepared.
In a four-way game, I was playing my Talrand deck, and one of my friends played it in his white Mikaeus deck, (He's pretty new to Magic, and thought the card looked fun.), no one could answer it, and it proceeded to destroy the entire table. It cost me a game I probably would have won, because by the time he finally sacced it to itself the only player who had enough resources to rebuild was the Riku player.
This was one of the biggest building challenges I've ever faced, and much help was gotten from the Primer. All in all, it's a solid deck that I'm happy with, but not something I ever want to do again.
A simple stax deck.
EDIT: Removed Competitive tag. Wish there was a semi-competitive tag. This is not the most competitive version of this deck possible, but is more competitive than casual.
A pretty general goodstuff/toolbox Riku deck. I was aiming for a more creature heavy build. My mana-base is weighted toward green so I can cast my ramp spells consistently, and Orochi Leafcaller is there to fix mana discrepancies made by that weight, and allow me to filter mana from Citanul Hierophants
As someone who has played Rhys quite a bit and have a very competitive version I hope I can chime in. Though it hurts to not see Elesh Norn and Craterhoof for win cons I understand your going low power. Mentor of the Meek is very good in Rhys be sure to fit this in. A flat out awesome card with token generation is Champion of Lambholt, can win games very quickly. Every GW token deck should have a Glare of Subdual in there as well. Mirror Entity can be another wincon, and you forgot one the most awesome token generators in Hero of Bladehold.
I noticed your deck is lacking GY interaction, I'd at least put an Ooze in there, way more versatile then Intrepid Hero (which generates no tokens).
Norn and Craterhoof are fine, I just forgot them originally, I'll pick them up. No one I know really considers either degenerate, even in lists like this. I am considering Mentor, just not sure what I'd drop for it. I like Champion too, and again, will find a place for it. I don't really care for Glare, it's one of those cards that's either degenerate or useless, never in a happy middle-ground. I don't like Hero for this deck, mainly because Battle Cry is overkill with the sheer volume of tokens I make, and her token generation is slow and dependent on entering the red zone, which is negative politically. As for Ooze, which one??? I'm assuming Scavenging in which case, due to low gy-value in my meta, I'd rather have the removal engine. If your meta is more gy deck heavy, it's perfect, and Hero is a logical drop.
