I find this new trend of making the females all covered up and ugly really dumb.
Ive been annoyed with the way theyve changed the art work were they feel a need make a lot of female art work bland and make them less beautiful. Also making Its not all bad like i really like Judith's and the new teysas art but there just seems to be alot more bland pieces nowadays and some are even cards like legendary creatures like new radha or admiral Becket brass. Also the whole thing where a bunch of female characters look like dudes i dumb to. like Why would even feminists want the girls to look like dudes dont they want more female representation. I just find the decline in art kindof sad because the cool art was part of what drew me in. And i also really liked the cool female character but im much less likeley to care about characters whose cards have bland art and design.
I'm sorry in advance for butchering your post, but it's for space saving, not an attempt to misrepresent what you said.
I am also a female player, so I do feel I bring my own perspective to this, but I want to specifically touch on the bolded points here.
As a predominantly commander player, I have a deep connection to both the character and the artwork of the decks I play. I get very in to the lore behind the creatures I make my generals (well, as much as I'm able to, at least) and I have a big thing for only running art I personally find attractive and aesthetically pleasing for my generals. Whereas you've mentioned Grand Warlord Radha among the kinds of cards you dislike, I absolutely adore the likes of her and Saskia the Unyielding. I find the concept of a gorgeous, badass warrior woman deeply attractive. And that's the point of having a more diverse range of characters.
While you find characters like Liliana and Teysa appealing, they come off as rather dull and uninspired to me, as the niches they fill are ones that, for a very long time, have been extremely common aesthetics in gaming. And I'm bored of it. But on the flip side, I find a lot more of the buff and conservative characters stunning. And it's okay for both of us to like these things, and I appreciate that there has been more of a balance to both sides of the coin in recent sets. It means that a wider ranger of people are more likely to find something they enjoy, and as a whole, I find that to be extremely beneficial.
You made my cube cry. Besides, I need to perfect it so that I can convince Sheldon to draft it. One time and he is sure to either add a lot more cards to the ban list or take a bunch off.
Having played your cube, I somehow feel it would be the former.
Bazaar of Baghdad. I have so many deck ideas that could really benefit from it, but I was a little late to the party on getting one before it's price spiraled out of control.
Other than that, I'd kill to have a full playset of all of the ABUR duals (especially even one copy of the ones I'm missing like Volcanic Island or Tropical Island).
I'm stoked for new Teysa. I've been looking to make an Orzhov deck for a while, and this of fits in with where I kind of wanted the deck to go perfectly.
Being bad at standard doesn't mean you don't understand deckbuilding. Being good at standard means requires complete knowledge of the specific deck you are playing and how to optimally play it, knowing the metagame so you can recognize what an opponent is doing and know how best to counter/respond to it and being really good at sideboarding. It's a very specific set of skills, and it does not carry over very much into formats like EDH, draft, sealed or cube.
Personally, I find playing standard about as interesting as watching plants grow. This is one reason why I don't care at all about Arena.
It's more that I'm poor at evaluating cards in a limited pool format as well as constructing around cards from sets I have previously not paid attention to (other than the like 1% of cards I wanted for EDH). Threat evaluation, tempo, and strategies are completely foreign to me, so I am bad at standard.
As far as deck building goes, it's a combination of not knowing cards (or how to deal with 4 ofs) and the fact that I'm actually just bad in general, but EDH is varied enough that I can pretend I'm good.
Arena has forced me to realize that I'm just bad at standard. I need them to throw Brawl in there so that I can go back to pretending I know what I'm doing with deck building.
Though I would have preferred an actual name rather than just "75%", I do appreciate the additions. I am going to go through my lists and add the 75% tag to hopefully offer a bit of categorization to my lists.
Thanks
No problem! It unfortunately came down to whether we wanted a "better" sounding name, or if we wanted something with a more universally accepted meaning, and because we want the tags to be a bit more universal, we ended up going with the second option to make the tag itself more useful.
I really wanted Lazav to work, but this isn't the right deck for it. Yuriko, on the other hand has been a great source of early draw. While this deck has no way to trigger it super often, it does have a higher curve, so even a couple of swings is generally a nice amount of pressure. Also, she's pretty.
