Looks pretty good actually. What are everyone's thoughts?

This is quite decent, I actually quite love this card thanks for sharing.

In my opinion white is the best Sideboard/Support color in magic, if you want one color that is currently bad it's green.

Green only good cards are either multicolored or it's tarmogoyf. Green used to be played back when Pod was a thing, sadly it got hit by a perma ban.

The problem with the Pike is that there are cards that do the same thing for cheaper. You have Myth Realized for W, which becomes a creature until end of turn with the Pike effect for another W. You also have Enigma Drake for 1RU which has the Pike effect on the power side of things.

Nykthos is, in my opinion, begging to be put into a Relentless Rats deck alongside Thrumming Stone. There's probably better ways to build it than my list, however

Relentless Rats is fun until all of your copies are exiled.

I'm just gonna come and talk about aMSa and Yoshi for a sec. Amsa's never dominated a tournament or the scene in general. Melee is a strange esport because of how little in the way of major upsets there are. In fact, every major tournament in the past few years has been won by one of the Melee gods or the two godslayers Leffen/Plup. That's literally 7 players who've won everything in the past 10 years barring like one exception. Amsa's great, he's currently ranked 24th, and he's a ton of fun to watch. That being said, he isn't a dominant player, and Yoshi isn't that strong of a character.

Yoshi typically ends up around 12th on a tier list. Yes, that's a lot higher than Yoshi was ranked, and yeah aMSa is the reason. Yoshi has a lot of unexplored potential that players recognize. Parry is such a powerful and unique ability that lets him do some crazy things. One big thing going for Yoshi is the fact it's impossible to find good Yoshi players to practice against. Especially since aMSa's from Japan, he can come over and spike tournaments because people aren't prepared for the matchup.

aMSa is a lot like Bogles as a deck. Both attack on different angles than others do, and both are relatively uncommon. They can spike tournaments when people don't expect it, but people always know it's a thing. Yoshi, like Bogles, are never high up on the tier lists. And honestly, that makes sense. Tier lists aren't solely "what is the best deck to play", but also "what decks are my opponent's playing". Up until very recently, you were probably okay playing a deck that would auto lose to Bogles because you wouldn't run into it.

Now, you're basically saying we shouldn't have a tier list until we have perfect matchup data. That requires us to find a perfect pilot for every deck, have the player know how to play against every deck, and then have them play a large enough sample set. That's just completely infeasible. You're basically never going to get data you can feel good about in order to show matchup data. Especially since MTGO has to be one of the primary data sources, you just aren't finding good enough data for it to be reliable.

Ken knows this last point well, as I've seen some of the posts he's made on extensive matchup testing. In fact, I recall one in the 8Rack thread where he did a pile of plays on the play/draw in pre/post-board matchups after they had determined how both sides should play the matchup. It was a great read because he put in a few hours of testing to find the data he needed.

I know that amsa isnt the best melee player the point was mostly to show how he pushed a character out of a tier by his skill alone.

I agree on your idea of finding proper pilot to play decks and find match up in this matter, sadly there is about 25+ active decks that has potential of being relevant in the current meta.We could easily identify the 10 most played decks (day 2 or top 16) but we still would require a large amount of games to end up with decent data, it is indeed possible and we do have quite some time before the next unbans/bans to play it out.

Sadly I am a paper player so I don't own any deck on MTGO, I was thinking about using alternative in the form of what tappedout offer with the playtest option and play games against myself doing the optimal line of play with both decks. I used to play chess against myself a lot back then and it did help in raising my elo in chess.

I think an hundred games per match up would be a valid starting point, it might seem arbitrary but it's a large enough sample to easily work it out.

The only thing that I am afraid comes from the sideboard choice, should we only run the sample on Game 1 or only on Game 2(3)?

Jund list is pretty stock but there is some variety in the sideboard mostly per say 2 cards against X deck or 3 could change the data quite a lot.

Even with the sideboard issue I would agree that it is the best current way to obtain viable data to build a tier list from.

I don't know why they ranked Jund and Tron so high but I think it's based on MTGO result as well since it takes every top 8.

It's been said in the past that mtgo do not reflect big event.

    11 5c Humans
    9 Affinity
    8 Hollow One
    8 Blue Moon (breach)
    6 U/W Control
    5 Scapeshift
    5 Burn
    5 Storm
    5 Jund
    5 GTron
    4 Dredge
    4 Bogles
    4 Grixis Death's Shadow
    3 Eldrazi
    3 Ad Nauseam

This list is the count of deck with more than 3 showing since GP Phoenix according to the same data ktkenshinx linked.

Christ. Why did we want the Tier list back again? It might legitimately be the most misused and misunderstood tool available to competitive Modern players. I think the mistake might be in giving them a numerical rating. Too many people seem to identify it as how effective a deck is, which to the best of my knowledge the tier list was never really meant to directly analyze (here on MTGS, anyway). If people really need a new way of dissecting the modern meta, maybe it should be a rarity list, like... Common, Uncommon, Rare, Mythic tier decks based on how often you can expect to run into those decks?

I'll take a good tier list to show just how poor a tier list really represent a meta:

In Super Smash Bros Melee, Yoshi used to be considered a low tier pick but a japanese player by the name of aMSa by himself made Yoshi raise in tier by destroying event with it. It's good to consider that Melee never received any patch since it's a game cube game and thus at one point Yoshi was considered bad while the same version is now considered a viable pick in the right hand. Yoshi was ranked 20 out of 26 and climbed to 12 out of 26 in the last version I can find.

In MTG there is a Team Phenomenon where highly skilled player sit down and decide on which deck the team should play, Channel Fireball is an example of such team commonly running up to 8+ times the same deck piloted by skilled player. This should indeed show that if such team decide to play Human, well human will thus have a really good showing on day 2. The next event they might run Jund and all of a sudden Jund gets a good showing on day 2 etc.

This thus imply that since a proper tier list is based on result (and it's probably the best neutral approach to construct a list) there could always low key have a deck like WR control that could possibly be the best deck but since no one really play that archetype it's sometimes show up at some event and people do not take notice. I do not think WR control is great it was simply an example.

The best way to really observe a viable list is then to include Match Up which are really hard to get at the moment. With Match up we could easily do the math to obtain the median winrate and say for sure that X deck against a field of 1 of each deck has 50% chances to win the event.

BUT THEN again, let's say Jund is commonly seen as having 50% win rate against the field what happen if a deck has 60% win rate against the field meta? We can never really get any competitive edge with a tier list and the sole purpose of such list should be to identify which deck are worth investing in when looking to buy a new deck and makes for easy entry point for new player to at least understand which decks are dominant and which decks are currently lacking.

I love tier list and I feel that without Match up data we cannot really build one.

Since unban the list look something like this in order of appearance based on top 16

    11 5c Humans
    9 Affinity
    8 Hollow One

    Tier 2
    Affinity

    Tier 3
    Humans
    Hollow One

This is the part that people have a disconnect with. When you put the top performing decks at lower tiers of play, the logic doesnt work out.

It's not my list it's mtgtop8 list you fraud can you read a bit more ffs.

You guys are baddies, I've got the same damn info anyway I'm out, the list you say have more potential take the exact same data that I have except it's not only based on event post unban thus mine is more accurate for the current meta.

    11 5c Humans
    9 Affinity
    8 Hollow One
    8 Blue Moon (breach)
    6 U/W Control
    5 Scapeshift
    5 Burn
    5 Storm
    5 Jund
    5 GTron
    4 Dredge
    4 Bogles
    4 Grixis Death's Shadow
    3 Eldrazi
    3 Ad Nauseam

But since we came to the conclusion that you guys can't read might aswell stop posting and theory craft on my side.

I've said plenty of time that this list was GP phoenix and up.

Adding MTGTOP8 into the mix got me the last list that people disliked so now that you see data and the list in this order you'll probably enjoy it more.

Note that Grixis Death's Shadow is still low.

Again this is MTGTOP8 tier list based on a lot more data including some local event and mtgo:

    Tier 1

    GTron
    Jund

    Tier 2

    Eldrazi
    Affinity

    Tier 3

Red Deck Wins (12-14 creature burn)
    UW Control
    Humans
    Death's Shadow
    GR Ponza
    Hollow One

If anyone reply aggressively I'll ignore them.

I've long and long again page on a way to show you a list if you not happy with it go win a tourney and change it.

I work on various take of g nykthos, the 4 devotion deck works great as a big zoo with a finish with kessig.

The idea is that I feel we are trying to TurboNykthos meaning that the stock list is mostly trying to overclock nykthos by playing bad cards for the sake of generating the most devotion per turn. It's a valid strat for sure but what if instead you could establish control over a game by out grinding your opponent and eventually Nykthos kick in and you win with the large tempo gain off the eventual mana boost.

I'm pretty sure Tireless Tracker would be amazing with Awakening , Avenger of Zendikar become back breaking etc.

The issue is that those cards might be more consistent but less explosive:

    Boundless Realms Explosive Vegetation

And there is also the fact that this deck would eventually turn into Scapeshift real quick.
    -

But something that I did find out is the following:

    Turn 1 : Arbor Elf
Turn 2 : Sakura Tribe Elder
    Turn 3 : 5 Mana

    vs

    Turn 1 : Arbor Elf
    Turn 2 : 2 Devotion creature
    Turn 3 : 4 Mana with Nykthos ( 2 Land + Nykthos (3 devotion) + Arbor Elf)

    Makes you think right?

    AND THEN

The first deck could still run Nykthos and would eventually have 4 Devotion.

I just really love Kitchen Finks and Thragtusk, both are pretty much the same card and they feel really strong at the moment.

    Animist's Awakening

This card could allow a different take on mono green ramp. Playing with a good portion of your deck with land only this card could ramp for quite alot and untapping these lands means it could potentially serve as a pseudo Ritual and would also be a lot more resilient to hate compared to maintaining enough devotion for nykthos to be worth it.

I could see something in the line of a deck running half lands, having a really high curve starting at 5 for creature with the goal to quickly generate land drop and then progressing into chaining cards like Thragtusk,Primeval Titan, Woodland Bellower. The deck in my current iteration would be quite fair simply looking at going over midrange deck by playing highly costed creature everyturn by turn 4. There is currently a large amount of Midrange strategy being played and it should easily win against Jundesque deck.

The card could also be played with Nykthos since its written : Put all Land cards.

For example the deck could pull off something in the line off:

Turn 1: Mana Dork (Arbor elf or Utopia Sprawl) with the high number of land cards like Enter the Unknown could also be quite interesting same for Caravan Vigil sadly they require condition to work.

Turn 2: Sakura-Tribe Elder or Explore

Turn 3: At this point you should have 5 Mana which would allow you to cast Thragtusk on turn 3, which is pretty good against fair deck. It will also allow you to cast Animist's Awakening for X = 4 potentially ramping for 2 lands if half the deck are lands allowing for 8 mana on turn 4 which is quite good.

Obviously with so many land it be hard to always have a creature in hand but it's where cards like Commune with Nature and/or even Commune with Dinosaurs allow to dig for creature and play them on the same turn.Commune with the Gods is also fairly decent since at the moment I ended the curve at 6 thus translating into the probability of casting Commune with the Gods into Primeval Titan on turn 4.

I don't have a decklist as of now. I was simply showing a possibility to play the deck in a different fashion, Nykthos would still be played since generating 4 devotion would not be so hard once we start casting our big mana creature.

Tl:Dr: This deck aim to win against midrange.

    Edit:

    The deck win against Burn
I'd say 50% against Eldrazi and Tron
Lose to Affinity if you cannot ramp into a turn 3 Creeping Corrosion
    Win against UW control
Go way bigger than Humans but I haven't tested it yet.
Death Shadow should be quite viable also but in the harder match up.
With all the land ramp Ponza simply can't really hurt us, Plow Under could be back breaking since Commune would only look for 3.
Hollow One is not such a great deck and I feel some Kitchen Finks would be quite decent against it.
Lose to every combo deck from lack of interaction.

I have a working list at the moment and I'll soon post it.

I feel like Nykthos is quite Decent positioned at the current and for the Usual list I suggest maining Kitchen Finks since it is quite good against most deck being played right now and it buys a lot of time.

Recently i just read an old article about Mono Green Devotion from 2014 . In the End he write something about a neat combo.
Knight of the Reliquary + Arena . I think its do little more as Inkmoth Nexus. We have the big Mana and big creatures, to get a real use from this support card.

This is super interesting I'll loook into it thanks!

I would -2 Ninth Bridge Patrol and +2 Nantuko Husk for sure.

    -4 Resourceful Return
    -1 Necromantic Thirst
    -1 Harsh Sustenanceà
    -3 Dictate of Erebos
    -1 Secure the Wastes
    -1 Zulaport Cutthroat
    -4 Ornithopter

These cards all feel really weak, while there is obvious synergy you should not be running cards that are worth 4+ mana like Necromantic Thirst simply because in modern you should be looking to win as early as turn 4 or at least have answer to a turn 4 win and Necromantic Thirst would be quite a good card if the game would last for 200 turns but you simply won't get much value out of it and would have better success running an other creature card instead of trying to recur some.

I would suggest to look at UW token that is an archetype that can be fairly budget that look to accomplish similar goals and might be in your playstyle.

Here's what a budget (under or near 100$ deck) could look like:

This is not perfect but should give you a guide line to build your deck, Hidden Stockpile isn't quite good enough for modern.

I would suggest investing in some Discard effect like Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek (3 of each)

You can also fit some Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant to gain an impressive amount of life per turn with some Ajani's Pridesmate . Serra Ascendant is also a valid option if you going in the Soul Sister deck, I would also look into Martyr Proc if you want to get into this archetype.

True it might be too late, I have a list that can generate turn 3 bring to light.

The issue is that I'm running a really huge amount of mana ramp but it does give me 5 colored mana on turn 3 a majority of the time.

I also run this list which is quite similar but has less bullet and more Thragtusk since the life gain allow for longer games.I really love Wood Elves for the synergy with Restauration Angel but also serve as a nice body to sacrifice with Evolution.

Young Wolf is a nice addition, maybe I'll swap the Wild Nacalt for 1 Narnam Renegade (4 Young Wolf 1 Narnam or vis versa, Narnam as Deathtouch but Young Wolf is resilient)

I'll add Young Wolf and Jadelight Ranger to the primer, Ajani's Presence is quite nice for the indestructible and can easily save your field against wipe.

Been testing with Thrive but I still prefer blossoming defense. Vines of Vastwood is also really strong and Aspect of Hydra is also quite decent but I rather have the ability to protect my devotion.

I think the list is fairly decent, I would not mind having a tiny bit more interaction.. I might try to fit a banefire in.

I really enjoy Tireless Tracker for the pure card advantage it brings, if we ever flood on mana we can use it to draw + with knight of the reliquary you can easily get many clues per turn if you ever on the grind game.

    I might try 12 1-drop

    Edit:

no 1-drop and more 2 drop. The issue I find is that it is quite valuable to have a turn 1 creature, most of them either stay 1/1 and doesnt deal that much damage for example:

    T1 1cmc drop
    T2 1cmc deal 1 2cmc drop
    T3 1cmc dealt 2 2cmc deal 2
    T4 1cmc dealt 3 2cmc dealt 4

Which also conclude that Narnam while not being as resilient has more potential over Young Wolf if running a 9 1-drop list since she start at 2, evolution one will also be effectively be 2 and can easily climb to 3 and 4.
    =

In conclusion I feel like the deck does have potential but we still have to work on the list for it to shine. I feel we have the proper card choice and will eventually get new cards to add to the deck with Dominaria releas but we need to work on the mana curve to ensure that we have the optimal use of our mana every turn.
