Just a heads up for anyone interested, the tournament is scheduled for Saturday December 27th. I had to go with the saturday after Christmas because there is a D&D event the previous Saturday.

Cost is $15 with the following prizes:

    1st: Lion's Eye Diamond
    2nd: Dark Depths
    3rd: Umezawa's jitte
    4th: Sensei's Divining Top

One or more of the owners of Battlezone bowed out, and as such the store had to downsize in space in order to stay viable. I'm curious myself as to how that will affect their tournaments, but considering that the States tournaments have moved to Des Moines this fall, I don't think it looks good. Frown

I am currently working on scheduling a Legacy Tournament for December at the Core in Cedar Falls. I am curious as to what would work better for people, the Saturday BEFORE Christmas, or the Saturday AFTER? Or possibly even something weird like on New Years Day (It's a Thursday)?

For prizes I am thinking on the following:

    1st: Lion's Eye Diamond
    2nd: Dark Depths/Mox Opal (undecided)
    3rd: Umezawa's jitte
    4th: Sensei's Divining Top

I would be interested in your guy's feedback on the dates and prizes. Unfortunately, with the rise in Dual Lands, offering them as prizes would require, what I feel, to be a high entry fee/threshold of players. With whats selected above, I can keep it at $15/8 players. As always, 100% of entry fees go to prizes, so with a high turnout the potential is still there.

I won't be able to schedule the date through WER until around Halloween, so I'll check back by then and take your guy's opinions into consideration.

It should be noted that Wizards provides 2 packs per player (or at least what they expect you to have based on previous attendance) for pre-releases. Though, not quite. Sometimes I get shorted a bit based on how it rounds out to 36. So basically, if your store gets more people than they use to, they may not even have enough prize packs to hand out 2 per person. Now usually you are allowed to buy a couple extra boxes, but those cost money as opposed to the free ones Wizards provides, so the store may be reluctant to give those away. (Though, if they are charging more than $25, they should)

$25 at a pre-release should get you your pre-release pack, and 2 packs per player in the prize pool (however they decide to distribute that).

We hand out 3 packs per player, cause we can normally handle it. Everyone gets 1 pack for participating, and then the rest are split between the top x cut (4, or 8 usually).

    Hey ALL!

I made a new thread, I hope that was ok.

We will be hosting a 2nd Legacy for Dual Lands tournament on Sunday April 13th at 11am for $20.

Our last tournament pulled in 22 people, and we ended up giving out about $500 is prizes. I scheduled this one a few hours earlier because a couple people expressed that it would make the travel times more practical for them.

Here's a flyer we made with all the details:

And here is a Facebook event page with the details. If you have any questions asking there will result in the quickest response.

    https://www.facebook.com/events/1425567841013638/

I'll copy and paste the details here:
Once again we will be rocking the Legacy Format with another Dual Lands Tournament!!!

    1st Place: Volcanic Island
    2nd Place: Badlands
    3rd Place: Plateau

*Prizes are contingent on 8 people, 100% of the entry fees from any participants past 8 will be added to the prize pool. All prizes are redeemable for store credit and can be exchanged for different dual lands or any other store product.

Registration starts at 10 am. Players are encouraged to pre-register, and deck lists will be required. You can download one here: http://www.wizards.com/dci/downloads/constructed_decklist.pdf

    Entry Fee is $20

The 1st round begins at 11am. We will play at least 3 rounds (more if the # of players warrant it), and will then break off into the Top X players for prizes. (16+ players will have a Top 8, Less than 16 will result in a Top 4).

Again, if you have any questions feel free to ask, Thanks to all the people that came last time, and I hope to see you again with a few new faces!!

P.S. I also still plan on attending a dual lands legacy tournament at Battlezone on Feb. 22nd if any you can make that I will see you there! here's a link for that event, also on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/519665491474826/

    Hey again!

First off, thanks to everyone that came out to our last Legacy for Duals tournament a few weeks ago. It was a pretty good success, we had 22 players and handed out 2 Tundra's, a Scrubland, and a Taiga, along with about $100 in store credit for other finishers.

We will be holding another one, on Sunday April 13th. This time we are going to aim at starting at 11am instead of 1 pm. I had gotten some interest from people living 3+ hours away, and starting earlier will make the drive home not so late should any of those people decide to make it this time around.

Here is the Prize Pool I have lined up for it:

    1st Place: Volcanic Island
    2nd Place: Badlands
    3rd Place: Plateau

Same jist as before, prizes are contingent on having 8 players, 100% of entry fees past 8 players will be added to the prize pool, and all prizes can be redeemed in store credit to instead get a different dual land, or anything else in the store if you so desire.

I've again, made a Facebook event with all the details. I'll post back with the flyer when we have one made up as well.

    https://www.facebook.com/events/1425567841013638

Thanks again, and I hope to see some of you in April!!

P.S. I plan on going to the tournament at Battlezone in Feb. so hopefully i'll meet some of you there as well!

    HI ALL!

My name is David, and i run the mtg events at the Core in CF. One of my players told me he was sharing our event with you guys so i thought I'd pop in and say hi and see if you guys had any questions?

The basic deets have been covered, But I also created a facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/658629597520924/

Any new updates and such will be posted there, also if anyone has any questions, asking there would get the quickest reply from me.

We have 3 duals set aside for the top 3 players (based on 8 people participating). If we get at least 12 people (very likely, our last event had 12) we can hand out duals to the top 4 players. All prizes will be exchangeable for store credit, so if you don't want the one offered to your position you are more than welcome to buy another dual land we have in stock (or anything else in the store). The prize payout will also increase with each participation. All entry fees will be added to the prize pool in their entirety.

I'll also mention that at least 1 of our L1 Judges will be there as well.

That should cover the info for this event, and I'll add that we try to host a legacy event about every 3 months.

Limited Edition, also in CF has been running legacy events every Saturday (as others have noted). I went to the one last Saturday. They charge $5, start around 10:30-11ish, and you can use up to 10 proxies for cards you don't own.

When i was there, there were 8 of us (with a few of their regulars missing), with a pretty even mix of people who seemed to know what they were doing, and some that are getting into it. They did 3 rounds of swiss and handed out 8 packs to the top 4 players. I don't believe they ever do single elimination rounds, they just go until one person is undefeated and hand out prizes based on ranking.

They also run Modern events afterwards, also for $5. I don't think they let people use proxies for that, but I'm not 100%. I didn't bring my modern deck so i wasn't able to stay.
