i wouldn't be surprise if it will make it someday because they release tons o graveyard hate also
Modern has a philosophy of being a turn 4 format. On top of that, we finally got Mox Opal and SSG banned, and Rite of Flame is banned as well. Dark Ritual will never enter the format.
Yeah this card speaks to old players like me because I was a child when Chronicles was printed, and those elder dragons were the baddest thing I could open in a booster pack. Players under 30 y.o. cannot understand the feels !
Be patient, we'll get a stronger version of this dragon in a core set, like they did with Chromium and co. Maybe before 2030 if we behave.
I don't think it could be printed at uncommon yet. Recruiter of the Guard is rare, and Fierce Empath is significantly worse than both recruiters. Maybe in 2030.
I love this reprint, I think it's harsh to consider it a dick move. It was completely unexpected to see this card reprinted for Modern. I'll take it.
Overall this set is absolutely incredible, everyday my jaw falls down even closer to the ground.
The only Legacy deck I ever saw with Unmask is Dredge
Well you never faced Reanimator then.
Unmask can also be played in Buried Alive decks, so overall it's a support card for black combo shells that has a legit purpose in a format with Daze, FoW and FoN in every other game you play, if not Chalice or Thalia.
So I could see this played in a Vengevine shell or something...
In Modern, the pressure isn't that high. Gotta wait and see what black combos will rise with MH2. We already have a couple other black combo cards previewed...
Also, why is this an incarnation? It doesn't have a graveyard effect.
It has the name of an Incarnation, it fits the flavor. I don't recall Maro (or any dev) mention Incarnations have to be mechanically related to graveyards, even though they've been historically.
How do you fit 31 letters in a card name ? This is the most suspicious one for me. I suppose th'yd have to not name it after its actual name but rather like they did with the latest Liliana card.
The rest is believable, a little high on the "Modern Scale" for a couple cards, but nothing shocking.
I wanna try Sedgemoor Witch as an alt wincon in Legacy Buried Phoenix actually. It's cast off a Dark Ritual turn 1. I tried other dudes and it never goes well (Bob, YP, TNN, Forager, Opp Agent, etc...). Maybe this one is good enough.
Gift is clearly superior until they show us playing lessons is worthwhile in a white deck. We'll probably have to wait for the end of the year before white gets a tier-A removal again.
Void Winnower
Inkwell Leviathan
Blazing Archon
Sundering Titan
Platinum Emperion
Sphinx of the Steel Wind
Tidespout Tyrant
Ashen Rider
Platinum Angel
Agent of Treachery
Sphinx of the Final Word
Angel of Serenity
Chancellor of the Annex
Hornet Queen
Wurmcoil Engine
Any M11 Titan
...
Some of them have SB applications and don't win on the spot, but that's enough to let me think the legendary clause isn't much of an issue.

What an awful decision it would've been.

The cognitive dissonance is right there.

This set is gonna be wonderful.

Good joke.
