I am glad to see that we got an update to the primer, thank you lil_bolas. I am also glad to see that there is another person trying teachings. I personally prefer the teachings route for my cruel control deck. I am in the process of trying out a few of the shadows cards but till i actually decide which ones i would like to test that is on the back-burner of getting them. I have mogis main board as a test spot atm. he so far hasn't disappointed me.

for the questions i know are coming, i do not have the cash for jace/snap and i lost my 4th bolt (yea you can laugh i find it funny as well when i had 8 of them). there are cards i am considering putting in like volcanic fall out, attempting to put back in usz, thopter/sword, fumerole, reality hemorage (for etched champion), combust (mainly for creatures i would suddenly need to off), more devour flesh, sundroplet (this crd is so awesome given time), disrupting shoal or pact of negation (hey free counters), complete disregard (it's an instant), more crumbles, discard, pyroclasm (i would prefer fallout over this), magma jets (for the scry), vapor snags, suffer the past (i really wanna slap this back in, it has won me games i had no business winning before), aetherspouts ,cyclonic rift ,darkblast, telling times (anticipate is probably better), reality shift, pia and kiran nalaar, devastation tides, virulent plague (if tokens become more perevalent), geth's verdicts (for more untargeted removal), a turn//burn, and some oddball wincons in the form of caustic tar, goblinslide, or skywise teachings. a land i want to try putting back in is ancient ruins for the thopter sword combo.

i know that is a lot of cards to consider but thopter sword is at the top of the list to get added in. if anyone has any questions about the card choices in the deck or what i plan on adding let me know.

edit: i completely forgot about anger of the gods, call the skybreaker ( i will admit this card is very weird in a control deck due to us wanting lands), silumgar's command and trying out a sphinx's tutelage.

i have beat g/r tron in a friendly match but damn was it hard. i have to say cryptics are our best answer against them preboard. I have resolved crumble to dust against them and still lost as well, but I also cast slaughter games naming newlamog afterward and won game 3. g/r is definatly not in our favor.

i played against mono u tron and i have to say its a lot easier to win against them, i play a teferi in the side. so much easier to deal with than g/r or at least the version i played against was.

against both shadow of doubt stopping early searching with maps was pretty good. late game it becomes less so unlesss they activate eye to search and you play it. it can also be used as a psuedo-sink-hole effect if they crack a fetch. i am seriously thinking about bumping shadow up to 4 lately.

other cards that help against them like lilbolas said are negate, hard counters, slaughter games(i believe, feel free to correct me if i am wrong), crumble, ANY planeswalker removal, some artefact removal(i play rakdos charm and vandalblast).

suffer the past is a card i have used before, won me quite a few games against burn i had no business winning. ultimately i took it out due to reasons that i forgot, i think i didnt have room for what i wanted. either way it might be a good thing to phase back in.

i run a teachings list personally so i don't know about others' form of card advantage but i usually end up playing as a draw-land-go deck and it becomes pretty reactive for me. for tap out type control decks that is not a good thing to be doing for lil bolas's deck list above the only card there that doesn't cantrip is cruel ultimatum. in mine it would probably be cruels and keranos, and 2 copies of aot jace. i am referring to the main deck btw not the side board.

What other forms of raw advantage do you run? i used to use a blue suns' zenith but i took it out after awhile i may put it back in soon. i find myself beginning to run out of a hand.

its easier on decks that cant cover bb early, there are a few games where having bb is a bit hard but usually i have it as well. i personally like geths verdict better, however bb usually means 2 blue lands are tapped as well in a lot of lists.

what do you mean by it is to heavy? if it is the cmc of teachings it has the same cmc of cryptic, and cryptic has a much harsher color restriction.

this is true, i usually use repeal for that though. i do have echoing truth in the side as well. my main issue with rift is the the overload is 7 which against fish is a huge pain. consume the meek costs 2 less and gets rid of them. downside to that is that it needs 5 mana where rift can be used for 2 in a pinch.

also what is the ultra rod?

My only suggestion for magicvanory would be on the inclusion of a mystical teachings. maybe move the anger or damnation to the side and put in the teachings. one card to take out if your going that rout would be the rakdos charm. Just my suggestion, i personally play a teachings centric list. i don't get to play it to often but i usually have a decent game against everything but fish. For some reason i always get my counter spells when they have a vial and no removal at all.

Bolas i am really happy to see i am not the only one still using keranos and mogis, must say the inclusion of devastation tide in the side could really help against a few decks. my only problem is i wish it was an instant.

well the crab is funny, and can be an alternate win con in some matches. so sideboard might be a better place for it as you said. I always get a laugh out of unexpected combos. the main advantage that the arbor has over traditional twin is that it is a bit harder to abrupt decay the creature it's gonna be attatched to. They can just hit the retreat but multiple copies mitigates this issue. In fact its probably better to have multiple copies before the deck goes off. insures redundency.

While the post is a durdle card, wouldnt academy ruins be better since you play blue? maybe both could be the better option. time to play test.

hello forums, it has been awhile. i am glad to see that someone else has moved to a teachings style list. i am interested in the fact that you choose to play with beseech the queen, though you do play a 4 color deck. any specific reason why you chose to run the esper charm, revelation, helix, and have the abrupt decay sitting in there?

i do not hate the list in fact it looks awesome. my main concern is the fact you get seriously hurt by your mana base.

military intelligence could be a cheaper bident. i tried it in a deck that had 4 ornithopter's some tokens and illussion angel. main problem was it did like nothing till i got out an angel or ensoul. it was basically monoblue devotion with military intelligence in it. it could work better for your deck though.

whelming wave isn't a bad one if your looking for bounce all creatures. there is a monoblue deck that someguy made a deck tech for on youtube he calls monoblue fog.
