So with all the new spirits being spoiled I had to start brewing, I've come up with a tempo list that I feel have a really good chance to be competitive.
As of now I really like how the list looks, I just need to flesh out some of the numbers. With that being said I feel like the flex slots in the deck are probably:
Niblis of the frost: 0-1 is probably the right number here. He can be good late game, but he's 4 mana and doesn't always immediately affect the board, I could see dropping him for another Captain.
Selfless Spirit: 1-3 I feel this is mainly a meta call if you're expecting a lot of removal in your meta game run more. I really like this guy because he lets up play a captain on curve without fear.
Familiar's Ruse: 0-1 It's a hard counter that we can use to generate a lot of advantage between rattlechains, snapcaster mage and Spell Queller but it feels bad in your opening hand.
Azorius charm: 0-2 I am really liking the two. The lifelink is relevant in this deck, worst case scenario it cycles, but it feels good tucking anglers.
The sideboard is still a work in progress I'll admit. At the moment it's just a bunch of broad answers, but I'm hoping more testing will help piece it together. I really think Spirits finally got the push it needs. I just want everyone's 2 cents on the deck and see if we can work on making it a high tiered deck.
Hey guys,
Do you think there's a way of keeping a similar theme, competitiveness but on a budget? I like boom/bust a lot, but requires fetches (I'm guessing)... Liliana is a bit steep for me and so is bitterblossom.
So, I guess the question is...
Are there other finishers that do the job like bitterblossom?
Is there another replacement for Lili (I know how good she is)?
Can the deck function without Boom/Bust, or is it viable with a higher land count but no fetches?
Thanks in advance,
Use young pyromaster to replace Bitterblossom if you want to play the boom version. He could probably be worked into the deck tbh. When you cast crack the earth or smallpox you get a token which you can sacrifice to them
Hey guys, haven't posted on this thread in a while but thought I would update you guys with my goblin list. 4-0'd last week with this list I played against UB Fae, Scapeshift, Burn and Hatebears.
I'm working on making space for a 3rd wardriver but I'm not sure what to remove.
I'm a huge advocate of the white splash. Thalia is just so good in so many matchups. Boros charm is great extra reach and an out to Pyro/Anger/Firespout and Kataki just blows out affinity.
I think between Phyrexian Arena and Read the bones this deck couldn't afford BB. Maybe Brizmad since he can live through bolt and leaves tokens behind.
What do you guys think of True-Name in place of shackles? He can block all day for you if you're under pressure and he can be a clock. The meta game I play in shackles is a pretty dead card. (Show&Tell, Tin fin, Painter Servant, MUD and ANT are the main decks)
is too random. when they cast and you don't have it, same as playin monoR. and maybe you're goin to draw it a few turns later...
Boros Charm is a great choice. Even if you don't have it the turn they wipe it's 4 points of damage to the dome. It gives so much extra reach. Also in the version I play I have Boros charm and thalia, Anger of the gods is a lot worse when it costs 4 mana
I really like the idea of maybe a mix of and Thragtusk, perhaps a 4-2 mix of Baloth to 'Tusk. Both give us immediate value in the form of lifegain, whereas Baloth lives through Bolt and Helix, but without leaving behind an extra body when it does die, like Tusk. I think I like Baloth more, though, as it comes down faster and has a higher toughness and has the ancillary benefit of being good against discard (with 8Rack gaining steam).
Another thought I had though is running a couple of Garruk in the main. I like both , and for this deck, but I'm not sure which is the best fit. Maybe running planeswalkers in this deck would be too slow, but I like the diversity of threats and the ability of the Garruks to throw critters on the board to help keep us alive until we can go off. Between the two, I like Wildspeaker's cost and ability to help us ramp, but I think I like Primal Hunter's card draw even more. Card draw seems really powerful in this deck and could definitely help us dig to a fatal charbelcher. I would love to read others' thoughts on using planeswalkers in the deck.
I've been sideboarding , but I would never cut Wurmcoil/Bskull from the main board. The main reason that we play these is because by running these are chances of whiffing are significantly less. Also on Garruk I tested him and I was kind of disappointed usually they just get bolted or we have to give up too many mana dorks for it to be worth protecting. In my opinion I would keep wurmcoil and Bskull main if you're looking for a budget fix you could run /Thrun mainboard, but these are both less effective and the latter.
Also I have found vs. Burn Baloth is a lot better and vs. Zoo Kitchen finks is a lot better so choose according to your meta.
