My store is hosting no ban list modern and I'm curious to get some opinions.

    1) What general deck would you play?
    2) What general deck do you think will win the tournament?
    3) Would you enjoy no ban list modern for 1 day?

  • posted a message on GP Main Event only for the Playmat and Promo
I'm planning on going to the legacy gp in Tacoma. I don't have a legacy deck (and have never played the format), but I still want the play mat and the promo. Should I enrol in the main event and then drop out right after the players meeting or is there a different way?

I live in the area, so i'll be there whether I play in the main event or not. I've never been to a GP and also never played legacy before. Do you guys think it makes sense to start throwing something together now, or just play in the side events?

  • posted a message on Is this u tron deck viable for pptq
I would move this thread into the modern section of the forums, even more specifically the mono blue tron thread. Those people can give you the best advice.

I'd say that the deck has a fair shot at a pptq as long as you are familiar with the more difficult matchups. I think making the deck UW would strengthen some of the poor matchups, but if it isn't an option I wouldnt worry about it

  • posted a message on New Cube MMA or MM2?
I'm building a cube with a 4-2-1 , common uncommon rare split. I'm not planning on using expensive rares or rares that are poor for drafting. Should I use modern masters 2013 or modern masters 2015?

Hey guys. I'm looking to get into standard, because the modern pptq season is ending. I've played a lot of modern, some drafting/ sealed, but never standard. I'm looking for a tier 1 deck that either wins or loses somewhat quickly. Something simple to pilot would also be a plus. Budget isn't too much of a concern.

Or should I just wait until 2 weeks or so until a standard pptq and assemble a standard deck then (because of how fast things rotate through the format).

yeah sorry, it was a thalia and a vryn wingmare

Affinity really comes down to who is on the play. Although affinity is favored, because they are more consistent with an early win. Infect is really scary if you don't have a fog effect. Jund is at least 50/50 once you put in leylines and take out conterspells and unlifes.

Played my first pptq today. Out of 50 or so people I made top 8!

Match 1: (2-1) Mono White Death and Taxes
    Match 2: (2-0) USA Control
    Match 3: (2-0) Grixis Control
    Match 4: (2-1) Affinity
    Match 5: (draw)
    Match 6: (draw)

So I ended up with a record of 4-0-2. I was 3rd going into top 8 (first of the 4-0-2 people).

    Quarterfinals: (2-0) USA Control
    Semifinals: (1-2) Infect

Ill post what I remember a bit later. I had infect dead in game 3, but forgot to slaughter pact spellskite first. He had 2 lands in hand and I was a single land short :(. My concern going in was beating blue, but I ended up doing well in all those match ups. W Death and Taxes is a scary deck. Game 3 I barely powered though double Thalia.

Day's undoing seems poor to me as well.

About the EOT Ad Nauseam for value: It isn't something I do, but I feel like it is a pretty good idea. Especially because we can go off with spoils of the vault

I didn't realize you could tap down opponents lands with gigadrowse. That's awesome

Played fnm (second time with the deck) 4-0! 25 or so people.

I honestly don't remember much about the matches, but here is what I do.

    Game 1 - Grixis Control (2-0)
    Game 2 - Scapeshift with a
    through the breach
    package after sideboarding (2-0)
    Game 3 - Grixis Control (2-1)
    Game 3 - RG Tron (2-1)

I feel like our matchup against grixis control is poor, I just got lucky. In all those matchups I was fortunate to draw tons of pacts and silences. Also I had the derpiest game with tron. I mulled to 5 he mulled to 4. We spent 30 minutes trying to make something happen. Game 2 I comboed off in response to slaughter games though.

I feel like adding a 4th pact in the sideboard (plus the two silence). Also I lost one game because grixis control kept destroying my lands (specifically black). Does Urborg have a place in our 75?

  • posted a message on Naming a Card Not Legal in the Format
So I was playing modern match and cast a spoils of the vault. I wanted to draw my entire deck so I named black lotus for fun. I won the game and the match. Afterwards my opponent said that he thought there was some rule that you couldn't name cards not legal in the format. Is this true, and if so what would have happened?

I was playing Ad Nauseam against Grixis Control. I was being beaten down by a Tasigur, and my hand was an angel's grace, lightning storm, and tons of lands. I top deck my second lightning storm and realize I can play it and discard a land to get rid of the Tasigur. Then I draw Ad Nauseam and got exited, but then I remember my opponent had four cards in hand. Next turn I top deck my one of boseiju and combo off the next turn. My opponent had 3 counter spells in hand

  • posted a message on Disagreement on Who Won the Match
What would happen if two players disagree about who won the match? (I was thinking at a large, competitive event like a GP)

Lets say a judge gets called over and the two players are arguing about who won (Most likely the loser is being a jerk and flat out lying, claiming he won). If there are no witnesses does the match just end in a draw? Does the real winner get his win taken away from him?

  • posted a message on Best Place to Buy Signed Cards?
I'm looking to get signed versions of tons of the cards I own. I don't go to any big events where artists might be, and most of the cards are in decks so I can't really ship them off to get signed. Is there a good way to buy signed cards online?
