Look like MTGO prices have plummeted across the board (in modern) any insight?

I guess the disadvantage is that if I come back in 2 years and all of a sudden all my decks are worth double. If they are all ~20% more then who really cares.

I never got to play paper much other then commander with my casual group. Which is why I played MTGO in the first place. Ive moved to a new town for that job and so its even harder for me to do paper (though I could just go to the local store).

Im leaning towards sell but I haven't really thought of anything I'd used the money for and that's why I hesitate, I'm very far from buying a house or something.

The collection has stayed roughly ~1300 for the past year or so with me buying and selling a few things here and there. So I cant really expect it to be a "good" investment to leave there money wise. Given Ive spent ~900 AUD to get that ~USD collection it wasn't really that bad of an original investment.

Boy I wish I cashed out last week and bought Nintendo stocks.

I post this in Modern prices becasue my collection is 95% Modern based.

So I got my first real job recently Ive finished up Uni and Ive found I really don't have time or the interest to play MTGO anymore.
I have something like 1.3k USD worth of cards and im debating on cashing out or just leaving it all there for when I may want to play again.
I know I will play MTG again but these days its more likely to be IRL commander with friends for the social aspect.

I doubt I will play much this year or the next and about the only thing I can see that might bring me back in is MM2017 if it exists.

I don't "need" the money now but money is money I guess the question is are my MTGO cards going to appreciate more then whatever I use the money to buy. If I where to play sooner then I expected I should be in a position to just drop 1k on the game. So it might be demoralizing to learn that snapcaster and co have doubled but it wont be the end of the world.

    Thoughts?

This hits the nail right on the head. I know I am done buying foils for my burn and merfolk deck. No point when I can get the ban hammer because they want to make a pro tour "interesting".

I dont think you can ban burn so you should be safe Eidolon maybe.

Curious if you where to ban Gr Tron what would you ban? 1 tron piece would be enough but is that the target? or map? or stirrings? Banning say karn or wurmcoil doesn't do much as they just replace it with whatever other big thing gets released.

Relic is actually a card where I would say "suck it up" to people who don't have it, and I'm generally a doomsday prophet for price spikes. As DrWorm said, it's a standard sideboard card. Everyone should have already had them. Colorless, permanent graveyard hate and someone is probably sitting there saying, "I didn't know." Some spikes are stupid. I would say Eye of Ugin is a bit nasty in this department, but it's a hype train that will likely crash when the deck stagnates without new Eldrazi every set. But come on, Relic of Progenitus? It was a common in its standard set and has 4 printings. Most people who play modern should accidently have a playset or two laying around.

I agree with this, its had so many printings. It is just silly If eye of ugin hadn't just been printed at rare in mm2 I could also understand its price spike.

Was thinking about some things earlier today... noble hierach and tarmogoyf only see reprints in modern masters and zendikar fetch reprints are nowhere to be seen, no inquistion or serum visions in mm15 either. But they reprint thoughtseize in a "large" standard set. They could have easily put inquistion in place of thoughtseize, and put thoughtseize in a modern masters set. Feels like it's impossible to guess what they're gonna do.

The reason they printed thoughseize in Theros was as a proactive solution to the god's. They weren't too sure if they might be too strong so they had thoughtseize already in the set to deal with them should that be the case.

I know ive read the above posted by mystery wizards employee X but the next part im not sure is so true. I think thoughtsieze was slated for Modern masters 1 but they realized they wanted it in theros and pulled it.

Would have been cool if they could release reasoning like they do when they ban/unban something.

ie something like " after long discussion blah blah we decided not to ban X because of Y Z and W "
or " although there are some high profile cards some in the community wish to be banned (twin bloom etc) we decided that the format stilll has time to grow and react to the meta blah blah"
or " Literally we didn't think anything deserved a ban so we didn't discuss it "
    or etc.

the price [living end] is now starting to increase slowly on puca.... i wonder how long before the speculators decide what this card sells for. This kind of market manipulation needs to be regulated for real tho. this behavior is illegal on the stock market

I always found it funny how MTG is similar to an un-regulated stockmarket in terms of buy outs and stuff.

With the cost being R though you're gonna be stuck for red sources in any deck that's running more than 2 colors (without your opponent casting Blood Moon on you of course, lol).

Those decks will also struggle to get triple red.

Which is exactly WHY non-dedicated decks DON'T run Seismic Assault and why the ones that do would prefer Assault over Molten Vortex.

Play Blood Moon to fix your colors??? Where is the red Urborg

Why sell anything? Do you want something?

If you have those staples, they're all going to just keep going up. In six months, every card that got re-printed will be the same price it was a month ago, everything else will be just a tad more.

hes making collected company but if he has all the jund/junk staples it really shouldn't take much to finish it.

I found it interesting, but picking up those decks and playing them has resulted in suboptimal gameplay. Not really valid data in any way, but fun to watch. The hatebears deck is actually death n taxes.

    This is true.

Additionally it has little validity as its single elimination but its still cool (ie RG tron got paired against jund I wonder who will win? and thus decks hat fold to jund will do much better etc)

I feel so sorry to everyone who pre-ordered a box. Modern Masters 2015 is just as a flop as the first. If anything we have learned, the next time they release a Modern Masters set, DO NOT BUY INTO IT!

Your comment gave me an idea. I decided to add pricing to the pool so people could see if the value was there. When you buy a booster box it seems like you get at least $240 in cards most of the time.

Assuming this is an accurate way of generating pools couldn't you use your code to say generate 1000000 box pools and pull some interesting stats from it? ie lows, highs median variance etc

    A question for MODO players.
What's the bottom price of Rare staples reprinted in MMA15, i.e. Splinter Twin?
I don't see a Noble Hierarch under 10 tixs or a Twin much lower than 5 tixs, am i wrong?

    - L

Twin is already heading to 5 and it hasnt even come out yet I expect lower, not sure about Noble.

So either Wizards is taking us on one hell of a ride with fake info that will not match what is inside the packs (not likely unless Wizards has hired Skeletor to do advertising/marketing) or they are over reacting with how fast MM1 was burned through and at how high sealed product jumped in price.

I literally had a dream that this happened the night after full spoiler.

Just sitting here waiting for Modern to die from overpricing... It's starting to happen. If wizards did not put the prices so incredibly high on packs and have such a limited print run, the Modern format would be fine. Printing MM2 just like the amount Conspiracy was printed would of helped the format incredibly. Even now, cards from that set are still expensive yet priced fair.

Modern isn't even remotely close to dying. It's not "starting to happen" now. It was never really even starting to happen at any point. If anything, it's starting to NOT happen even less than it was before as Wizards clearly doubles-down on the format. The reprinting of allied fetches was huge and enemy fetches are sure to follow soon. Add to that continued high-level event support, more Modern events at non-Wizards organizers (TCG, SCG, etc.), price drops from further reprints, and the continued willingness of Wizards to reprint cards to lower prices, and you have a format that is about as far from dying as a format can get. Even for those who are annoyed with MM2015 reprints (or lack of reprints), some really important cards were still reprinted to make the format more accessible. As long as this continues, and there is every indication to believe it will, the format will continue to grow. It will also continue to be hundreds, even thousands of dollars cheaper than Legacy and Vintage, a trend that we will see more of as more cards are reprinted.

Too reiterate the gap between legacy and vintage to Modern will always grow due to reserve list etc. Theoretically it eventually becomes the only viable 'eternal' format as all the old cards slowly get damaged.
