- While I admit it's kind of a dumb idea, I really want to make Howl of the horde work.
- Howl of the horde (with raid) + Tormenting voice = discard 1, draw 6 (which nets 3 cards); seems good at refilling your hand at least.
- Almost all the creatures have some form of haste. Generator servant is there to mana fix/provide cheap damage.
- no, Monastery swiftspear will probably not get prowess for the additional copies of using cards (from howl), it's literally there for cheap early damage and raid.
Other cards I've considered:
Titan's strength - While copying this 2 times is tempting.. Raid will almost never be active due to the condition I need to attack BEFORE I can howl, which is kind of lame. Magma Jet - 2 mana for 2 damage is great with the scry, I will test this card for sure. Anger of the Gods - seems like more of a sideboard card (definitely 2+), however it reacts really negatively with raid and all of our creatures. Hammer of Purphoros - This is good enough to hit the mainboard as at least a 1 of against control and to consistently hit raid, however, it is a lot of mana to be using for a creature we just want to attack with. Stormbreath Dragon - the cost is high, but there's really no drawbacks, will test in multiples. NOTE: I will also test the new planeswalker sarkhan, but never him and this card together as it seems redundant. Firedrinker Satyr - Eh, it just doesn't have haste, and is pretty terrible vs. opposing aggro/midrange decks.
I know there's a ton more cards to consider for a deck like this (if it would even work), but I want to see what you guys think.
Oh I get it, there's no thread because everyone is keeping it as their ace in the hole card that nobody will see coming. Honestly, it's gonna give me nightmares facing against these in a control-shell.
How is there not a thread on this card? It's one of my favorites spoiled so far.
1. it is a 3 costed 4/4 (in green no less, so it CAN be easy to cast)
2. it can pump itself
3. it can protect itself
4. block indefinitely
5. it can finish the game with haste quickly (as a 6/6 no less)
This card is amazing for control (or midrange) if you happen to run these colors. Much better than the highly discussed Pearl Lake Ancient (though that fills a different niche).
What am I missing that makes this card not amazing?
The interactions between Domri Rade and the courser seemed too good to pass up.
The deck plays amazingly if it keeps it's curve going, but otherwise it has enough stall to stop aggro in it's tracks (especially after sideboarding). Control is a little harder considering how it beats up midrange-y decks like this, so I have some uncounterable hydras that synergize amazingly with Corpsejack Menace and a couple sires that can effectively win the game on their own if not dealt with immediately.
Please give me feedback and help me improve this by adding suggestions! Thanks!
Small disclaimer: I'm not racist, I just hate black decks. So with the addition of Bile BlightANDDrown in sorrow something must be done in order to have a chance in game one.
I can't wait to try out brimaz, king of oreskos! Seems like a GREAT card vs. aggro and control alike, but I would definitely side him out vs. control for sin collectors (kind of obvious, supreme verdict protection).
I already use the erebos in matchups with control of any kind, I don't really want them gaining life and I DO want to draw cards at the cost of my own life.
I would like to get some input on my card choices for the upcoming format! (I know this list is similar to current lists with slight differences)
I dislike how many people are misreading Searing blood.. You have to kill a creature to get the burn to the player, then with the satyr, can redirect the damage to another creature (assuming one is out). Very good versus say a monoblue deck that tapped out on turn 4 with a tidebinder mage + nightveil specter.
Young pyromancer builds seem terrible in the upcoming meta. Honestly I'm afraid of mono-black now that it will have drown in sorrow / bile blight, so we need to worry about overextending (even broken burning tree hands will crumble vs. them).. Drown in sorrow may not be maindecked, but bile blight WILL. I'm almost positive of it. I would if I ran monoblack at least, knowing it completely wrecks tokens and over extending with the same creatures.
At my FNM, I'd go as far as to say 80% play a form of monoblack and I can crush them with my RDW, especially post sideboard... For now.
I think the new satyr will be really good against opposing weenie decks. Maindeckable? Maybe not just yet, but sideboard I'll try a couple and see how they play out.
With BNG coming out, I'm considering a more burn-heavy build (10+ burn) with a more robust creature base (frostburn weirds, chandra's phoenix, boros reckoner etc**..) because I'm really afraid of monoblack rampaging the meta.
I'm going to try out the flame-wreathed phoenix, but I don't think it's going to hold up without hammer maindecked. It is a sweet card though.
Has anyone thought to splash black for the new god mogis? I think it might be a good option, but need to see exactly how well it plays (same goes for many of the cards in BNG).
So is RDW dead? Nah I don't think so, it will always be a competitor as long as you start the game with 20 life.
** I know people already run all of this, just giving examples of what I consider robust
I know that. How does removing said eye kill it? We've had blind cards in magic before just look at Blind Creeper, Blind Hunter, and Blind Phantasm. So the cyclops being blind wouldn't kill it. So why does it suddenly die now that it no longer has an eye? I under stand that it a cute little effect, I just don't get the flavor of it.
Regarding the story referencing this...
Odysseus and crew had to get Polyphemus (the giant Cyclops) drunk in order to poke it in the eye and escape. If Odysseus and his crew did not attempt to escape, they would all eventually be eaten by the Cyclops (blind or not). Polyphemus has eaten their crew members and will eat the rest of them if they do not escape his cave. However, Odysseus and his crew do not kill Polyphemus because the cyclops had blocked the exit of the cave with a large boulder. If Odysseus had killed Polyphemus, he and his men would not have not had the strength to move the boulder and therefore, they would have been trapped in that cave. Odysseus had enough trouble simply blinding him without attempting to physically kill him (which in any case might have alerted the other Cyclops living nearby).
Well, on Monday we'll know all the cards, half the people on this forum will call it the best set since Innistrad, others will say its as bad as Homelands. Same deal every few months
I like that he essentially plays around brave the elements. Your lightning strike/ shock aren't 'wasted' because they still did damage to the opponent. He needs to be played in a deck with 12+ burn spells to get the most value out of him, which is unfortunate for mono-red aggro (or anything with devotion strategies). He could replace firefist striker easily (a card these decks already use)in the two drop spot. He synergizes well with burning tree and the new searing spear. He will see play almost for sure.

4x Experiment One
4x Kalonian Hydra
3x Scavenging Ooze
4x Sylvan Caryatid
4x Abrupt Decay

It doesn't utilize much from BNG except for a few key cards, Courser of Kruphix(mainboarded) and Drown in Sorrow for the sideboard.
The interactions between Domri Rade and the courser seemed too good to pass up.

Sideboard is currently:
3x dark betrayal
3x sin collector
3x doom blade
3x banisher priest
1x thoughtseize
2x erebos, god of the dead
I can't wait to try out brimaz, king of oreskos! Seems like a GREAT card vs. aggro and control alike, but I would definitely side him out vs. control for sin collectors (kind of obvious, supreme verdict protection).

So it doesn't actually fit regarding "flavor".
Biggest overstatement I've seen yet. 10/10
t1: mountain -> foundry street denizen (or rackdos cackler/FDS)
t2: (draw) mountain -> BTE -> BTE -> BTE -> BTE -> thunderous might (on the one drop)
12-15 damage on turn two would create hilarious reactions.
Funny how, when they both came out, people hated them.
Kind of like how I hate BOTG right now.
