I can't wait to draft a new modern masters format to be honest. Say what you want about the expected value I've always had a blast drafting these sets. MM1 I drafted a handful of times and played Affinity and Storm. MM2 I drafted a decent amount and was quite fond of building a U/G Thrumming Bird deck, I got pretty good at it at GP Vegas and made out like a bandit. I'm sure MM3 will be just as fun. Anyway not sure why you would bother cracking these packs outside of draft either. You were always better off buying the handful of singles you need instead of cracking a box for a hodgepodge of stuff you don't. Most magic financial speculators said that from the beginning. The $10 price range was actually partly to deter this and to deter inexperienced players from getting in over there skill level.

Side note, I'm sure Wizards took the overwhelming amount of complaints from the value mongers after MM2 into consideration when designing MM3. Should be somewhere closer to the value in MM1 this time around. Just hope it doesn't make the draft worse as a result though.

The baseless speculation on this set is kind of crazy.

First off, this is not Arabian Knights nostalgia at all. Arabian Knights was a Babylonian theme set not Egyptian, there proximity to each other can make that confusing I guess :p

Pyramid reprint, why? Even if it weren't on the reserved list it's just not worth it. Besides that there where lots of pyramids in ancient Egypt why limit it to just one pyrimid anyway. Perhaps a pyrimid theme land cycle, the Temples were a nice touch in theros.

Desert, I wouldn't get too hyped up for a reprint here either. The template is so old it would seem way out of place. The Desert subtype maybe could return. They would have to find something to do with it though.

Desert Twister? Just no. Green doesn't do this and hasn't for a very long time. It's out of color pie. I know they did Beast within but that was out of color pie then too. Noncreature destruction would be fine though. There are lots of one off exceptions like that such as Path to Exile and Hornet's sting.

I don't see devotion coming back at all, they will make these new gods as different from theros gods as they can. I also wouldn't expect them to change types either. Maybe they will maybe be like pseudo planeswalker type creatures like Jaya Ballard or an awesome legendary creatures. Only time will tell.

    Quicksand ... maybe, we'll see.

I'm actually not putting to much in my cabin on the hype train for this set. I like the concept and want to enjoy it as is without having a high standard of expectations to set that up to fail.

I feel the Norse mythology world guy to, your day will come buddy! Egyptian theme is just a little more popular and is a guarantee sell on wizards part.

Anything close to hymn in modern should be playable. This thing can hit lands and throw off curves which is what makes hymn so powerful. Can't speak for standard but this seems lagit in modern.

Wow, dude calm the **** down. From the top, Delver is like $2 dollars a copy so no need to reprint. Snapcaster Mage was a no go, no flashback. Still waiting on Liliana of the Vail, but a reprint could be in a 2nd eternal masters (Eternal masters is taking Modern Masters place). Fortunately her not being printed in M15 was only because of Thoughtseize being legal, her power level is high but not too strong for standard. Goblin Guide was format defining in standard and would have been again so they held it off for a Masters set. They printed the ally fetches in khans specifically so they did not have to print them in the 2nd Zendikar block, they never intended to print the other 5 in Zendikar. Don't have a good reason on Livala but I'm sure there is one. They also did the expeditions so there is that. Finally it would appease players who haven't got copies to just reprint all the valuable card whenever but would frustrate those who have collected them. It's a delicate balance and they are most certainly trying to perfect it, try some patience. Eternal Masters did a lot of well thought out reprints and I expect it to continue doing so moving forward. I'm sorry the system is against you personally at the moment, but in my opinion Wizards is doing a good job balancing reprints at the moment.

You can already buy Ajani Vengent for like $7 or $8 dollars and he sees some play every now and again. He's also been printed 4 times or something like that too I guess.

    Harbinger has two meanings

    1) a person who goes ahead and makes known the approach of another; herald.

    2) anything that foreshadows a future event; omen; sign:

And since when can anybody summon an Edrazi titan to a plane! If Nahiri is summoning anything to Innistrad I seriously doubt it is Emrakle. Besides, Jace went to Innistrad to find Sorin and Nahiri to help locate Emrakle and he just tripps over the last titan in the process? Really? I don't think Wizards is that bad at story telling!

Also confirmed by Mark Rosewater himself, 4 planeswalkers on Innistrad and dual faced planeswalkers in that assessment only cont as 1 of the 4 total. So Jace, Nahiri, Sorin, and a daul sided planeswalkers/planeswalkers for Arlin Kord.

Now my question is, "What's the the harbinger of?"

Also, would have thought for sure that booster art was PW Jace card. Maybe four planeswalkers??

Probably "an ass kicking for Sorin turning her into Avacyn."

She wasn't turned into Avacyn at all dude, Sorin totally kills Avacyn off in the art with Tamiyo! Besides Nahiri destroyed Markov manor before Jace arrived, how could she possibly be Avacyn. Now can we please get off this vary silly idea please!

Yes, Tibalt can lure devil's. He has never been linked to this mechanically though. Devil token however are natural specifically to Innistrad replacing 1/1 goblin tokens. If later incarnations of Tibalt refect his ability to summon demons, cool. Devil tokens on Innistrad do not mean be any stretch of the imagination that he is on Innistrad as these are natural to the plane itself. If they suddenly appeared on say Alara than one could guess Tibalt is involved. I liked Tibalt as much as the next guy/gal, but suggesting that he is on Innistrad just because there are devil tokens is simply just baseless speculation! Besides creative has him wandering the multivers discovering what other methods of torture are in other regions of the multivers implying he's not interested in returning home just yet.

I'm pretty sure Jace is #4, he was the only gatewatch member not represented on a card in the last block and he's featured in so much of the card art. Also highly doubt he will be picking up any colors, he doesn't ever use non blue magic. Ever! Tibalt probably won't be in Eldrich Moon, I know there is a devil token theme. My point, when have they ever associated Tibalt with devil tokens? It's a leap at best to assume this means we will see a second version in this block. Tamiyo however has been referenced quite extensively and we don't know for sure she is simply a blue walker. They haven't stated to any extent her mana color alignments yet. At least with Nahiri spoiled we can put to bed all the silly "Nahiri is Avacyn" rumers. I just wish we can get confirmation on no Eldrazi/no Tibalt and move on to better speculation.

The Eldrazi are not on Innistrad. So we leave Zendikar a horrible mess with three objectives laid out for the gatewatch. 1) find Nahiri and Sorin, 2) figure out Bolas' motives for releasing them and why he wants others distracted from what he is doing, 3) find Emrakul. It would be pretty bad story telling if Jace just tripted right across Emrakul while traking down Nahiri and Sorin. Also Emrakul is the only remaining Eldrazi titan left and I also don't see Wizards just using up a story resource right away like that. They will wait a few blocks and do it right what with devoid and colorlessness and Eldrazi all over the place. This is a whole block story and they just won't piss it away on a 2nd set, period.

Good point, but most planes barely have enough walkers on them at any one time to fill a set. My guess for Arlinn was in SoI as well, my brother brought up good point also though witch made me think EMN. Why pass up an opportunity for a flip walker? If she indead is a flip card, she can't be in SoI because she is not on the proxy sheet! As far as we know thus far, these are the five planeswalkers tied closest to Innistrad currently. They have also moved away from printing stray planeswalkers because although many people loved Tamiyo from Innistrad they didn't appreciate her disconnection from the story at hand and were heard loud and clear. The only reason planeswalkers on Zendikar last block didn't get a card was there were simply too many planeswalkers involved with the Eldrazi. For the most part if a walker is there, they get a card. The only change I can see is probably Sorin maybe. He recently got a card in KTK block and my not show up as a card. Not seeing Nahiri would be a miss on expectations, we have heard her come up several times in the last year and Ugin has sent several people in search for her at this point. Also, it's kind of like when Kiora and Ral Zarek were introduced. Every set there was a forum about "Is Ral/Kiora gonna be in this block?". Heck lot's of people were waiting on baited breath for a Dack Fayden card as well. They have brought her up here and there for years, many of witch we knew her only as "the lithomancer". She is really overdue at this point. Tamiyo might get a card over Sorin, she remained to study Innistrad's moon and it's connection to Avacyn. Next set is about the moon I guess, she could be trapped on it who knows. All I know is if she were around, Jace would pull his info first hand from the source if possible. So why is he studying her work?

    For Tibalt fans

"Following his vicious whims to other planes. Tibalt's calling has always been in inflicting pain and torment, whether it's terrorizing shepherds in woodland villages in Kessig or chasing cathars from their fiend-slaying duties in Thraben. He has tormented innocents on Innistrad as his whims guided him, but now he wonders whether other planes might hold opportunities for mischief on a greater scale. Wherever the dapper pain mage finds himself, panicked screams are sure to follow."
-Doug Beyer "CHECKING IN ON THE PLANESWALKERS"

This seems to indicate he his very likely to be traveling the multivers as a nomad for some time discovering himeself. What business does he have on Innistrad and why return to a place where he was an outcast anyway. He doesn't even want revenge on anyone here. He just loves to torture. Besides it would feel absolutely obligatory, "we're returning to Innistrad, we have to make a Tibalt because he is from here!" I really like Tibalt as a charater but I would be disappointed to see Tibalt on Innistrad.

There are some certainties for sure at this point for sure, they are as follows.

    (U) Jace, SoI. He is in the art and is specifically looking for Sorin and Nahiri. He also suspects he may run into Liliana to assist her with her issue after helping Gideon (who asked first).

    (B) Liliana, EMN. Also in the art but for Eldrich Moon so we will likely see her later. My guess laying low sorting out her personal issues or taking out another contract holder. Innistrad has some powerful Demons and this Ormendohl from today's story seems like he could be lucky #3!

    (G) Arlinn Kord, EMN. Possibly RG but for sure a walker involved in whats going on. My guess is Eldritch Moon because she is likely a flip walker and she is not on the proxy replacement sheet for SoI. More than happy to wrong and she is a normal walker for SoI. Either way, she totally confirmed.

    Likely candidates are...

    (W) Nahiri, SoI. Possibly RW. She is the main reason Jace is on Innistrad. She has flavor text. She has some revenge planned for Sorin. A woman scorned and all.

    (B) Sorin, SoI. Most likely WB. The other persuit of Jace. One of them needs to be here and if not Nahiri than Sorin. He does tend to know when things are a miss at home also. Not as likely as Nahiri though, we already have a solid black walker in Liliana and we have seen him recently.

    Probly not ...

Tibalt- he left after his first walk to parts unknown and not a word since. I would love to see a new Tibalt I'm a fan but we would have seen something if he was actually here. Status still AWAL.

Tamiyo- any mention of her so far has been in passing and past tense. As in she was here and studied some things and isn't here any longer. We already have a solid blue walker and I don't see them adding a second color to her either. Again I'm a fan but I just don't see it yet.

Of course anything is possible but my theory right now is..

    SoI
    (U) Jace
    (WR) Nahiri
    (WB) Sorin

    EMN
    (G) or (RG) Arlinn Kord (flip)
    (B) Liliana

Butthurt city here man. I agree with last poster, twin has been on the chopping block since blazeing shoal was still legal. How this is a surprise to anyone is beyond me. Summer bloom is also not a surprise, turn 2 or 3 wins belong to legacy period. Yeah sure it shakes up things for the pro tour but these bans were inevitable regardless of when they happened. I wouldn't trade off my collection for tron or affinity either, high chance of future bannings. I do have good advice for players looking for a place to start going forward! Real Estate and format staples. Buying into just one architype especially a top teir architype will always carry a risk of one day being useeless. Getting a full set of fetches and shocks will let you build most architypes with specific purchases down the road. I also highly doubt cards like tarmogoyf, snapcaster mage, dark confidant, or Liliana of the vail are going anywhere soon so these should be safe purchases as well. Bans happen sorry for anyone who lost on this one. I don't think the future of the format is so cut and dry, I'm interested to see where this leads. Looking forward to the PT.

I'm pretty sure destroying the Titans physical form was never really an issue at all. It just wouldn't have done anything but send them back to the Blind Eterniyies. Anchoring them to Zendikar totally fixes that. Also I think Ugin thought of this way back when but being much older and wiser was concerned if he should and that it might have unforseen ramifications. All these planeswalkers are toddlers compared to Ugin and certainly don't have his forcite. And for the record Zendikar is fairly destroyed and Wizards wouldn't destroy a fan favorite plane just pound it to Oblizion and not return forever. Example Dominaria.

  • posted a message on Zendikar full art lands confirmed for Oath of the Gatewatch
Most people who speculated on full art lands went in with the incorrect assumption that they would be worth $1+ a peace. While it is true that the old zendi lands were worth that it took years to get there. The same is true for the UN sets whose value is retained 1) by a much smaller supply and 2) they are simply more popular. The only post release price I'm 100% sure about are the old zendi ones witch were 20¢ to 25¢ the whole year they were in standard. News flash they were always very readily available for purchase throughout that time and pretty much readily available up to preasant day. These will be more so as this Zendikar block will far outsell the original so I expect the same this time around as well. So the real issue is either your impatient and want them right freaking now, your trying to find a reason to hate the current market, or you lack financial discipline and can't save for the price the current market asks witch really isn't negotiable. Either way the higher mark up was heavily anticipated and should not be a shock to any one. Rest a sured there is plenty of full art land to go around and you will not be left in the cold. Really the fat packs and junk you get in fat packs are not all that impressive. The other day I bought 3x 80 count land packs for $15 each and spent a whopping .1875¢ a peace and got roughly 10x of each art for each color. They are there and surprisingly affordable. Also more speculators got screwed by fetch lands not being reprinted than speculating the value of full arts basic lands. It's a price you pay for playing the metaphorical stock market and using bad information or faulty assumption's to hedge you'd bet's. It is agreeably extremely funny to witness an epic fail in mtg speculation such as these.

If you look at the picture with the group of them on the floating island you can clearly see black (purple) aether. I am guessing it will be five planeswalkers that take care of the eldrazi. Lili is CONFIRMED not on Zendikar so I am guessing Sorin will show up at some point to close out the block. Not sure where Nahiri, Kiora, and Ugin come in but we could see as many as nine walkers in this block assuming Ob Nixilus gets his mojo back. A planeswalker block if you will.
