ok fair enough. id like to see a G/B devotion leaning more to green then black. green creatures with the good black removal to make a path for damage. plus with garruk being 'evil' again, he most likely will be a black/green planeswalker so as long as hes decent and does something for creatures or to your advantage, he could go in as well

yeah 40%, thats almost half, thats alot. by now theyve spoiled something good but not this time. and yeah theres alot of big green fatties that makes mono green look good, but, those big fatties come with fat mana prices. most of them will be uncastable. plus waiting to cast 6+ drops, chances are there just going to be a banishing light or something in your opponents hand that they thought was going to go to waste.

ive been keeping up alot with the M15 spoilers and i have to say so far, im very disappointed. i havent seen any cards worthy of even thinking about doing a pre-release for. i was more excited for born of the gods then i am for the core set this year. is this going to be another dud set?it seems like the only hype for this set is in the planeswalkers. if the only good powerful cards in this set are the planeswalkers, then standard really isnt going to change much. and anyone that played competitive and serious magic thru the innistrad time knows that standard rite now is really kinda boring overall. so whats with the pretty good core sets the last couple years and now this one being so bland? are we really going to have to wait until the next block to get anything good?

i say run 3 of each. the instant removal for something is great when some decks try to do funny stuff. plus running 3 of each gives you 6 sources of planeswalker removal, which with any good deck rite now pretty much takes care of every single walker they run

  • posted a message on Knoxville open in a week, i need suggestions and major help
ok this may be a long post so ill warn you now

for the past few months ive been playing black/white control and mono black. theres a magic shop in my area that does a wed nite stnd and a thurs nite stnd on top of doing the usual fri nite, ive been doing all three for the whole time testing each deck and trying my hardest to figure out which one would be my best bet in knoxville and tweeking each of them to try to refine them and honestly, im still at a complete loss. ill be honest, i hate playing mono black, it just seems so boring to me. playing with blood barons, obzedats, and elspeths, the deck just seems like its so boring, just my opinion.

now this is where i need your help. everyone tells me and we all kno that when it comes to high level competitive magic rite now, mono black is what gets there and does the best overall. its has more wins and more top 8's then most decks combined, scary lol. black white shows up to, sometimes. i dont think its actually won an open or done well in top 8 for awhile now. so heres the main problem, ive gotten royally screwed with both decks many many many times, both with mana and with spells. i run 25 land in both. ill post the black.white list at the bottom, the mono black list is pretty much all the same from any other one out there. everyone tells me i should run mono black, but, the black white ive had more success with locally and i havent gotten as screwed with it as i have the mono black, wierd rite? i kno. seems like it should be the other way around but its not. i dont want to risk taking one deck and flopping and regretting not taking the other one. so i need some help deciding which to take. i will say its my first open ive ever done so i kno alot of ppl are just going to say take the black white cuz its fun for me to play and to just go and have fun but i want to also do well. ive always wanted to be a good competitive magic player. ive won many fnms, gamedays, pre-releases and sealed tournaments in my area and i want to move to bigger better things. im driving just over 7 hours to go to knoxville and i dont want the drive to be a waste. so help me out, please. here is the black/white deck list.

    Creatures (14)
    3 Blood Baron of Vizkopa
    4 Desecration Demon
    4 Pack Rat
    3 Obzedat, Ghost Council

    Planeswalkers (2)
    2 Elspeth, Sun's Champion

    Spells (19)
    3 Underworld Connections
    2 Bile Blight
    3 Devour Flesh
    4 Hero's Downfall
    2 Ultimate Price
    1 Whip of Erebos
    3 Thoughtseize
    1 elixir of immortality

    Lands (25)
    2 Plains
    10 Swamp
    4 Godless Shrine
    4 Mutavault
    1 Orzhov Guildgate
    4 Temple of Silence

    Sideboard
    3 Lifebane Zombie
    2 Sin Collector
    1 Blind Obedience
    1 Dark Betrayal
    1 Doom Blade
1 Erebos, God of the Dead
    1 Drown in Sorrow
    3 Duress
    2 Revoke Existence

and before anyone says something about the one elixir, i kno blue control really only does that but, theres also always a few ppl in my area that does some stupid mill deck that somehow does really well and beats alot of ppl so i put it in there for that locally, but overtime i noticed it actually did alot of work for me. the 5 life really helps against aggro incase i cant draw what i need on time, or it lets me blow them out quicker. and against control it lets me get all my threats back theyve countered or verdicted. and surprisingly they never d sphere it since i have other threats like rats or demons out that have to be taken care of first, so by the time they get rid of those, i have plenty of mana to crack elixir in responce to the d sphere. and against everything else, its just a good way to reload everything.

there was a guy at my fnm last fri that splashed white into the monoblue for detention spheres and sphinx rev and supreme verdict in the side. it worked really well. he was able to empty his hand and at your end step activate nyxthos and rev for 6 at the least, most of the time for 8 or 9. pretty much every game he ended the game with his life well over 20.

is this viable? ive been doing alot of thinking with my black white control and its not enough control for me, there isnt enough removal for me. it just feels like ill get blown out by aggressive creature decks with it. red and black have the majority of removal, thoughtseize, downfall, doom blade, devour flesh, ultimate price, anger of the gods, mortars and all the other red burn spells. but i havent seen much red/black midrange control, so is this not a deck that works well or what?

um, not sure. typically foreign rares arent more then a couple dollars more then the U.S. version, but since mutavault is such a huge card, and its foiled and foreign, it could be worth a hell of alot. what i would do is contact star city games and tcgplayer directly and ask them what theyd price it at and take the average of the two and make that the price

yeah idk why i put chain to the rocks in there, i was looking at it and wasnt thinking. i play with 4 demons in my BWR so i kno their power and game controlling potential. i forgot about alms beast. i kno in most areas 4 doom blade is bad but, in my area monoblue, r/g devotion, naya, and rdw are very popular. typically theres 35 ppl at my fnm's, theres 3 mono black ppl, and a couple jund, the rest dont ever run black so us ppl who do run black always have 4 doomblade main. thats a good list to start off from though, thanks

i said last week i was going to do black/white control for the past fnm, i couldnt get it built in time so i had to use the BWR deck instead (went 5-1). i got my list laid out and looking at it, idk if im to happy with it, it just doesnt seem to have the umph im looking for

    4 demons
    4 blood baron
    3 obzedat

    3 elspeth

    4 doomblade
    4 downfall
    4 thoughtseize
    3 devour flesh
    2 chain to the rocks
    2 underworld connection
    2 whip of erebos

    4 godless shrine
    4 temple of silence
and some combination of 17 swamps/ plains depending on the final build

i dont have pack rats, which will hurt me i kno. i want as much removal as i can get, which is why i like BWR but everyone says the deck sucks so. wanting something GP worthy, without pack rat for now

eh i think its more the sorcery speed then the mana cost, cuz now like aggro with its creature curve, we have a nice kill spell curve now. and yeah thats true, itll pbly be in my sideboard for the devotion decks, doubt it sees main board action
