people can make whatever argument they want about cmc, i think battle cry is more relevant than vigilance because i want to end the game not extend it because "blocks good". hero all day, at least til brimaz is under $10, and then why not try both if your mana can support it?

Well... I used to be on board the flicker train. It's great for generating CA, but that alone doesn't close out games. It's still a lot of fun to play but I don't think it's as competitive as the Hatebears version of the deck. I don't want to discourage you from the deck though. Death and Taxes is still a fine deck and will perform well at FNM events. I wouldn't expect it to win a PTQ, but I'm sure it could go 4-0 in a daily event.

yeah the approach i was taking was kind of going for a hybrid between the two, mostly hate with just a little flicker for value

You're right. Torpor Orb does hurt your deck. I was thinking about cards to hate on Pod and Twin. Maybe something like Dampening Matrix if you don't mind boarding out Vials and Swords? Suppression Field has been brought up recently as well.

what you said earlier about flickering the avengers just popped back in my head. would inquisitor exarch be the best replacement if i wanted to keep it a 2 drop? if so, should i run 2 or find room for a 3rd? or is all this flickering just waaaaay too cute?

have you tried out the new spirit from B2G Spirit of the Labyrinth?
im trying 2 from the board, theres lots of revelation decks and cantrip decks (heartbeat combo, paradise weird, etc) in my local meta

I'm not sure what your meta game is like, but I don't know how effective Devout Lightcaster is going to be. Especially casting WWW when running 8 colorless lands, you are going to have problems consistently getting this out. Brave the Elements also seems too narrow. If you're looking to avoid red sweepers, Burrenton Forge-Tender plays better with Thalia, and can swing for damage too. I also like Torpor Orb a lot right now.

lightcaster is mostly a vial target(not worried about hard casting it really) i ran it in my melira pod because theres lots of liliana and stuff in my meta and its always served me well. forge tender will def be replacing brave the elements. isnt torpor orb gonna screw with my flicker effects? ive also been looking at Ethersworn Canonist but im n0t sure what match-ups that will even help with, seems like it would hurt me as much as them

Thanks for all your answers/help fellas. i have never played with or against d&t, all my experience in modern comes from bug infect and melira pod, but i have always been a fan of this type of deck. how does my list look so far? as always any help is appreciated.

what are peoples opinions on swapping phyrexian revoker for spellskite? spellskite seems like it might be better with more zoo and bogles decks around. i just dont feel like revoker really handles anything the rest of the deck doesn't, whereas spellskite seems like it would shore up a lot of matches.

how are people feeling about Spirit of the Labyrinth? too fragile? too narrow? i know people are testing it in legacy for brainstorm/JtMS hate..... i think it might be relevant against decks like heartbeat combo or storm or anything relying too hard on cantrips, also poops on horizon canopy but that seems kinda fringe. im considering trying it because i opened a few and was wondering what the general consensus was rather than just try to cram n jam him

  • posted a message on [[BaseSpec]] I think BNG and Theros are Probably the WORST Sets in History
Some people, myself included, view that as a good thing. My deck doesn't need new cards every set. Just one or two every other year is fine, and only to keep up with the one or two cards that went other decks.

Though I do see where others are coming from. When decks don't change quick enough the format can feel like it is getting stale. This is only magnified by the lower number of players who play eternal formats, so it can often feel like we are playing the same decks over in over in local games.

It can be tough to strike a balance.

i believe im one of the "others". i love when a new competitive deck appears in modern so i'd prefer at least a few cards in every set to be designed for modern although i'd cap it at 3 per set. that would keep it from feeling too much like standard and also keep it evolving and not feeling stale

  • posted a message on BNG Ban list update??
i really like the idea of un-banning GSZ, i dont like being forced to use chord. I think it would also be necessary for pod decks to still exist if birthing pod gets banned as some people have suggested. i personally dont think birthing pod should be banned. pod isn't unfair because it is very difficult to pilot, and the meta has numerous answers/hate. it is also very interactive. the only time i have ever not wanted to play against pod i dropped because I was playing UG infect and had no answer for a resolved melira. oops, shoulda splashed black.

if Conspiracy does turn out to be a multiplayer themed cube then i think its possible that there is only 210 cards in the set because you are intended to add the last 150 yourself, that way every one's cube can be distinct but still feel familiar. i'd be into that, it would also be a great way to introduce more people to cubing
