This set has lots of good cards but many disappointments. First, fabricate seems about 1 mana over-costed in almost every case. I guess you're paying for the flexibility but it feels weak. Second, energy cards feel plain bad. The abilities on energy cards could just as easily be mana abilities and there are no real pay-offs or worthwhile sinks for energy. Also they missed an obvious opportunity to print a legend that cares about energy. My third problem with the set is Depala. I was excited to finally build a w/r ed deck when she was spoiled but they didn't include enough support. Maybe Aether Revolt will fix problems 2 and 3
I am trying to figure out how viable vehicles will be in EDH. It is an interesting mechanic but I feel they are just a nice gimmick but have no true strategic play behind them.
I'm going to test the better ones in my King Macar deck as additional ways to get inspired while applying pressure. I don't think there will be enough support for a vehicle theme unless they spoil a bunch tomorrow.
I will start by saying that I am aware she is a worse Rhys. I don't want to hear it. I have a thing for fringe commanders and weirdo strategies and she certainly fits the bill. However, I'm not sure there is enough green artifact support to do anything cuter than token makers and doubles. Are you building Oviya? How?
P.S. seems pretty good in shattergang, no?
Sorry, haven't used vela in my ninja deck since the old legend rule when it was 36 damage. You are correct, it is now only 30. She's even less appealing now. Oh Gray Merchant of Asphodel is a fantastic ninjitsu target
There are a lot of vela decks out there to look at, I happen to run dragonlord silumgar instead because the vela triggers don't really do much and the evasion she provides is unnecessary because most of your non ninja's will be naturally evasive. Cloudstone Curio is a must, as is equilibrium. Crystal shard and erratic portal also do good work. Also a kicked rite of replication targeting vela is auto win.
This points to either Liliana being in Aether Revolt (not likely IMO) or Tezzeret has to be at least partly Black.
The promo art we've seen makes it likely that the other PW in Aether Revolt will be at least partly White.
So Tezzeret is likely either Dimir or Esper in nature.
Tezz will be u/b or just black. If Mr Whiskers gets a card it will be w/g or mono white. No reason for Tezz to be esper and that would mean 6 white walkers in standard at once, which seems like a pretty heavy and unlikely imbalance
I was only going to buy a few singles from this set, but masterpieces mean I will probably do a couple prerelease and maybe get a box. I really want a masterpiece darksteel relic
I like this card. The way I see it, this makes it easier to close out the game very efficiently. Basically cycles your dead cards and lets you wreck face regardless of blockers. This is perfect for decks with low creature counts (ex. control) where card quality and a reliable clock can often make the difference between winning or not.
