Is Ram Through the best candidate mono-green removal option we’ve seen in a while? Instant Rabid Bite that actually makes tramplers ‘trample’. On a beefy Avatar of the Resolute, thy could do some heavy lifting.

This deck ... still isn’t in the market for permanents that don’t boost devotion.

I expect part of the reason for keywording these is to support a more general template for cards like Odric Lunarch Marshal, Soulflayer, Rayami, Cairn Wanderer, Majestic Myriarch. Those are all extremely wordy and inconsistent about what sets of abilities they cover - they probably want new behemoths to have abilities like that, but not have to itemize every keyword (and have them future-compatible with future keywords), and are making this change to make frequently used but never-before-keyworded ‘abilities’ also get caught in this net. I’d be a little surprised if they miss this chance to officially keyword ‘Daunt’ (the Steel Leaf Champion ability) in the same effort though.

Myr Welder, Mairsil, and Necrotic Ooze have nice compact text encompassing a creature gaining all activated abilities of (subset of creature cards with activated abilities). It would be a clean fix to the Cairn Wanderer problem to have similar all-encompassing ‘~ gains all static keyword abilities of all...’ wording.

Though for abilities like that, being templated to include all creature static keyword abilities ... makes them play a lot less nicely with Defender. A keyword-generic Soulflayer munching a Sylvan Caryatid ... wouldn’t be as useful as hoped.

ridiculously overcosted even for putting the ability in black at common. clearly made just to keep escape in check in limited.

Which is basically the same as they did when they called this Final Reward in the Embalm-Eternalize-And-Gods-that-didn't-like-to-die Amonkhet block.

Worst case scenario: this is a 6/6 for only 4 mana with no real downside

Permanently losing P/T when it would take damage ... feels to me like a pertinent downside. Chump blockers (with nonzero power) shrink it.

Black is the color that would be putting the tasty things in the graveyard in the first place. This card isn’t good value in just bringing back the normal-course things that you already cast earlier in the game and then died. It’s decks with black’s discard and gravepopulate/mill effects that will have big relevant things in the grave to make casting this into a curve-jumping behemoth on board. Mono white wouldn’t get there.

Perilous Research doesn't strictly reuse it, but it does allow you to extract more value out of it.

I mean on a single-consumer level, ignoring this doesn’t hurt anyone. But the raised - and valid - concern, is that WotC is clearly printing cards for direct resale based on their secondary market value. Which raises all sorts of red flags people are well within their rights to discuss - be it WotC losing the support of the companies that sustain the secondary market (and buy tonnes of product they might stop buying if they lose faith in their supplier undercutting them with reprints), to concerns that WotC might now deliberately withhold reprints from randomized sets to make secondary market prices go up so they can issue high dollar value reprints direct.

These are discussionworthy concerns whether any single consumer is saying yes or no with their wallet to this instance.

Yeah, even if they do that it would be trivial for anyone who wants 20 to pay a friend or family member to order the other 10 for them.

Those basic lands are ******* amazing looking... can't believe you only get one of each for ******* $30
They're snow lands. It's on par with how much you'd be spending on the open market, if not a bit less.

Who wants one of each though??? People want more than just one.

Are they preventing people from placing an order for multiple? I was suspecting that they hope the people who want 20 of each... order 20 copies of that drop. Is that not the case?

how long it has been since the last standard with this many banned cards?

There are 4 banned cards in the current Standard.

For the last ~8 months of Kaladesh-Amonkhet-Ixalan-Dominaria-M19 standard, there were 7 cards on the Standard ban list.

By the way, according to at least one article, the cards in the C/U slots are included at their original rarity. So Demonic Tutor is in that pool for black C/U, for instance.

While it’s true that the cards in the 12 C/U slots are showing the rarity symbol of the set they’re reprinted of... this doesn’t necessarily mean Demonic Tutor is one of the 242 on the two dedicated black sheets. There’s also the dedicated pre-m15 sheet that will have cards of all rarities - that’s the sheet I expect notable old sub-rares like DT and Lotus Petal and Rhystic Study to appear.

(Edit) oh, I just reread the article. It does specify Demonic Tutor is on a Black C/U sheet (but lotus petal isn’t on the artifact c/u sheet, it’s on the pre-m15 sheet)

I think the theory is that Traverse can get it to hand (for t3 play) if crab fills the grave early. I’m not convinced it’s any more reliable than Bomat Courier builds or even Stitcher’s Supplier builds ... but we really haven’t got a suitable replacement for Faithless Looting and without it we are reliant on either a slower/costlier looting effect (like Izzet Charm or Cathartic Reunion), a smaller looting effect (Insolent Neonate, Merchant of the Vale//Haggle), a more random looting effect (burning inquiry), the all-in Bomat Courier plan, or a direct library-to-grave-filling effect like Stitcher’s Supplier, Hedron Crab, or Thought Scour.

None are nearly as tasty as Faithless was.

Atleast plenty of card prices due to scarcity will drop immensely (crucible was mythic in M19 lost 2/3 of the price)

Core sets are massively printed and the boosters low-priced. This set will probably have a print run not terribly different from a Masters set, and prices similarly premium. I would expect the net effect on the pricing of most reprinted cards to be ... comparable to the effect of Masters set reprints. Which tends to be modest and oftentimes temporary.

The only real place I could see a price impact is that foil slot. There will be 121 cards that will now have a foil instance in circulation that is just as frequent in this set as any nonfoil mythic is in a 'normal' set. For cards that had a high-demand foil premium multiplier, this will represent a substantial boost in circulation of that card at the foil level.

Any specific large-set mythic at foil is ordinarily, what, one per ~3000 packs? Any one reprinted here is 1 in 121 packs. Even if this is printed WAAAAAY less than a standard set, that's an enormous increase in foil circulation.
