First league results are up and they're all Oloro and Tasigur, just like everyone thought.

I mean, recently I saw a print from spastika where he was playing against VSL's Rachel Agnes. I have no idea if Rachel played 1x1 Commander before, but she's surely playing it now. Isn't that GREAT?

Who tf is rachel w/e and why should I care? Wtf is a VSL?

Vintage Super League, she was a competitor. Her stream and VSL are two things that are probably an order of magnitude more popular than Duel Commander.

Banning blue cards is not the answer, taking away the 10lp cushion counters and cantrips were never designed to work with is.
And again, 30lp may let you make more non-competitive funbrews and not worry so much about other underpowered decks. But the proof of what format is better is in the ammount of different decks in top8s, from the las 5 tournaments I could find results in either format:

DC: Vial+Kraum, Baral, Reyhan+Bruse, Akiri+Bruse, Geist, Thrasios+Vial, Breya, Gitrog, Nissa, Atraxa, Keranos, Zurgo, Nin, Jace, Titania, Clique, GAAIV.
Leviathan: Vial+Kraum, Maelstrom Wanderer, Narset, Titania, Geist, Jace/Teferi High Tide, Baral.

Even before the Vial&Breya ban, DC has had way more decks in the competition. And by the way, Leviathan has Necrotic Ooze, Yisan and Marath unbanned from the start but they still don't show up. Which makes me even more unwilling to believe the problem with the format's stagnation is the card pool, the problem is glaringly obvious: 30lp.
What good is a format that pretends to be diverse, if none of the diverse decks has any hopes of winning or even making tops?

As fsecco said, Leviathan is dead. The new deal is DC if you want a competitive experience with archetype variety, or WotC if you want to fool around with the most busted Oloro list ever played in non-RC banlist 1v1. Which may be a lot of fun, but isn't what I want to ever end up having to do if I want to win in a 1v1 competitive setting.

Pretty sure non WotC 1v1 formats are dead, unless you want to play French where there will be bannings every quarter and with 20 life instead of a regular 20 life constructed format.

Breya and Vial banned as Commanders, Yisan is back, and two more Moxen bite the dust. I'm really looking forward to what WotC will do for the real format though.

The problem for me is that the upper tier of the format is full of these decks. Legacy's got more power and speed but has safety valves. BG as the police deck has not really slowed the format down. Since Twin, it's been an alien nightmare followed up a format almost as fast as Philly to another set of bannings which doesn't seem to have slowed it down all that much.

From a thread with PV, Ari Lax, and Emma Handy:

Modern is a bad format for professional compeition, but it's a really good format for getting people into seats at regular levels of competition. Seems to be the best distinction I've seen so far.

Legacy is doing better at my local level because it doesn't require you build a Tier 1 deck to compete and stores have altogether removed all Modern support save for a single FNM, while Legacy has a community driven bi-montly League. Modern had a league too but the organizers dropped it because "that ***** is casual now".

Modern players didn't want their format to be casual, we were browbeat into chosing between losing our time and money investments through bans, or shuting the **** up and letting the pros have one more big event to play babby magic at.

This doesn't make any sense. I haven't met a single pro team dedicated to modern anyway but a bunch of casual players suddenly drop the format because it won't be at an event they'll never go to?
