It would not count as your land for turn. Your land for turn is only the first land you play per turn from your hand. Spells or abilities that put land into play (from anywhere) do not count toward this.

You will get 2 tokens. Each draw is treated as a separate trigger for erasure so you will have 2 mill events.

  • posted a message on Layer Question Regarding the Wizards Example
    Quote from zihyer »
Hi again folks. Ok, so I'm going through the layer write up over at Wizards here and about half way down there's an example involving Figure of Destiny, Mirrorweave and a couple other things.

What I can't make sense of is this: At the time Mirrorweave is cast, the target (Figure of Destiny) is no longer a 1/1 Kithkin but rather has become, and "is" effectively, an 8/8 Kithkin Spirit Warrior Avatar. But instead of bears being an 11/11 flyer with 1st strike, it is only the unchanged/original etb state of Figure with Giant Growth applied, making it merely 4/4.

Is there some aspect of Mirrorweave that reads or implies that the target creature is interpreted in its unmorphed/unchanged, enter-the-battlefield state?

    Many thanks!

Remember that copy effects apply in layer 1 while effects that set power/tough (like Figure of Destiny's) don't apply until layer 7. This is why when you copy a card you get only a copy of what is printed on the card plus anything gained through copy effects like clone. For a similar example using Thespian Stage to copy an activated mutavault will only get you a land, not a creature.

If his +1 gave vigilance as well I'd rather this card extremely high. As it is the problem I have is he is underwhelming on an empty board. +1 that does nothing or -2 for a 4 mana 2/2 flyer that presumably becomes a 3/2 lifelink next turn. He's not going to be the card control is looking for like the last Sorin was in esper control for awhile, but in a deck that reliably creates early aggression (Brimaz is probably the poster child for pairing with Sorin) he can be quite the house against opposing aggression.

Cards in your hand have "Cycling: 2"

This is meant to be a consistency enhancer, but it also creates an interesting combo with Fluctuator. Play both cards, then finish with Laboratory Maniac or Psychic Spiral.

This is an interesting one. You'd have to reprint Fluctuator, but even still I'm curious if anyone would play this just for value.

If a sorcery or instant card in your hand allows you a number of options when casting, you may activate any number of those options when you cast it.

Not certain about the wording. Basically, if you're playing a charm, you can use multiple options from it.

    The best wording is probably.

If an instant or sorcery spell you cast would allow you to pick a mode you may instead pick any number of modes for no additional cost. (You may not choose the same mode twice).

Lol I would just smile everytime I cast cryptic command.

Personally I'd be all about that Esper Charm. Getting a 3 mana 5 for 1. Yes please.

    Library of Leng

One more scenario just to clarify. If my opponent controls Library of Leng do they have to reveal the card if they are choosing to put it on top of their library? If not, does this prevent Waste Not from triggering?

Thank you guys for the responses.

This is actually a much harder to answer question than I anticipated, but the short answer is it does not hose Waste Not and it will always trigger the third ability. From gatherer:

10/4/2004 Since the card goes directly to the library, the card is not revealed unless the spell or ability requiring the discard specifically says it is.

    From the rules:
701.7c If a card is discarded, but an effect causes it to be put into a hidden zone instead of into its owners graveyard without being revealed, all values of that cards characteristics are considered to be undefined. If a card is discarded this way to pay a cost that specifies a characteristic about the discarded card, that cost payment is illegal; the game returns to the moment before the cost was paid (see rule 717, Handling Illegal Actions).

So in this scenario waste not will trigger and ask what kind of card was discarded. Because the card is considered to have undefined types (i.e. none) it is a non-creature and non-land card so it will trigger the third ability. This is not optional so if the discard spell does not say specifically to reveal the discarding player can't somehow choose to reveal a creature or land if they want that effect. It will always be a draw.

Yes. Sudden Spoiling only affects the creatures that exist on the battlefield when it resolves. Anything on the stack or that is cast later in the turn will be unaffected.

Until end of turn, you may play cards from your graveyard.
If a card would be put into your graveyard from anywhere this turn, exile that card instead.

    How about this little piece?

Seems very strong, but it costs 3 mana and lasts until end of turn. Still seems very abusable, however. Maybe if it was limited to permanents?

I can see this being interesting with a Heartless Summoning deck with Perilous Myr.

But it would be exiled after the first cast. Much as I love Heartless Havenghul and want it to be competitive it's just a no go.

The card itself isn't as strong as Yawgmoth's Will, partially for the mana requirements, but mostly because as OP said Modern lacks the mana spells of Legacy. Without Dark Ritual or the Threshold one its use would be more for a value turn. Maybe an artifact deck could abuse it with Grand Architect or just an Esper deck using it for extra cantrips and discard spells.

More than likely that was his standard list and it got categorized as Modern which happens decently often on SCG. There are no non-standard cards and even the SB is built with a focus on cards good against standard.

I play to much commander, and yes you're right (lots of split second in my playgroup) . Didn't know that you could target the same thing on the stack multiple times with things "above" it.

You can. This is actually quite a common usage of the card Remand. People will target their own spell returning it to hand and drawing a card while allowing their opponents counterspell to be countered for lack of a legal target.

  • posted a message on Zur + Gods + Aura Shards?
It will not. The way enter the battlefield effects work the game checks how an object exists at the instant it enters play to see what should trigger. So if your devotion to blue is 3 and you fetch Thassa you will not have a creature etb and it won't trigger. If you devotion to blue is 4 and you fetch thassa (thus bring your devotion to 5) Thassa will have always been a creature from the instant in entered the field and will thus trigger aura shards.

Harvest Maiden is a bit too powerful. Scroll Thief is 3 cmc for a reason and this card has lifelink, protection from red, and can draw more cards in a color that doesn't have access to card draw. Personally I could see 2W Lifelink 1/1. Whenever you gain life you may pay 1. If you do draw a card.

Sort of a mix between Well of Lost Dreams and Mentor of the Meek.
