I can't even get MTGO to load with this new build. I've been on the please be patient while loading screen for 15 minutes now. So much money wasted.

I've gotten the same problem, with the yellow box up and waiting forever. If it takes more than 5 minutes, close the program and restart it. When you get past the 5 colors spinning wheel, then wait at the yellow box for about 2-3 minutes. That's the longest it took for me when it successfully loaded. Give it a few tries, waiting a few minutes each time, and you should get through.

That sounds crazy, but it works, at least for logging on. Liberal artists and not engineers built this client...

Yeah I got it to load about an hour ago. Just in time to miss entry into the daily event I wanted to join. It's like they just don't like my money or something.

One more question, if the second card cast from Storm CANNOT be paid, it is not casted, correct? So the second card cast would just go to the GY.

If the cost cannot be paid then it is not cast. It does not go to the graveyard though. When you trigger Possibility Storm you exile all the cards and if you cannot cast the spell it will stay in the exile zone and eventually get put onto the bottom of your library in a random order with the other exiled cards.

    1. The commander "tax" is the same sort of effect as Grand Arbiter. Any spell you cast no matter where it's from or how you do it will cost one more. Effects that let you cast things for free (Possibility Storm, Force of Will) will still cost one more.
    2. Yes this is the same difference. Whenever a players lifetotal is set to a specific number the appropriate amount of life is gained or lost. You can see the details under the Magister Sphinx rulings:
2/1/2009 For a player's life total to become 10, what actually happens is that the player gains or loses the appropriate amount of life. For example, if the targeted player's life total is 4 when this ability resolves, it will cause that player to gain 6 life; alternately, if the targeted player's life total is 17 when this ability resolves, it will cause that player to lose 7 life. Other cards that interact with life gain or life loss will interact with this effect accordingly.
    3. Yes both of their effects apply. Static effects are seen to always occur from the instant they are on the battlefield so even though you will eventually get rid of one both of the Norn's effects apply.

You cannot respond to a card dying to the legend rule. Once you control two legendary permanents with the same name one is put into the GY as a statebased action. This is not a sacrifice which matters for some cards. It is however a creature dying so it will trigger effects like Butcher of Malakir

I'm surprised not to see Reveillark in his list. TBH I'd rather have him over the Sun Titan. Maybe even add Birthing Pod for a bant pod list considering his curve.

    Wizard Armor - 1W
    Enchantment
Spells that target players or permanents cost 1 more to cast.

The poor man's Leyline of Sanctity and a way to make removal a little less good. It is a little too good against storm (though so is leyline) and it slows down burn quite a lot.

Storm doesn't really care about it to be honest. It only effects three spells common in storm. Thoughtscour (which is not all that common) Gitaxian probe and Grapeshot. Rest in Peace or Rule of Law is far, far more potent.

    Shimmerfang -R
    Creature - Spirit
    Haste
At the beginning of your end step sacrifice Shimmerfang
At the beginning of your upkeep if Shimmerfang is in your Graveyard you may return it to your hand.
    1/1
Cool design, but why does a 1/1 haste for 1 need a downside when a card like Legion Loyalist exists? Perhaps make it a 2/2 with everything else being the same. This way we have another 2/2 haste one drop (alongside Goblin Guide) and they both have drawbacks.

As a 2/2 it would be too powerful. As is it is good since you can use it in conjunction with Liliana, or in a burn style deck Shrine of Burning Rage.

Who's we? You play every deck? Quit posting in every thread.

UWR Delver players, anyone tried it?

I've tested him briefly so perhaps take my words with a grain of salt. I've found him to be mostly too slow and not quite strong enough. When I tap out for 3 mana I expect a Geist level threat. Crusher did however perform quite well in a RUG delver list a put together that abused Life From the Loam and sac lands.

  • posted a message on Birthing Pod responses and Smash to Smithereens
You cannot use Searing Blood on the creature sacrificed to Birthing Pod. Sacrificing the creature is a cost similar to paying mana and cannot be responded to in any way.

The smash will still deal damage for the same reason as you stated.

  • posted a message on Arcbound Ravager and Spellskite interactions
    1. You can. The only restriction on Arcbound Ravager's ability is you must target an artifact creature so Spellskite qualifies.
    2. Correct. When you sacrifice the artifact it goes to the GY immediately, but ravager only gets the counter when the ability resolves. You can activate his ability and let it resolve then activate again if you don't want to activate it three times at once.

  • posted a message on Strionic Resonator
What you are copying with Strionic Resonator is the actual triggered ability itself once it is triggered. In this case when SDE dies his ability triggers and goes onto the stack targetting an opponent. You may then activate Strionic Resonator to copy that ability and then you a copy of the first that will deal 6 damage to a target opponent of your choice.

  • posted a message on Shuffling
Pile shuffling doesn't contribute at all to randomizing your deck as it is quite easy to stack. You are free to use any other shuffling technique that will sufficiently randomize your deck, but the best way is generally just to be careful with a riffle shuffle.

You don't have to wait for your draw step specifically, but you do have to draw a card somehow. Ad Nauseam itself doesn't draw cards it only puts them into your hand.

  • posted a message on Help with multiple Consecrated Sphinx on the board.
When player A draws both B and C will get a triggered ability with C's resolving first (because he is last in turn order). When he draws his two cards B will get two triggers because each card drawn will trigger one. Once the triggered ability happens you cannot do anything to stop the ability from happening (barring Stifle or such). Removing the source of the ability doesn't actually do anything.

Now if C had used Swords to Plowshares on B's Sphinx before he drew then C would draw 2 cards (from A's draw) then B would resolve his original trigger and draw 2 (also from A's draw) which would trigger C's Sphix twice allowing him to draw 4 cards. Net result is C gets 6, B gets 2, and A gets only 1 for his drawstep.

    Hi all,

New to UWR Control, and just wanted to bring up Keranos, God of Storms for discussion. I'm running 1 mainboard along side 1 Ajani and it's been amazing. Once it's on the field, it's a tough to remove clock or card advantage machine, both of which we need to close games. Anyone else given it a go? What are your thoughts on Keranos?

For anyone interested, here's my full list:

This is the UW control thread. You probably want to post this in the UWR control thread which is in the proven section.

What about something simple like Steam Blast? Would anyone else like to see a simple burn spell like this come into the format? Is it just me?

Also, is Flame Rift something that could come back, too?

Volcanic Fallout is generally just a better Steam Blast since it's uncounterable and an instant for only requiring double red.
Flame Rift though isn't too powerful, but the only deck it helps is burn and they don't really need much help.
