If they ban something from Dregde, i believe Infect's share will decrease too due to more interactive decks showing up again. As a result, i dont think any actions should be taken against Infect before Dredge's numbers either start decreasing or it finally gets something banned as a last resort.
I share this opinion. The success of Infect is the result of an uninteractive metagame. Infect folds to BGx/Jeskai and once the conditions are more friendly for fair decks Infect's shares will decline naturally. However, I suspect that a ban of a Dredge card will simply make room for Bant Eldrazi again, as they get smashed by Dredge as well. They both have the role of the predator for fair decks, Dredge is just better at it currently.
I really hope for a (re-)print of cards like Containment Priest and Baleful Strix instead of any bans...that would greatly help with both matchups.
Ive changed 1x Noble Hierach in Japanese from MM2 for 1x Dark Confidant MM2 and 1x Chandra, Torch of Defiance, its a good trade?
I'd say yes. I Sold/traded all my Noble Hierarch when they hit $80 CAN. I personally think Noble will have a reprint in the next modern masters.
I'd hope so. I'd rather see Noble Hierarch at the mythic slot rather than Goyf. Goyf saw 3 prints, time for something new.
A mana dork is as unmythic-y as it gets. Expect it back at rare. I certainly see Voice of Resurgence in one of the green mythic slots, however. Tarmogoyf might still be in, I can't really think of another worthwile green mythic. Craterhoof Behemoth is expensive, but not really a Modern card. Golgari Grave-Troll also doesn't fit the bill.
Hey guys, when do you think is the right time to get a playset of the Stoneforge Mystic GP-Promo?
The time to buy is now. I already have 7 mystics and I'm working on getting 1 more mystic, two sword of feast and famine along with a sword of light and shadow. (also Idk how anyone could like the GP promo better than the original but w/e)
Great, thanks for your advice. I just bought a playset
How do you feel about the swords from Kaladesh Inventions? I love the art on F&F and L&S and will likely get one of each. Not sure about the F&I one, but anyway: When do you think is the right time to get them?
Holy crap dude scroll up: "On top of this, SFM. Do we really want to annihilate Zoo and Burn from the face of the Earth?". I understand you were speaking about Pod before but I just copied and pasted that sentence from your post. Stop pretending like you don't know what quote I am talking about. If you want to rephrase and say "Pod by itself annihilates aggro decks" then sure. I was specifically talking about SFM, which you mentioned in the above quote. It is not hard to see what I am talking about.
Pod has a problem of totally annihilating all of the aggro decks(meaning that the reason aggro decks maybe mainly annihilated is Pod). On top of this, SFM(meaning that the secondary reason may be SFM). Do we really want to annihilate Zoo and Burn from the face of the Earth(referring primary on Pod, then secondary/supplementary on SFM? (another problem- hitting too hard aggro decks)
So, IMO Pod by itself can easily deal with all of the aggro decks, and on top of that SFM could hurt them even more.
To back it up, Modern Nexus' article disagree with you saying "it would have no problems with it". There are data in there. It's your opinion and I respect it. But I have to trust data more than your opinion.
Stock vs. Burn Win %: 40% (20/50)
Mystic vs. Burn Win %: 66% (33/50)
Burn Win % Change: 26%
Again, I said Pod was not an ok unban
Ok, I read you. Pod ban would not be the end of the world as we know it, but I am still sceptical and this comes from a player that would have Pod as his main deck of his choice if it was to be unbanned.
To be fair, none of the lists tested with Mystic Abzan were adapted to accomodate the likely meta change going with it. Therefore, the 26% increase of Abzan is only true for an unprepared opponent and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Does anyone think there may be ZEN fetches in the 2016 commander decks? They are 4 colored this year, so they need some decent colorfixing. Putting 2 in each deck might be Wizard's band aid for the inflated prices. I don't see them in standard anytime soon, and C16 would be a good way to get reprints into the market.
If they are in C16, do you think they might drop to the level of the BFZ fetches?
It's free to cast if you wish and it exiles to be an answer for Cavern of Souls, but it is card disadvantage, requires a serious life cost to cast for free and reveals additional information to your opponent if you make it cheaper than UUU. It is also restricted to blue decks and requires a heavy blue commitment if you want to be able to cast it without life loss.
I am not sure if it could make it through Standard though.
If you want your 1-drops to ever resolve, you have to play Mental Misstep to counter theirs.
Lie
Actually, that is exactly what happened to Legacy. Look at this Top 16 from August 2011. 15 out of 16 decks ran MM, even non-blue decks had them in the sideboard. While Modern is not as heavily dependent on 1 mana cards as Legacy, there are still a great deal of very important 1 mana cards, as I listed in my previous post. There is way more than Thoughtseize. (You seem to really dislike the card, though)
By this logic Mana Leak prevents from playing ANY 3CC+ and half 2CC cards.
Why would it? Would you care to elaborate? I really don't see any major similarities between the two.
1. Mana Leak is not a free spell. You can safely play any spell if your opponent has less than 2 mana open.
2. Mana Leak is a soft counter.
3. Mana Leak becomes worse the longer the game goes.
If you could cast Mana Leak for zero mana then yes, it would be seriously bad.
If you want your 1-drops to ever resolve, you have to play Mental Misstep to counter theirs. If you choose to not play 1-drops, you are at a great disadvantage because you can't use your first turn and not play Bolts, Paths etc and still have to play Mental Misstep to try and make up for it somehow.
In essence, it really isn't about wanting to play Misstep or not. You just have to. It's that simple. In any case, this card is the definition of format warping. A little deceleration would be great, but not at any cost.
(BTW, imagine the price of Misstep - the Modern Prices thread would explode...)
2BG: B/G Creature Land becomes a 3/3 with deathtouch
and "Whenever a creature dealt damage by ~ dies this turn, put a
+1/+1 counter on ~."
May be to strong/too much text. "Whenever a creature dealt damage by ~ dies this turn, scry 1." would be nice too. I won't hold my breath for any of the two though.
No, everything will work as usual, although the sacrificed creature will end up in exile.
The only cards that can partly stop sacrificing are Sigarda, Host of Herons, Tajuru Preserver, and Angel of Jubilation, and even non of those could stop Exploit from happening, because it is a triggered ability (-> Angel only stops activated abilities or sacrificing as a casting cost) that only affects yourself (the other two don't do anything here).
The best way to stop Exploit are cards like Hushwing Gryff/Torpor Orb (Exploit won't trigger) or simply killing every creature your opponent controls in response to the Exploit trigger so they have nothing to sacrifice.
Edit: Killing the Exploit creature while its Exploit trigger is on the stack works even better, as it won't see if a creature is actually sacrificed. So killing Sidisi, Undead Vizier before the opponent gets to sacrifice anything prevents them from searching up a card.
artificialbrilliance asked:
Hey, wasn't Duels: Origins supposed to become available on Steam today? Did something happen to delay the release or something?
No delay! Duels is still launching on Steam today. Stay tuned!
Recent Modern tournaments have been diverse, with no deck dominating the metagame. Since Modern is a non-rotating format, banned cards never rotate out. The DCI is unbanning a card to see how that affects the format. We looked for cards that were on the initial banned list for Pro Tour Philadelphia. We wanted a card that would not easily slot into an existing top deck and also wanted to enable a deck with a different play pattern than the current top decks. After examining the options, Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle was selected as the card to unban.
It seems like there was no real need for any unban, but they did it anyway just to see what happens. They unbanned Valakut, because it slotted into no existing decks, it was never legal in modern before and provided a different playstyle than other top decks.
To me it seems that Sword of the Meek would fit exactly into that pattern as well. It won't slot into existing decks easily, it never saw modern light and it plays differently than current top decks. Additionally, "recent Modern tournaments have been diverse, with no deck dominating the metagame." So, why not unban SotM and "see how that affects the format"?

It's still coming today. Don't know if it will still be the 29th in Europe though...
