And we still don't know whether the non-draconians will be in absolute subservience to the broodlords or not. Might depend on the particular broods. Remember--in FRF, the dragons aren't really conquering so much as merely preying on non-draconians. For all intents and purposes, they're ALREADY dominant, since the khanates are for the most part on the defensive, but they're not ruling in any political sense of the term. Whereas I expect that while the broodlords may well be like kings in DTK, the khans are still like marquises, or possibly even dukes. Contrary to what Vol posits on Hellkite Overlord, is a benevolent or at least benign dragon really that vanishingly rare outside of Kamigawa?

The Tarkir dragons we witness thus far (base on story and cards) are a vicious bunch. Sentient, perhaps even wise, but they showed no intention of stopping their attack on Tarkirians. Ugin very much gave birth to all the dragons and never told them to stop toying with the less powerful races, the Tarkirians are beneath his notice.

Yes, the dragons were dominating in Fate Reforged, but in Dragons of Tarkir it's possible that they had fully earned the worship of their respective clans so they start wars against each other instead. The dragons had territories, now with the lesser races they'll be able to expand that territory.

So in the end, where Sarkhan sought to end the clan-battles by bringing back dragons, might end up only making it more fierce than ever. If that happens, I adore the irony, and find it perfectly fitting for someone who dare to manipulate the past for his own obsession.

What inspires your deckbuilding and/or play style?

I'm a Melvin Vortho Spike. I thrived with creative usage of mechanics, like puzzle pieces to form the grand tapestry, but also prefer the tapestry to be beautiful at the same time, one reason why Cytoshape is one of my al time favorite card.

I like Commander because it makes me design a deck accordingly to my chosen general, which allows me to combine all three of my characteristics.

Another question: Are you playing to win, or playing to play?

Both. It's very fun to beat my opponent with bizarre, non-cliche combos. I do, however, keep a few hardcore decks around just in case my opponent is an immense A-hole who bullies other players with internet decks. I teach him helplessness.

Final question: How much of your ego is invested in your potential win?

My ego is invested in winning with style, not brute force, because it takes creativity and skills to win unconventionally (or just an unprepared opponent). I cannot allow myself to just play a deck for a quick win.

Given all the hints given out during Ugin's Fate packs as well as DoT preview, Dragons of Tarkir is probably going to be where the non-draco residents of Tarkir finally submit to their enemies. I'm not comfortable with this outcome.

Yes, Ugin survived, a necessary hero in a multiverse full of formidable enemies, but Sarkhan might become the Khan (or prime slave) of Mardu dragons in this future, and I really don't want to see his face again. Misguided as Yasova was, she made a point that what Sarkhan deemed "worthy" in dragon-oppressed Tarkirians, to her it's like being hunted down like vermin. Yes, the Tarkirians were great, but the dragons were greater. Sarkhan failed to see that, his obsession with dragons is strictly one-sided admiration ignorant of ancient Tarkirians' welfare.

He remained a tool to the end, from one dragon to another. At least he's satisfied.

    1) My commander, Scion of the Ur-Dragon was shuffled into my deck via Oblation, and my opponent had amassed a huge army with his Kaalia. I'm gonna lose the next turn unless I drew that one card...

    I drew my commander.

My opponent thought he was going to win so he was already tapped out, and he was pretty sure that my commander couldn't do any good. I proceed to activate infinite mana combo by dumping Worldgorger Dragon into graveyard, revive it with Animate Dead, and cast Stroke of Genius on him for 3 billion cards.

    2) Then there's that one time when my opponent decided to play Phage the Untouchable, I Oblivion Ring her, then blasted the Ring with Beast Within. Apparently he didn't think about Phage's down side when he added it into his deck Grin

Do we even know if Sarkhan in the new present timeline is going to even be a planeswalker? I mean he'd still have his spark but would it necessarily be ignited? The fact that there will only be five factions and we know that Dragons rule in the future, Sarkhan might never have had the rapture that started him on his planes walking feet to begin with?

Either way Sarkhan's going to have the ecstasy of his life. He's been a dragon fetish for the longest time, a world where dragons rule over everyone is probably his most obvious wet dream. (And if he could, he might spread that doctrine the same way Phyrexians spread theirs, "compleatly".)

Honestly, it was clear to a lot of people that that was the direction they were going, so for a lot of us, Khans was kind of a wash. We couldn't get attached to it all since we knew it was going to end up being unwritten.

Knowing what will happen doesn't change the fact it's a loss to let a finely established era disappear so soon. If it was explored and expanded further, like Dominaria before the Time Spiral block, the current Tarkir wouldn't be so "gone". Even the Mirari storyline took two blocks to finish, Tarkir could've done the same before it "time-shifted".

The preview picture of Dragons of Tarkir showcases the Mardu clan was led by one of the Four-Wing dragons. So dragons went from extinction in Khans, to rivalry with the mortals in Fate, to being the leaders of the clans. Jeskai "Great Teacher" may well be a dragon at this point of future. The Khans became the lieutenant of the dragons, it appear, like Surrak is now a Hunt Caller.

It's kinda unfortunate, because the characters and storyline in Khans are so interesting, it's a shame to see them go away so soon in Dragon. Well, not go away, but altered, and unlike Planar Chaos which we knew is an alternated timeline, Dragons of Tarkir is very much a set-in-stone future.

    I'm gonna miss the Khans.

I haven't even examined the deck closely yet, just the theme alone makes it super awesome Grin Too few people build decks base on flavor.

Now onto the reading... Do you intend to use any green with it?

EDIT: Sorry, i see the green now. Grin Told you I didn't look closely.
Welcome to the dungeon, cyberium_neo. We've got fun and pain! Evil Lol Check my signature; I almost exclusively build theme decks.

From a design perspective, the idea behind Pain is Sacrifice is to give mono-B control access to all the goodies outside its slice of the color pie. Greater Good offers card draw without life loss as well as a way to recycle Tasigur for more delving if needed. For even more mana ramp, Boundless Realms makes Cabal Coffers an experience in greed fulfilled. Black has issues handling noncreature permanents which is where Beast Within and Wave of Vitriol come in. Life from the Loam recurs Coffers if lost to the Wave or anything else, but additionally gives us more targets for Tasigur. LftL is arguably more resilient than Crucible of Worlds, too. To get even more activations out of Tasigur, I find Prophet of Kruphix more useful than the Training Grounds some other decks are using. Personally, I'd much rather bring Prophet back to my hand than Grounds, but that's just me. Shrugs

As for the deck's U inclusions, Glen Elendra Archmage works beautifully in tandem with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. Pairing Kederekt Leviathan with Volrath's Stronghold is another way the deck reuses its resources.

Thanks again for the love! Smile

I played tested your deck and added Eternal Witness and Acidic Slime for functionality, although I wonder how I should fit them into the theme. The girl is simple, but the slime...

With all the land/creature shenanigans I added Bloodghast and Nether Traitor, but that brings up the aforementioned question of flavor...

As for the emo-boy-feel, I tried out Sorin Markov.

Addition discard comes from Delirium Skeins. Bottomless Pit works but requires more dedication to mend the random discard. Twilight's Call brings out a lot of hell with opponent's grave being empty.

Sakura-Tribe Elder and Guardian Idol are both popular in a B/G Death Cloud deck, the latter allow you to have a creature on board for attack. Frontier Siege can be additional mana ramp before and after you Cloud the board.

Bloodghast was a card I used in my version, not only it returns when you play a land, can be easily dumped into graveyard, and it also gains haste when your opponent is low on life after the Cloud. Damage wise, The Rack is a pain to deal with. There's also Spinning Darkness for additional pain.

I agree that Life from the Loam and Worm Harvest are both great choices given that they could function even in grave.

The new Torrent Elemental would be very powerful if you go for the enchantment/artifact mana route, although you'd need to find a way to exile it regularly. Too bad the mana from Food Chain cannot be used to fuel Death Cloud. Perhaps a new variant for later...

Maybe Whip of Erebos? That would require a lot more creatures though...

And because I resolve each EOT trigger from Skybind individually, I can do this with EACH 6+ CMC creature I control. Imagine the following scenario:
Board: Lands, Skybind, Sun Titan (exiled), Temur War Shaman (exiled)
    Graveyard: Dragon Fangs x2, Lightform
EOT, return Sun Titan, his ETB triggers Lightform, Lighform Manifests a card, Lightform triggers Skybind to flicker something. Both Dragon Fangs triggers resolve, attaching to Sun Titan, flicker Titan and the Manifested card from Lightform. Then, return Temur War Shaman. Manifest a card, then return both fangs, flickering the Shaman and the Manifested card.
Throw in an Eidolon of the Great Revel and you're drawing 5 cards through all this too. And each manifested card is a permanent that will then ETB and give its own ETB triggers and/or Constellation triggers too.

That is true, I forgot that multiple copies of Dragon Fang can create a better loop with Skybind.

Would Rancor be a better choice than Dragon Fangs, consider it's easy recur, cheap enough to be recast without burden, and works with manifested creatures better (since they have cmc of 0 and won't trigger DF)?

God-Favored General puts TWO token enchantment creatures into play, which triggers Skybind twice per trigger. Extra creatures also work well with Master of the Unseen, Aura Shards, and Eidolon of Blossom. If you go with the token routes, Spear of Heliod would be a nice addition as well, both pumps creatures and destroy attackers.

A notable combo of Heliod's Pilgrim with controlish aura such as Arrest of Faith's Fetters could be utilized with most of your cards. Technically, you can use Flickerwisp to exile the aura then return it to enchant another creature/permanent, and gain benefits again (such as from Fatih's Fetters).

Given Skybind's initial cost, I'd reduce it to 3 copies, down from 4.

You're correct, I did misread that. Triggering Equilibrium in such a deck seems difficult to me though. I guess we'd need a more complete list to really determine its power.

I really love the idea of Manifest, and I think in addition to bouncing we can also use Blink mechanic? Momentary Blink is one way to "unmorph" non-creatures and it could be utilizes to save those precious spells.

    If non-permanent: Bounce and cast.
If non-creature: Blink and return it to its original form.
If Oblivion Ring: "You've activated my trap card!"
