Objects on the stack resolve one at a time, and each time before the top object resolves all players must pass priority.
So yes, you can let Rayne's ability resolve, then use that card in response to the original spell.
Thank you very much.
I thought something didn't sound right in the answer provided. I have now provided them with the correct answer.
Knew I could count on you guys.
The answer provided was that you would search for a card named "Lazav, the Multifarous", because the ability looks at the name of the card itself, which is still Lazav. Is this accurate? If so what rules cover this?
Well after a quick read of Approach, it says "If this spell was cast from your hand, and you have CAST another SPELL named Approach of the Second Sun this game, you win."
The copy you make with Kefnet is cast, and indeed becomes a spell named "Approach of the Second Sun". And as long as the original was cast from your hand, then you would indeed win.
Approach doesn't care if the other one cast was a copy, just as long as it was CAST.
I mean if you find a way to blink him or kill him off (sac outlet) he’d work. Otherwise, he’s a one hit and then a 5/5 beatstick. Same with Bontu since they’re abilities are only ETB. Could be useful as a commander though if the deck is built correctly.
If you sacrifice Rhonas to Vannifar's ability, then his ability will trigger and go above hers on the stack. So Rhonas will be put into your library BEFORE you search and shuffle.
Not sure how Heartfire is a "slightly worse" Reckless Abandon.
I'll gladly take instant speed over sorcery speed at the cost of one more mana. Lets you use it in response to a board wipe or removal. Plus the added value of being able to sac a planeswalker is gravy.
Some interesting things for limited here.
Stealth Mission - I can see this ending a few games, especially when paired with the Wardscale Crocodile, 7/5 hexproof, unblockable. Both commons as well.
Rescuer Sphinx - Base rate of a 3/2 flyer seems good. And quite easily becomes a 4/3 flyer, while resetting an uncommon planeswalker.
Makeshift Battalion - The name is suitably apt, since it has 'battalion' and we see the Boros leading Simic and Dimir into battle.
Well after a quick double check on the rules for sagas, I found this:
714.2a: A chapter symbol includes a Roman numeral, indicated here as "{rN}." The numeral I represents 1, II represents 2, and III represents 3.
714.2b: "{rN}-[Effect]" means "When one or more lore counters are put onto this Saga, if the number of lore counters on it was less than N and became at least N, [effect]."
So when The Eldest Reborn entered the battlefield, with Doubling Season out, it went from 0 Lore counters to 2 Lore counters. Which triggers both acts at the same time. Now as you control both abilities, you control the order they go on the stack. So you can have your opponent discard first, or sacrifice first. Your choice.
But it is a no to your other question. If you have Doubling Season out and cast History of Benalia, you end up with four (4) tokens.
History of Benalia gets two lore counters, so chapter 1 and chapter 2 both trigger, but each chapter only triggers once. Each trigger would create one knight, but due to Doubling Season, it creates two knights. So you end up with four knight tokens total.
You must resolve all of the a spell/ability before anything else can even be added to the stack, let alone something else resolve.
So you complete the full ability of Evolving Wilds, search out your basic land AND shuffle your deck. Then once you are done, the game can put the landfall trigger from Retreat to Coralhelm onto the stack, which won't resolve until both players pass priority with that as the top of the stack.
The fact that there are full stops in the Evolving Wilds ability, doesn't change anything. It is still all one ability that has to fully resolve before anything else can happen in the game.
Aetherworks Marvel has you 'cast' the card. So as you are casting Pouncing Wurm, you can indeed kick it if you desire, by paying the kicker cost.
Also, when you have a question for the rules forum, please don't post in a thread that is nearly 2 years old. Just post a new thread for your question.
Protection means that the thing can't be damaged, enchanted, blocked or targeted by whatever it has protection from.
The ability granted by Dragon Throne of Tarkir to the equipped creature doesn't damage, enchanet, block or target anything. So yes, Progenitus will indeed also gain the trample and power/toughness bonus.
Navigator's Compass grants your land a basic land TYPE (ie Plains, Island, etc). It does not grant the land the supertype BASIC. If your land was not a basic land to start with, then it will not be a basic land afterwards.
So Navigator's Compass does not help save your non-basic lands from a Dust Bowl.
So yes, you can let Rayne's ability resolve, then use that card in response to the original spell.
Hope that helps.
And happy to report no issues with it.
Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded claims that honour... not that it is much of an honour to claim.
He did get a few firsts...

If Lazav, the Multifarious becomes a copy of Growth-Chamber Guardian, what card do you search for when Lazav gets a +1/+1 counter placed on it?
The answer provided was that you would search for a card named "Lazav, the Multifarous", because the ability looks at the name of the card itself, which is still Lazav. Is this accurate? If so what rules cover this?
Thank you in advance for the clarification.
