I say 1 is the right number here. Compare it to other t2 legendary lands like Minamo, School on Water's Edge, and Shinka, the Bloodsoaked Keep. They're all 1-ofs in their respective decks because they'll occasionally provide some use, but are terrible if seen in multiples during the same game.

Edit: looks like someone beat me to it. Smile Yay, 100th post.

I'm probably wrong, but the weird new art looks like a good match for Petrahydrox, a common card from The Izzet ("Petra-" =stone, "-hydro" =water).

Wasn't it rumored that Petrahydrox would have a sac effect (which would tie in to the graveyard theme)?

6/4 for 3RG..."meh." It's not at good as people will believe. Sure, it's efficient, but so is every other multi-colored common creature in Ravnica block (read: Golgari Rotwurm, Shambling Shell, Selesnya Sagittars, among others).

    Still, it is definitely playable.

Split cards are awesooommmmeee. As a result, Dissension will sell insane amounts of preordered booster boxes imo!

    My hopes:

    1W/1U

1W: Each creature can't attack until end of turn unless its controller pays 2 for each attacking creature.
    OR
    1U: Tap 2 target permanents.

    1U/1G

1U: Target creature gains flying (this effect doesn't end at EOT).
    OR
Target creature gains the landwalk of your choice (this effect doesn't end at EOT).

    YAY.

Only people who haven't been aound long would doubt that we'd get it in time. I've been around for every rumor season since Invasion's (that's 16 expansions and three base sets), and we've never faltered.

And this thread is kinda pointless. What will it accomplish?

I thought it would be fun to find out what people think. Wink

Edit: ...and right now, it seems like most people have great confidence in our info gatherers and their sources!

    Which do you predict?

    a. Yes, the GP spoiler will be complete by 11:59pm this Friday.

    b. No, it will not.

    c. I don't have a clue.

    ---------------

I say "Yes!" After all, who could ever doubt the hard work of R_E, seds and sources?

I also agree, but I think a specification is in order. It's Gruul beatdown that many are overrating atm, not necessarily the entire guild. As others have pointed out in various threads, R/G LD running Wildfire, Stone Rain, Wreak Havoc, and a Gruul finisher or two will be highly playable in a couple months. So while I agree that most of the beatdown cards seem overly spectacular, I think that other cards within the guild are getting less focus, despite their viability.

...trolling? ... Pardon, but this hardly seems like trolling to me. The guy who wrote this (bluesoul) said that Ravnica was bad, and then proceeded to detail why he thought it was so. Was there something that you edited out? Because as it stands, it sounds to me like a guy voicing his own opinion and getting warned about it because he's in the minority.

But Caffeine, bluesoul didn't use "I think" or "I believe" to start his critique. Wink

Anyway, on topic: I've read the first few chapters of Ravnica (book I) and so far am unimpressed. One thing that irks me in particular is Herndon's seemingly forced attempts to project Ravnica's natural imagery. It read like something I would write--a good attempt at description, but ultimately quite trite.

Also, the plot flow is at times discordant, and the characters are too stereotyped (specifically, Kos and crew--beer brawls in a bar? C'mon!).

Of course, I haven't finished the book, so I may be missing out on some of the better written chapters.

I think that Storm Herd is actually an Azorius card. Running U/W Storm Control could be useful, using Meloku and countermagic to stall while building to 10 mana, with a bunch of lifegain thrown in.

Meloku is a win condition in itself. Its primary function is to win you the game, not to stall until you can win by other means.

StormHerd.dec would simply be a sub-par version of Enduring Ideal.dec, a deck that already has problems defeating MUC.

I don't think Niv wins necessarily.

    Care to elaborate, Omen?

I personally think Niv is a house and has "I win" written all over it with errata "...unless you can kill me before my controller's next untap step." He combines card draw with burn, a whole lotta card advantage all in one.

Could the green top signify SDT's synergy with the GP enchantment Killer Instinct? Maybe that's a stretch.

In my experience, draft games tend to take longer because the decks are not fine-tuned and can easily stall. This being the case, my first choice would be a Djinn Illuminatus. Many games I have played in drafts have gone well into the teens, and some even to the twenties in the number of turns they have taken. The Djinn would turn every instant and sorcery into an x spell, and when you have time to get out most of your mana, how long can a game last when you hold a hand of x's? Even a cheap ping spell could kill.

I don't agree at all. Sealed games are known to last much longer on average than draft games, imo, making the 3/5 flyer for 7cc a bit too expensive, even with its ability. By the time you have the mana to cast the Djinn, you'll most likely be topdecking, and with the average deck playing somewhere between 2 and 5 instants/sorceries, the bonus becomes much less appealing. Just my 2 cents.

    AMEN.

And I am wondering indeed what we will get at the pre-release. Somewhere (like Caranthir said) I am still hoping to get 5 GP boosters, so we can fully concentrate on those guilds instead of having it mixed (messed even) up. That would make sense since they want to have guild decks...

Has Wizards said that it WILL be Ravnica starter + 3 Guildpact boosters?

    mtg.com Guildpact minisite: http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/prerelease/guildpact

It has all the info, including products and formats availible.
And yes, Salomar, sealed will officially consist of 1 Ravnica tournament pack and 3 GP boosters.

Why would your run Kodama of the North tree in LD? to get it killed?
Run Magnivore a much better choice.

I'd take out a Wildfire or two and add a Slum and a Top.

Mimeofacture? How is THAT a bomb limited card? They probally wont even have two of anything.

Honestly, most of that list isn't even close to first pick (Storm Herd would be good if it cost like.... way less.) a lot of the cards you listed are expensive, and usually in a triple second or third set draft the key is to get lots of the good commons/uncommons because you'll see them so often. For example in one triple Betrayers deck I saw 8 Shimmering Glasskites and then like two Jetting Glasskites and some random guys to fill the curve. Bombs are nice, but thats all you really need.

If you'd read the whole thread, you would have noticed that I first listed all the rares we know of that are at least possibly first picks. I disregarded only the rares that are definitely NOT bombs, and kept the rest, regardless of the remaining cards' first-pickability(:tongue3:). The second list has all the first picks IMO.

So yes, some of the cards on the first list will not usually be first picks, but hey, some members may think otherwise. I left the list as open as possible for discussion's sake.
