I'd argue that this is equal, if not slightly better than Gravecrawler. Lots of context, but there aren't a ton of zombies for Gravecrawler to be too reliable.
I was thinking the exact same thing. In my cube the number of Zombies is starting to go down.
A lot happened since I last posted here.
My list is still up here: http://www.cubetutor.com/viewcube/5816
But, since a while it's a 360 Powered list.
This has up- and downsides which I will not get into now.
Going to 360 made me streamline the cube a bit more, the potential for broken plays is certainly there often now.
I also want aggro to be viable but so far I don't see a lot of people getting the right decks for it in this cube. To be clear, I'm not blaming them, but the contents of this cube ;-)
Can you guys helps me by making a few suggestions in this direction?
I'm thinking that aggro should be mono white, mono red, red/white or red/black. The white deck should play like a prison / disruptive deck, the red one like a true burn/aggro deck and the black version like a recurring beaters deck.
Thanks for writing it up! Always nice to have a nice summary per set.
I have the top 4 as my inclusions for my 360 cube so I agree with your vision on those. Pelt Collector and Legion Warboss are not for my cube. Still thninking about Doom Whisperer...
I like this card.
Some Magic Christmas land scenario but it's possible in my cube:
T1: play this guy
T2: Flash + Deranged Hermit. Attack with a 6/6 and still have 4 Squirrels left
The ability will check again on resolution thanks to the intervening if clause, so you'll get just one +1/+1 counter.
He does play great with something like Keldon Marauders though.
Man I need to not post when it's late. Good catch! But I can also Flash Terrastodon, I can get a few more counters, right ?
like it for the constructed potential. In cube, I just don't see it..It's big, and (EDIT: OTHER STUFF) gets bigger when you tap creatures. No evasion or trample, just cheap fat.

Don't fall for the nice buildaround trap, people.
As stated by others as well, you need to build your deck to take advantage of this, and you need the 5 casting cost enchantment in play before you get any of the cool stuff.
This is fun and probably more realistic in Commander, Brawl, maybe even Sealed and Draft, but not Cube.
The comparison with Dictate of Heliod is justified and makes this seem very bad in comparison.
The main thing to me is what an absolutely massive blowout it is if he gets removed with the mentor trigger on the stack after you pump. The mentor ability checks again on resolution, so you won't even get a counter.
Would this not use last known information? Is that still a thing in the rules?
I think you are correct. I assume the trigger would still resolve and put a counter, using last known information.
I don't think I can say anything constructive in response to that, so I'll just have to say that I 100% disagree with absolutely everything you just said.
I do get the point that was made there. You are after all putting a bear in a deck that might not want to play it. And if you need its abilities, you do have to sacrifice it. Given that red is commonly agressive in cube, that's not the best fit. I do like that it's baiscally a SB card in RDW that you might actually play game 1.
On the other hand, I think the fact that other non-agressive red strategies in cube are often supported means this card's value goes up.
I expect this card to stick for a while. It does also still leave room for an even better version of this card in the future
I agree with the above poster. I think Deathrite Shaman provides something that isn't removal and for that reason will be keeping it. The cut will be Abrupt Decay.
I have spent tons of hours reading these forums. I consider this website my primary source for spoilers, cube discussions and deck primers. Very sad to see it come to an end. Thanks for everything!

Is it crazy to consider cutting cards like Zo-Zu the Punisher, Flametongue Kavu, Daretti, Scrap Savant, Hazoret the Fervent, Guttersnipe, Burning of Xinye in favor of cheaper stuff with a faster damage output? After all, red still has plenty of stuff for the decks that want to play Sneak Attack or Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.
Any suggestions in red, white or black?
