The format is in a bad spot. Unless Wizards prints something intended to impact Modern i dont see the format slowing down in any way. No unbans are safe or create a format better than the current one. SFM would be insane in Bant Eldrazi, Abzan, basically any and every white deck and that is why it cant come off. Jace likely wouldnt impact the format besides create a new expensive staple for a struggling archetype. Cantrips wont help. What answers are they trying to find? The same answers we have now that people complain about?

I hate to say it but maybe Pod? It had decent matchups across the aggro meta. Finks/Rhino/Resto/Thragtusk are strong. It was keeping the aggro decks like Zoo out of the format, it is hard to hate out but there are better answers to it. But also it makes every new creature potentially busted if it fits well.

Well, assuming we get 15 Mythics, 2 from each color we get 5 multi-color mythics. Maybe they cut a couple from colors to add more to the multi color or colorless mythics spot. Prime Time, Goyf, Craterhoof all fit the bill for big green mythic. We also have to take into account what else they put in. If they drop a ton of value in the forms of Snap, Lili, Cavern, any good playable and stable card it will decrease the chance of Goyf being in the set. They cant put every staple and every expensive card into a set just because it can be. Especially since there was public outcry for bad uncommons last time around, Wizards will likely put value in that spot too. If anything, i wouldnt be surprized to see Goyf get held back for another set they want to sell. Maybe the next Eternal set. Or maybe they do it in Conspiracy 3 and it drops like a rock. It just doesnt mean Goyf has to be in the set.

Im going to try a version with Nahiri + Emmy and another with a Walker package of Ajani Vengeant, Ugin and Elspeth Suns Champion.

Also the Madcap's are cheap, probably picking up a set or two.

Looking at why all the cards are banned on there and my thoughts as to why/what should be unbanned:
    • Artifact lands(except Citadel) because Affinity was too powerful with them
    • Birthing Pod because of the namesake toolbox deck
    • Blazing Shoal because Infect was too good
    • Bloodbraid Elf because Jund was too good(but I definitely would have preferred a Goyf ban)
    • Chrome Mox because free mana(could just as well have banned Mox Opal)
    • Cloudpost because it made Tron too powerful Not Tron, 12 Post
    • Dark Depths because it was the more powerful of the Thopter Depths combos
    • Deathrite Shaman because it made Dredge too powerful Not Dredge, JUND/JUNK
    • Dig Through Time because they thought it would replace Treasure Cruise(Should be experimentally unbanned.)
    • Dread Return because it's responsible for lots of turn 1 combos using it, Spy, and Narcomoeba
    • Eye of Ugin because it made Bantdrazi too good Not Bantdrazi, just Eldrazi
    • Glimpse of Nature because it made Cheerios too good Elves, not Cheerios
    • Green Sun's Zenith - it's a mystery! Dryad Arbor, Zoo, also helped ramp decks
    • Hypergenesis - pobably because with Cascade, it would let us hyper-Show-and-Tell.
    • Jace, the Mind Sculptor because it was too good
    • Mental Misstep because it fit everywhere and countered everything
    • Ponder, Top and Preordain because too much card advantage
    • Punishing Fire because it got flashback'd too often. Stopped aggro from existing
    • Rite in Flame and Seething Song because they made Storm too good
    • Second Sunrise because Eggs can go off any turn and when it does, the turns seem endless.
    • Skullclamp because Affinity was still dominant without artifact lands, and the card advantage factor was too high. BROKEN card
    • Twin because the namesake combo deck was too good
    • Stoneforge Mystic because Caw-Blade was too good(and then they printed Puresteel Paladin and Sigarda's Aid, though? Really?)
    • Summer Bloom because the Amulet Bloom combo was too good(and then they forgot to ban Azusa. Seriously.)
    • Treasure Cruise because it's Ancestral Recall in Burn and Dredge
    • Umezawa's Jitte because getting two of the modes each turn is just stupid

I think that DTT should be unbanned. It was banned without an example of a format it affected. I also want Bloodbraid unbanned, but only if Goyf or Lili is banned at the same time.

Just a few changes, you seem new, just wanted to clarify why certain things were banned.

Jund and Dredge are the two decks i have been playing the most. I also added 3 Collective Brutality to my list a few days ago, thought it was real strong and im glad its kicking butt. Although, this worries me, i hope Jund stops top 8'ing everything so i dont have to worry about another ban.

Dredge is tearing it up. Greater Gargadon and Bridge are going to spike. Pretty absurd, hopefully you guys bought in cheap!

I took this to a 2nd place finish yesterday in a PPTQ, going 4-1-1 in swiss (ID'd in round 6 for top 8), and losing in the finals to Through the Breach (Same deck I lost to in the Finals)

    Round 1: UW Control 2-0
    Round 2: Ad Nauseam 2-0
    Round 3: Jund 2-0
Round 4: Through the Breach 0-2
    Round 5: Infect 2-0
Round 6: ID (Was playing Scapeshift)

    Finished 4th after Swiss

    Quaters: Grixis Goodstuff 2-1
    Semis: Affinity 2-0
    Finals: Through the Breach 1-2

I feel that Evo is super strong in this deck and I think it pushes the deck further. Being able to Evo down CMC is insane, and being able to Evo into your 2/3 drop bullet cards off a T1 dork is pretty nuts as well, I misplayed the finals quite horribly and believe that I could have won if I didn't mess up.

What kind of Through the Breach deck? GR? UR?

Im playing UR Breach right now, and with an insane win rate at that, but i just splashed white for a Fountain and Plains for a pair of Nahiri's i got for me and my buddy placing 1st and 2nd at FNM, he was playing Breach and i was on Jund. What does white offer that i am missing from Breach? An almost better sideboard? Helix? Both decks are doing the same thing and one can get it done turn 5 and catch people off gaurd.

Breach only deals 15 damage, sometimes your opponent will just sac all lands and win with his remaining creatures. Additionally breach is weaker against cards like slaughter games or discard, as discrading your breach often leaves you with a bad hand. The looting ability of nahiri increases makes the deck more consistent and with path you can remove bigger threads. I played breach for a while and often had trouble beating other control decks. Grixis for eample is hardly beatable, as they run threads you can't remove, have discard and cheaper counters.

Breach deals 15 but the Emrakul trigger makes them sac their board, against almost every deck thats resetting them back to the begining of the game with not a lot of life and fewer ways to come back. I dont think i have ever attacked with my hasty Emrakul and lost a game. I can see why in the late game an Emmy coming off a Nahiri wont be able to do as much as an Emmy a turn, 2 or 3 sooner. I feel like none of you guys have played the deck i am talking about, it runs so much interaction. My main deck is Jund, so we always play test the matchup. Game 1 is heavily in the favor of Breach. Games 2 and 3 come down to Thoughtseize or S-Games. Otherwise, Jund cant win.

I dont know what the rest of you guys are saying about them having a field presence at all remaining because thats never happened after getting the combo off. Once Through the Breach resolves the game just ends. The other player either dies or has such a low life total that a Snap, Clique, Bolt, Electrolyze, anything can finish them off. I feel like from your guy's point of view, Emrakul is coming in much later in the game if at all, and it might not be enough at that point in the game to close it. But in all of my testing, in owning my UR Through the Breach deck longer than Nahiri has been legal, the deck is faster, the average cmc is much lower, and in the two events i have gotten to play in with it, it has gone 7-1 in total wins/loses. I dont get to play in paper often anymore, i have only gotten to play in 10 events all year long, including FNM's and GPTs, so i dont have any further evidence to prove how good it is in the current meta game. But ill come back every once in a while and post my recent results with it. There are 6 PPTQ's coming up locally and i will likely try Breach there.

My store does TNM and FNM Modern, the Tuesday's are $10 entry so the pay out is better, the better players show up.

FNM there are usually 5-6 Draft Pods all night long and we draw between 15-30 for Modern depending on the night.

Im straight RG as well. I run something like 36 lands in my list. Similar spells. Eternal Witness seems too cute, as does Axe, Worm Harvest.

The matchup is real easy against Tron. Get Loam/GQ and its all ogre.

A good way to beat Ad Naus is putting in a set of Leyline of Sanctity instead of Dragon's Claw. Stops Gifts, Storm, Burn, Ad Naus, ect.

EDIT: Also Young Pyromancer/Flame Jab is a pretty good value play.

Hey guys, i need some advice. I currently have Jund(can convert to Junk), Bogles (without Canopy, i just built this last week), U-Tron, UR Through the Breach, Death and Taxes. I have 6-7 PPTQs coming up and i want to crush them. I normally play Jund but lately i have been facing Tron and other decks that try to just go bigger. I really like Bogles for that reason but i also dont have the Canopys and due to being 19 and needing to save my money for my car i cannot get them until the Spring at the earliest. UR Through the Breach is my little pet, its so much fun. It functions similarly to old Twin lists and once it gets to 5 mana gets a Breach and an Emrakul down. Its really consistent, i have built two versions and we just got the Eldrazi Wish spoiled im brewing with. I played Pod for a year before it got the hammer, switched to Junk, and then to Jund. So i have most of my experience with that shell. Lots of big mana decks in the area, i have Fulminators, Crumble, Slaughter Games in the board but it still seems bad.

If you want to beat big mana decks like Tron I would go with Infect. It has great game against these decks by being faster than them and them not playing enough (suitable) interaction. I wouldn't go with Bogles though. I don't play it myself so I could be wrong here but I would expect Bogles to have bad game against Tron as well because of the big amount of sweepers Tron plays.

Infect would be pretty good except there are more UR/URW players here than any other archetype. My local meta has like 10-15 people always playing blue based control even when it isnt good. Paths, Snaps, Bolts, everywhere. I can consistently beat those decks down with my Jund deck but the top tables are all riddled with Tron and Valakut/Breach decks. Im thinking i just have to have Crumble in my SB along with the Mages and S-Games.

Also i dont have alot of money, so buying a new deck is pretty much out of the question.

My store started doing the same thing. I have Jund and Twin built for it. The fair decks are really powerful, you need answers to Affinity, Delver, Storm, Elves, Infect, and "fair" decks. Also Eldrazi is insane in this format. Im contemplating building it next for this format as i have most of the pieces besides the Chalices.
