Greetings from an old member! Sam11111 and Phyrexian should remember me from a few years ago...anyway, im selling off my cards, check out my ebay auctions:
Still blown away by Australia's amazing win...strong contender for greatest Australian sporting moment (maybe that will be overshadowed when we go 3-1 over brazil on sunday (or when we beat England in the ashes 5-0 :D:D:D:D))
1) as its been said, the deck has no distruption - it lacks a method to mess with the opponents game plan, and every other deck in the format can
2) the deck is vulnerable - in testing there were a few matches where i drew nothing but land and one of the 16 accelerants - accelerating into nothing is not great
3) without greater good the deck can't draw cards - and even with greater good, most of the creatures cant be sacced to draw cards
anyway IMO this deck is very far away from the best deck in the format. In fact there really is no 'best deck' in a format this diverse.
Anybody got any thoughts on Australia? we are playing in our second world cup (last one was 74), but have Guus Hiddink as coach, and some good players (Kewell, Viduka, Cahill, Kennedy)
I agree with Ender Wiggen - those enchantments can wreck decks. Maybe Simic Sky Swallower should come out tho, with those 4 supply demand that could really hurt
Thats my game plan. It turns the deck from a straight control deck to a tempo-control deck.
If you cant get pithing needles, id suggest Azorius Guildmage, its not ideal, but can double as a beater
EDIT: The IT - i looked at that decklist: im not sure about the lack of counters and the lone final judgement, surely you dont want to remove Firemane from the game, thats the strength of the deck, the ability to wipe the board and yet keep gaining life and eventually reanimate the angel.
Im not sure about Traumatize...i have 1 meloku sb if they run needles on my windreaver.
Also i have taken out the signets, i prefer to control the tempo in the early turns via electrolyze and remand. Also if Wildfire is resolved early, u dont wanna draw a signet.
I've been testing this deck for only a few weeks for my regionals (June 10), and i've got a few questions/statements for the more experienced players of the deck:
1) Signets: I'm not 100% sure why the signets are played. I've found in testing that i generally do not play them on turn two if i have them, because i need to keep mana open for counters. Recently i have tried dropping the four signets and adding 2 more lands and 2 more counters (hinders). This brings me to my second point...
2) Counterspells: I have tested from between 8 counters (4 mana leak, 4 remand) and 14 (4 mana leak, 4 remand, 3 hinder, 3 spell snare/rewind). At the moment I am leaning towards 11, with 4 leakand remand and 3 spell snare. But Rewind is great tech against gigadrowse, and heartbeat in general, and hinder is also a very strong card.
3) Gifts Ungiven: I took the gifts out earlty in testing, and see that a lot of other people have also. If someone who plays Gifts would like to share with the rest of the class why they do so, that would be excellent.
3) Sideboard:
4 pithing needle- good against husk, heartbeat, ghost dad and other random decks.
4 descendant of kiyomaro - fantastic against aggro.
3 shattering spree - takes out opponents pithing needles, and other random artifacts that may show up, such as sunforger, etc
4 sacred ground - against 'Vore - is 4 too many? i think it is
Anyway if anyone would like to help me out thats great, I'll post a decklist sometime soon.
Oh, and MD? Remember there is no such thing as a venomous spider, snake, frog, fish, jellyfish, rock or any other thing in Australia, it is all a rumour put around by the aussies to stop you petting things . . .
Are you kidding? Australia has the most venemous and dangerous of all those animals (especially the rocks)...tiger snakes, taipan etc, redback spider, black widow, whitetail, etc. box jellyfish, blue ringed octopus...lemme tell u this: australia is a great place, but just dont touch anyhing. DON'T! TOUCH! ANYTHING!
but what i would watch out for most is the drop bears...i dont even want to tell you about the atrocious wounds inflicted by those little buggers.
Oh, and Rebelmage: where abouts did u live in Melbourne?
