A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

So I was looking at the first post of this thread and the ensuing discussion, and I'm wondering, why am I still on the casual customers list? I guess I made 7 posts in the last thread, but I can't remember the last time I've been on Salvation.

Anyway, hi everyone. I don't know how many of you remember me, but I was a regular here, oh I don't know, like a year and a half ago? Well I just got an IM from Cecilia, and I figured I'd stop by and say hello to everyone. I know it's been a long time, but since I used to be so involved here, I thought people might want to hear how I'm doing or whatever.

So yeah, I just finished my first year at Carleton College, a small liberal arts school in Minnesota (and coincidentally the same school that Joyd, a former member, went to). It was a great year, and I made a ton of new friends and got a good education. My life has really changed, just based on my new friends and living situation. I've changed a lot as well, and I think I've come out of my shell a little socially and mentally. I still don't really know what I'm going to major in, but I'm leaning towards philosophy or religion, and maybe math. As far as extracurriculars, I took a year off cross-country and track, and I'm not sure I'll go back. I've gotten pretty into ultimate frisbee, and am considering trying out for the A or B team in the fall, both of which are really really good. If I don't make those, I want to find some group to join, because I regret not being part of a group my freshman year, other than my hall.

Unfortunately, I've completely stopped playing or following Magic, partly because I've just been too busy with college and other things in my life, and partly just because no one I know plays it. That's probably a big reason why I haven't been here at all, although I think it's mostly just because my life has changed so much. I am still really into baseball and the Yankees, and I've actually become a core member of a much smaller forum of Yankee fans. I don't post there as much as I used to post here, and I'm happy about that, because I don't think its a good idea to spend all your time on an online forum. Anyway, I'm glad I have a community there where I can talk about something I really enjoy with cool people, just like I did here before. It feels like so much longer than a year or two that I was a regular here, probably because I have changed so much since then. I don't regret the time I spent here, but I am happy that I've moved on. I am thankful for the friendships I formed here, and the community I was able to be part of during my tough high school years. Hopefully you are all doing well, especially Alacar, Omna, and Cecilia, the members I got to know best here.

So yeah, that's my life. I'll probably check back for a few days to see if anyone replies to this; if not, see you all until next time I randomly decide to check in.

    Strongbad out.

I'm so pissed about Prop 8. I voted in California, so I guess it's even more personal for me. I can see why some people would rather have civil unions than marriages, but passing Prop 8 is just going in a completely wrong direction. I don't care what you think about homosexuality, it's discrimination and demeaning for gays to pass Prop 8.

In Minnesota, the Senate race between Franken and Coleman is super close. At one point last night, I looked and Franken was down 78 votes out of over 2 million, which is insane. Now I think he's down about 500, which is so close that they have to recount. I really hope he wins; he visited my campus last week and he was awesome.

I actually didn't dress up for Halloween this year. I never came up with a good costume idea until like the 28th and by then, all of the stores were out of the materials I needed in order to make the costume proper. But as Chicago Cubs fans always say, "There's always next year."

So basically, I'm loving college life. There are some downsides, like I still miss my mom and dad and sister, and one of my suitemates is a total jackass, but aside from that I really love being here in Boston. The city itself is so great. Filled with great little restaurants and stores all of which are right next to national historical landmarks, its so weird. The other day I saw a marker for where Samuel Adams' house used to be, and it happened to be right in front of a Crate and Barrel, so yeah.

How is everyone else been doing in my absence?

Ugh, Boston.... But seriously, that's cool that you're doing well. Where are you going again? I have a friend at Tufts and a friend at Wellesley (which I think is all girls actually).

I'm feeling the same way. College life is so fun. My floor is so close, it's awesome. We pretty much do everything together, and all of them are so cool. The other night we spent like 3 hours just talking about really deep stuff in our lives, something that I've never really done before. It was such a cool experience, and probably one of my best nights so far this year. I feel like I already have better friends in college after 7 weeks than I did in high school after 4 years.

So for Halloween, I dressed up as Stuart from MadTV. If you don't know who he is, just look up "Stuart MadTV" on YouTube and he'll show up. It's the funniest skit ever. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but it was a pretty good costume.

Oh, and hi again everyone :).

Nice convo, guys. I like it, something I can relate to...:p. Just to contribute, I am 18 and a virgin, and am with those who want to wait for the perfect person. I'm definitely going to wait at least 6 months into a relationship before I think about sex...well that's a lie. I'll think about sex, but hopefully I'll have the self-control to wait until I know it's the right person.

Just got back from my first class!! Comparative Political Regimes...it seems like it's going to be really hard, but hopefully pretty interesting. I like that we're studying pretty modern governments rather than Stalin and Hitler and whatnot.

    Multivariable Calculus next...yay math!!

I'd just like to contribute to the conversation by saying that GUITAR HERO FREAKING ROCKS!!! I don't actually own it, but I played it at my friend's house all the time, and I got super addicted. Unfortunately, no one on my dorm floor has a system that can play it (all we got is an N64) so I'm out of luck until I find someone who has it. But yeah, I love Guitar Hero.

Hey SB! Good to seeya Grin In college now, eh? Kekeke That's cool. We have been a little slow, but now we're on an upswing, I'd say. Let's hope you can stick around.

Thanks, Alacar! Yeah, I can tell it's pretty slow around here. But it seems like we still have a lot of the old regulars posting often, although maybe some new ones wouldn't hurt either. I figure in college I have a lot more time to just sit around on the computer and stuff, so maybe I'll stay more active here than I have been at least.

Wuddup, Coffeehouse!!! Remember me, lol? Man, I haven't been on Salvation in forever. How is everyone? It actually looks like about the same people here as when I was here. Haha, I just read up, looks like I'm not the only one returning recently.

So, about me, I just moved into college a few days ago at Carleton College in Minnesota, where Joyd just graduated from. It's pretty sweet so far, although it's pretty weird just being in a completely new place with completely new people. Still, I have an awesome room and dorm, and the weather isn't too bad (for now). Hopefully classes will be good when they start this Monday. I'm looking forward to when life gets kind of normal, unlike now when I'm busy going to freshman activities 24/7.

Anyway, it's nice to back here and I hope you guys are doing well. Hopefully I can stop in more often now.

I think it really depends on what type of system you are looking for. The Wii is a great party system, it is cheap, it's backwards compatible, and I think it has some really creative and unique games to play. The 360, on the other hand, is more of a classic system, with regular controllers and lots of fun one-player games like Halo and GTA4. The price on the 360 is also not too bad, especially compared to the PS3.

    Heres how I see it:
Wii: Cheap, fun party-style Nintento games, SSB Brawl (awesome)
360: Better graphics, more classic FPS and single-player games, GTA4 (also awesome)

By the way, I am biased because I only have the Wii, but I do love some 360 games, and my Wii games are starting to get a little old.

Hey guys, I thought I would stop in again and make my monthly visit to the 'House. I just saw the thing about PolarBearGod; man, that is so sad. I didn't even know him, but I feel depressed nonetheless. It's just so hard to see someone go like that at such a young age.

Well, I just graduated from high school a few days ago, so I'm finally free and on to my next stage in life at Carleton College. I'm so excited just to get out of the house and live without my parents finally. But yeah, summer is finally here, and things are good (although I still can't seem to find a summer job, but I'm still looking.)

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the start of summer.

Wow, time has passed, hasn't it? I haven't been here in what, 2 months? Anyway, I was just thinking about the Coffeehouse and I thought I would stop in and say hi to all my favorite Magic geeks :p. Plus, I wanted to give an update on my life, especially to Joyd, if he is still here.

Well, I decided on college finally, and funny enough, I'm going to Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, the college that Joyd is about to graduate from. It was a really hard decision for me between that and Haverford (PA), but I'm super excited about Carleton, and I know it will be awesome, albeit uber-cold. So now that college is out of the way, all I have to do is finish all of my stupid IB tests, which are hell, but not super important, other than for getting college credits, and then I'm done.

So I see some new faces and a lot of old ones; how is everyone? I miss talking to you guys.

Pick a card out of your hand at random. If it is a creature card, you may play it without paying its mana cost. If it is not, discard your hand.

Are you serious? I'm against VesuvanUS again?!?! I know it's been a few months, but this has to be the 4th or 5th time we've been matched up against each other lol. Well good luck to you :p.

Theme: Color-matters. Not like Ravnica, with color pairs being the focus, but the individual colors and changing colors being the focus. Chromate is the key ability in the block and set, and is the focal point for the whole feel of the set.

    Dusk Angel 3BBB
    Creature - Angel
    Flying
Chromate (When you play this spell, it is this card's color. Otherwise, it is the color of the last spell played (even when it isn't in play).)
T: Destroy target creature if it shares a color with a creature you control.
She matches the color spectrum of sunset with the pain spectrum of death.
