So, Andrea Menguci just went 5-0 on MTGO with an Izzet Murktide list with Delver instead of Ragavan, a list he took from Carlos Moral. The whole video is here: No Ragavan? No Problem! 5-0 with UR Delver in Modern! | MTGO and this is the the decklist:
So is Izzet Delver viable again thanks to Dragon's Rage Channeler, or is it actually so good that it has totally displaced Delver as the 1 mana 3 damage beater? I've seen some list using Delver in combination with DRC, Murktide Regent and of course Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer. Some lists don't even have Delver... That monkey seems to be too good and probably will end up banned soon, so I don't want to risk buying it, and besides I also want to play with Snapcaster Mage, so I'm thinking on running this list:
What happens if I control both Keranos, God of Storms and God-Eternal Kefnet when I draw the first card on my turn? Do both abilities trigger, or do I get to choose just one? What confuses me is the "this way" part, I don't know if it refers to simply showing the first card drawn or if it specifically refers to the fact that is being shown by result of one of the abilities
There seems to be an ongoing reference to the number three in plenty of cards from the set, like the art of a couple of pirate cards picturing a group of three pirates, the art in spires of orazca showing three spires, jace creating two other copies of itself, and now most recently the flavor text of the temple of aclazotz mentioning "the Threefold Sun". Has anyone else notice this? And what will it mean for rivals of ixalan? It reminds me to all the clues to emrakul back during shadows over innistrad
I need help with the card database, is missing most of the Kamigawa block flip cards. Do I add them manually in a custom set file or is there a place where I can download a full cards.xml file with all the cards in it (no cards missing)
I have been testing the deck on cockatrice and so far I like it, it feels less aggressive than grixis but more resilient. I haven't tested Mentor, but I think it can work without much support, but would be better in a build with some Surgical Extractions main... imagine turn 2 Collective Brutality discarding souls, turn 3 mentor and surgical...
Love this deck idea a lot, the sample decklist is full of cards I love, not sure of 4 Fatal Push, maybe one too much, time and meta will tell. I like the idea of playing Queller and Souls alongside Delver, Snap and Tasigur. I'll be keeping up with this thread... good work
Edit: With 3 Tasigur, we can easily fit a Murderous Cut, I would play that list with -1 Fatal Push +1 Cut. Delving with cut helps with selecting what we want to get back with Tasigur
@CurdBros Just recently traded one reveler and I'm going to see how it goes in Grixis Delver, swapping the single angler for it.
@RafiqEDH My bad... I'll have to admit that I missed your list some posts up. It pretty much is what I wuould run these days, except maybe for Pyromancer instead of Mentor... sweet indeed, too bad snapcaster couldn't fit, but the other creatures serve the aggressive strategy of the deck better... I will like very much to know how it goes for you
...I believe we are still the strongest Delver variant out there just as Curdbros as mentioned above, we have the best answers to these threats and probably the strongest ability to sideboard. Now is the time we start getting ready for these cards to be brought in and having answers already created MB or SB to deal with these.
I don't want to rain on your parade but just to bring a point, the issue with Jeskai Delver has never been its answers or its sideboard, but its threats... you can't ignore the advantage Grixis and Temur have with their threats, namely Tasigur and Tarmogoyf/Mandrills, all of them pass the bolt test and all except tarmo pass the decay test, but tarmo makes up for that with extreme efficiency. Sadly, color white doesn't offer creatures of that caliber, the deck has to make up with either Geist of Saint Traft, Monastery Mentor, Mantis Rider or Spell Queller (if I'm missing one please correct me), all but geist dying to both bolt and decay, but geist can be chump blocked easily... that's the reason I've been running Grixis rather than Jeskai for almost a year now, but I still keep up with the thread and hoping a new creature comes that makes Jeskai worth trying again, or that someone works a build that manages to win with the available creatures (I for one don't have the time to work that out, barely play modern once or twice a month these days). The only creature I've seen printed these days that can survive both bolt and decay, has cmc 2-3, and can be a real beater is Bedlam Reveler, but the issue with it is that it requires a more all-in and aggressive approach leaving us a bit vulnerable, and I haven't seen anyone pull results with him, but I still think that a Jeskai Delver deck with the reveler might be the best build for the current and coming metas, specially since Queller being the second best threat in my mind now will have to face also Fatal Push
Best of lucks to all Jeskai Delver players
I have been testing with YP and selfless spirit. So far it's been very good, its kept delver and YP alive more often than not.Myth has been so so,sometimes it's won me the game, can tick up if we don't play counters so our mana isn't wasted but sometimes seems underwhelming in other matches.I started using it after I was constantly being destroyed by anger of the gods.
I have followed the thread constantly but I feel my input is limited since I only have it in paper and live in a small town where only a few others have top decks.
Online seems to be where most play and the wife would kill me if I spent more than a few bucks a month online.
My online WUR is more budget and doesn't perform like my paper version where I have fetches, pains and flagstones making a much better mana base.
Delver flips still scare people, that says something.
Have you tried Boros Charm? Unlike selfless spirit, it helps flip delver and gives you more tokens with Young Pyromancer. If you run 4 of them, you can be really super aggresive playing almost like a burn deck but having the upside of being able to protect your treats
